One of the advantages of working in real estate is that you get to set your own hours. It's also one of the curses of the profession, because you are essentially "on call" all of the time.
So when a real estate broker takes a few days off, there is a price to be paid. Because the work tasks of the last few days were not eliminated, but instead, deferred until a later date!
Which means that the next day or two will be crammed with a lot of "catch-up" work, such as contacting clients, checking brochure boxes, following up on leads and finishing paperwork that was hastily set aside prior to my hiatus.
So I guess I had more of a "rescheduling period" than a true vacation, but I don't fret over semantics. I had a blast!

Richard, I know the feeling. I took most of the weekend off too and I am looking at today's to do list. Offtaz! Where do I begin. I guess I will start here...
Richard, Welcome back. I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that cloning is the only answer. But than again, I wonder, does the world really need two Richards? Rich
Indeed. I unplugged my telephone at 5:00 p.m. yesterday and took the rest of the day off. Now, I have 2 buyer messages to return calls.
I'm planning a few days off when the season is right for catching fish in Buggs Island Lake but business is so tough for our agents these days, I just may skip it for another year. It's not the work that piles up in my absense, it's the business we lose when I'm not here.
I'm still trying to figure out how to take some time without feeling guilty. I think Rich got it right...cloning!!
Richard, Everyone needs a mental health day (or week). I'm sure you'll catch up quickly.
GOOD MORNING RICHARD! Doesn't taking a break and coming back makes those "piled up tasks" seem less tedious because you had a "blast" of a break! Welcome back to Monday! -- Gabrielle
I second Barb. I'm slowing down to smell the roses. Lots to think about... Time is precious. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. :-)
Welcome back, I will look forward to some tales you have of adventures and things. Work will always be there, in one form or another. I have been told repeatedly, Real Estate is rarely life or death, and some things can wait til tomorrow. :)
Glad to hear you had a blast! I can" hear" a happier attitude in your words. Good for you!!! Welcome back..
My-o-My Richard we are up early this morning I pity the worm that you are going after. Glad you are back and hope that you are all rested.
Richard, I spent some time in my garden yesterday morning and it felt wonderful. Gotta recharge the batteries or you could go crazy. What is that plant in your picture form the zoo. It's gorgeous!!
That is right, get off of your hiatus!
Even though you took a little break there will always be more to do. Now you're back in the groove and it will all be done - and you'll feel even better for it. Glad you had a few days to recharge the soul.
I hate it when nobody does my work for me when I'm gone.
Excellent observation.
In the few years I've been in the biz, that has been a real negative. In order to take a vacation, you have to work like a dog the week before... preparing, making sure clients are happy, squeezing in all inspections, etc. Then, the week you get back you have to work like a dog to catch up on what you put off from the week before.
Taking time off in this biz comes at a cost.
Glad to know you had a good time!
Glad you had the time with the family. I'm certain they recharged your batteries. But, it's hard to get going again, I know. Start with the no-brainer stuff and work your way up!
Richard, glad you had a good time over the weekend. As the old saying goes, if you want to get busy, plan or go on vacation. Have a good week!
Richard - quality time off is worth the price of having to catch up. And the amazing thing is you will probably do all the catching up today, and still not miss a beat of new business.
I will bet you feel invigorated after a bit of fun. I assume pictures are soon coming.
I'm in the same predicament...
I telecommuted from South Carolina for a few days...
Now trying to catch up with all the paperwork and follow up.
Michael...
I try to start every day on AR. Thanks.
Rich...
Excellent point ... I think not! lol and thanks.
Lenn...
There is an extra layer of pressure when others depend and us. Thanks, as always, for the comment!
Laura G...
That may be the ultimate solution, but with my luck, the clone would want the time off! THX
Barb...
So far today, I am dragging ... but I'll get up to speed soon! Thanks for the comment.
Gabrielle...
Come to think of it, you're right about that! ;) and thanks.
Richard, Me Too!! I went to visit family in Chattanooga this week-end! Most Week-ends I do Open Houses and show property besides answering the phone!
Richard: Glad you enjoyed your much needed time off. You deserved it. I hope your transition back to work is an easy one.
We need the time to recharge. Next week my 12 year old grand son will be here and we will do lots of fun stuff with him it will be like a vacation. Glad you enjoyed your time off.
Brother Richard - Well I hope you had a great time! I had a day off this weekend, but as I pointed out in my blog, it wasn't intentional. Interesting note about that blog post - I didn't realize I had titled it the same as your post about your brother's arrival. I guess that's why I had the phrase in my head when I wrote it. Sorry about that!
Carolyn...
At some point, we must live life! Thanks sweetie!
Gail...
I'll pen all that I can remember ...THX!
Dorie...
Thanks, I really did have a good time!
Don...
I got some nice rest ...thanks for the support!
Susan...
Yellow Jessamine, sometimes called yellow Carolina Jasmine! ;)
Mel...
I know, I know, I know!
The important part is that you got to take a little time off, best of luck with catching up.
Hey Richard, you know the saying-
You play, you pay!!
Glad to see it doesn't throw you!
Richard - I need one (or two, or...) day off, soon. Even a couple hours would be nice. I can't remember when I did that last. And the work still piles up :). Welcome back ~Rita
