This is not going to be a long diatribe, I'll keep it short and sweet:
You can't move forward if you keep looking back.
You can't undo mistakes of the past, you can only accept them, learn from them and move forward. There is no "Back to the Future" ability to go back, change your actions, and alter the future forever.
Never let the "What might have been" affect the "What is," because while resolution may be important to you, it may be hurtful or troublesome to those that care for you now.
Life is a chronological series of events, not a mismatched set of dishes that can be changed or replaced at will. The picture we paint of the past is often brighter than the reality.
We CAN however, successfully manipulate the present! Your future is yours to define by taking control of the here and now, but only if you can let go of what already has past.

Richard - Ain't that the truth! I just had lunch with a friend, and I said something along those lines while we were talking.
Great points. A positive outlook goes a long way in developing a successful business.
Richard, it's a sad fact that most either focus upon what might have been or what they hope--or sometimes dread--may come to pass. Understanding how to place your energy in the here and now is a lesson that many never master.
Jason...
We are kindred spirits, after all is said and done! Have a great weekend, my friend!
Simon...
On some days, that's ALL we have! Thank you kindly.
John...
I think that it is a very hard lesson to learn sometimes! Thanks for the comment.
It is also helpful to remember that even if you are on the right track, you'll still get hit by the train if you don't keep moving! I forget who said that, but it is a truism I could do with memorizing and repeating everyday!
Richard: I think I know some folks with that "mismatched set of dishes" outlook. It's very frustrating. Ever forward.
Richard...time to forge ahead...don't let the past mistakes rule the future.
Haven't perfected the prototype for the 'flux capacitor' yet? It makes me this of this song.
Richard,
Woulda, coulda, shoulda. We all have a past, we don't all learn from it though.
Rich
Is it me, or does Active Rain seem like an awfully musical group to everyone else too?
Susan, I resemble that remark!
Richard,
There is an awful lot of truth in your post. We need to let go of the past and move on and chart the course to becoming a winner....
That's right Richard. No use beating yourself up over what could have been. I also tell myself and my daughter you learn from your mistakes.
If you haven't read "The Power of Now" I highly recommend it. It's pretty much what you said. You only have control of the present.
Richard, another truism with the not looking back thought, is we live life going forward but understand it looking back. Looking back is helpful if only to comprehend the message of the lessons.
Very well said, my friend. A timely post, indeed...
Richard,
You can't watch the road ahead if you keep looking in the rearview mirror. :)
Steve
There are a lot of people that believe that holding on is the hard part, but it's letting go that's the real challenge.
Susan...
Could that have been someone we both know? Thanks, my friend.
Chris Ann...
Yes, I keep telling myself that very thing every day!
Bil...
Ever onward we go! ;)
Mel...
Wow, I didn't think that Garth was around long enough to be on vinyl. Wow, it makes you think.
Rich...
Sometimes we rehash it too much! THX
Susan...
We are very music minded indeed! ;)
Yep, it makes me feel pretty old just knowing what vinyl is.
Well thats a mighty interesting post to be posting on Valentine's day...hmmm...Yep I just read the Power of Now too......velly interesting...
The past can be a hard thing to just let go. But life is so much better once it's done!
I know that's right!
So many things we could of done different, but we can only learn from what we did (or did not do) and work to improve.
Happy Valentine's Day....Great post and great points!!! I agree with you 100%...
Hi Richard, I remind myself of this almost everyday. I am the kind of person that is influenced by what has happened in the past, in my present life. I am working hard on understanding and rectifying it. Thanks for posting.
Richard, great post. I learned this lesson from a depression I suffered some twenty years ago. You can't kick yourself for the past. Learn from your mistakes..whether they were intentional or unintentional. Work toward your best and act....
I try and not worry about yesterday. I make mistakes every day so what. That was yesterday and I can fix them today!
Great post, Richard. I missed this one before. Just keep on looking forward....as I get older, I realize I don't even remember parts of the past LOL!!! So that makes it easier :-)
