Here in Georgia, spring is upon us! The early flowers are blooming, and it's time to get all of the yard chores done in anticipation of a new growing season.
And although the calendar New Year officially starts on January 1, the practical New Year commences when you get out of the house and you get busy outdoors. Slowly, over the next two months the "secondary living space' will be pruned, fertilized and weeded in preparation for the warm season.
It's time for allergies to go into overdrive, and for the home improvement stores to bulge with frantic homeowners trying to make their estates the envy of the neighborhood.
There's a lot to do and only a short window of opportunity to get it done. It won't be long before the pleasantly warm days five way to the blasting heat of the southern summer.
Yeah, I need to get on that. Maybe Mañana!

I'm always so anxious when spring comes, the first warm day I'm out and usually overdoing it! I can't wait for the NJ planting season, flowers and Jersey Tomatoes, nothing better!
I am soooo jealous! No blossoms here yet. It will be another month before we see those pretty colors. Spring is the best, renewal, revilization. Get out there an enjoy. Have a super week.
I am so excited about this time of year. It's a feeling of regrowth! Love to see the buds on the trees and the bulbs poking out of the ground. I can't wait to start my garden. The problem is, I know winter is not completely done!
Richard, it's already spring in Georgia? It is raining here, a sure sign in Northern California of winter (our version...) and next week I'm going to Winnipeg, Canada and was told to bring my mittens... you are way ahead of the game.
I am thinking that I am ready for SPRING to get here in full force. Thanks for the reminder to start getting things ready. It is also a good reminder that we can now go back to work on our business or implement our aggressive business plan.
Have a wonderful day my friend.
Laura G...
Here in Newnan, the early spring flowers are in February, the azaleas and dogwoods in March, and I don't plant tender annuals until income tax day, April 15th! THX
Treva...
Thanks, and let's not mention the words "income tax!" lol
Cindy...
We have has snow in March on occasion, but that's rare here in Newnan. We also have years when the flowers start in January so it varies! Thanks for the comment!
I love spring and right now in Texas we are having some real warm weather, at least this week, yesterday it was 85 and today will be 87. Trees are blooming and its a grand time of the year to be out and about. Beautiful photo!
I love your photo.
Just a trivia tidbit: In the ancient Roman calendar the New Year did indeed begin on March 1. Julius Ceaser changed it to begin on January 1 in 47 BC.
I certainly would not object to changing it back to March 1. :-)
Well, we are still a tad cool for outdoor work and it doesn't get quite as hot here in the summer as there, so, I think I'll just tend to my seedlings in my sunroom window, thanks.
I am so ready for spring and warm temps. Love the photo of the trees!
I would so love to get out there and do what you propose but it will have to wait for at least another 6 weeks in good ole Cleveland Ohio, so I will just keep bloggin for a while. Thanks for the dream!
I can't wait!!!!
Joanne...
LOL that is why until last year we were the fastest growing county in Georgia! (sigh)
Don...
Oh yeah, between that and my income taxes it looks like I am going to be busy! Thanks, my friend.
Gail...
The Texas wildflowers are something I'd like to see one day! THX
Cheryl...
I love interesting trivia like that ... hmmm and I'm Italian so I guess I inherently realized that! lol and thanks.
Lenn...
I used to do the seed catalog thing and I had a complete indoor nursery with grow lights and everything but those days are gone ... I would like to try again one day! THX.
Wendy...
Thanks, they are Bradford Pears, quite popular in our area for their early blooms and good fall color. Thanks!
Richard, I have been thinking about this for a little while now. Lots to do with little time to do it. Such is life!
Spring is a new beginning! After the long cold cruel winter, spring burst forth to start new life. Luv it!

Enjoy your moments.....you're right the heat will be here soon enough. Now's the time to enjoy.
I'm from North Georgia...your pictures made me homesick! I'm jealous...while you are enjoying spring weather, we are preparing for another snowstorm. Oh well...our spring should arrive in June. :) Enjoy your yardwork!
What a beautiful photo, Richard! We are seeing lots of buds on the trees and shrubs, some little knots just below the surface on the Cannas, and the heather is pinking back up. Spring is truly on its way. And my allergies and sinus problems are in full force - so I'm absolutely certain that the 'green' season is nigh.
It is sign of spring when the weeds start popping up. If my weeds were marijuana I would have a very profitable home business.
Barb...
Yeah but Cleveland rocks! lol
Susan...
Nor can I! ;)
Tony...
"To everything ... there is a season!" lol
Every area has it notice of spring here we think 40 degrees and rain signals the arrival. Maybe next week.
Richard; Speaking of allergies, did you know that a good way to try to conquer them naturally is to eat local honey. Gets your body used to the local pollin. Just a fun fact for you as we prepare for Spring. :)
Pat...
And spring will find its way to New Hampshire ...eventually! ;)
Larry...
Summer is when we pay the price for our mild winters in GA! Thanks for the reminder.
Barbara...
Funny you should say that ... when I saw your photo my first thought was that you didn't look like a native New Englander to me!
Compost is all ready and new potting soil is in the shed. I am so ready. Never did get around to planting all my new bulbs for bloom so I guess its off to my local garden shop.
Brother Richard - I just pointed out to my wife last night how many of our trees have buds on them already. The big tree on our deck should be fully ready in about a month's time. Just in time to shade us from the summer sun.
I am jealous. Spring dos not begin in NH until May.
Well I think I will set back, wait for our next snow and think about shoveling before i think about doing spring cleanup.
Richard I agree that Spring is almost upon us. I need to get out and put out some weed killer and activator on my lawn. The little bursts of warmer weather is already making a few weeds pop through.
It's nice to see the flowers peeking out again, and I will be glad to get back in the yard to take care of things.
Spring what is that....I for one do not mind giving up the seasons in exchange for never dealing with snow and ice!!
Happy Thursday from Sunny FLA....
Lori
Richard, Spring only comes once a year... so why mess it up with chores? I noticed the trees here in Florida are putting on new green as well.. Enjoy!
Hey Richard, funny to see spring and then a few days later the funny white stuff! :) Have a great March!!
