President Obama's inaugural address left ME speechless. What a magnificent orator, and what a great presidential presence. I was inspired almost to tears.
This was the most inspiring political speech I have ever heard since John F. Kennedy's "ask not what your country can do for you" 1961 inaugural offering.
I did not support the President during the election. But as of noon today, the 44th President of the United States has earned my full confidence and respect and I wish him all the best. God bless America!

Richard, you know I supported Hillary during the primaries, but wholeheartedly support President Obama from then on. He fills me with great hope and courage to face what comes. xxoo
Richard, I understand the moved to tears part for sure----and, as soon as Aretha started to sing I totally lost it.
Richard...Although I support the new President, I still don't have the confidence in him. To many changes rom what he said during the campaign. BUT, after hearing all the info that President Bush had, Obama may be changing his tune with that new info...I am still holding out hope!
I was literally moved to tears. I believe we can all fly TOGETHER. I am proud to say that a Hawaii born is 44th President...and believe in change.
I thought it was the best speech I have ever heard in my life from an American politician.
Thank goodness we have a democracy and a fairly good system. And the elected are only in for four years.
Whether anyone likes it or not, he is our president now. He at the very least deserves a chance to show that he can lead this nation.
Susan...
You may not know, but I neither Republican or Democrat ... but once the President is sword in ... he's the man.
Charles...
It was an all-star performance.
I, too, thought it was a terrific speech. Inspiration is part of what we need. We had better all be praying that he is up to the challenges he faces.
I also thought it was an amazing speech. He is an amazing speaker. ~Rita
Amazing indeed! I too was moved to tears, I don't consider myself a Republican nor Democrat, but an American and today was a proud day for all Americans.
I am optimistic...Congress will be Obama's biggest obstacle!
He is an incredibly gifted orator. One of the few politicians that I am actually interested in hearing what he has to say. I wish him the best - he's got an incredibly difficult job ahead.
Hi Richard. I missed the speech.
Hopefully I will see a replay.
Thanks for writing,
Ken
I recorded it because I was working. Thanks for giving away the ending!
Richard: I missed the speech due to a Realtor training session on our new lockboxes (great timing, right?) I'll have to check it out. My husband is not one to really get inspired by a speech, but even he was giving Obama praises for it.
Bill...
I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but I will still hold him accountable!
Sally...
It was a momentous day in history!
Shane...
Hard to argue with that!
Wendy...
If "style points" matter for anything, I'll give the President 10 out of 10!
JL...
I think that he deserves that after a hard fought and successful campaign!
Leslie...
There are many challenges ahead!
Rita...
He certainly is charismatic...that's for sure!
Missy...
It was quite a sight ... and history in the making!
Gary...
As well it should be ... the separation of powers is a great system of checks and balances! Thx.
Richard,
I too think that we need to support the new President and along with that goeshim and the rest of the people in Congress sohowing some accountability to those that they represent.
Here is to a good four years
Richard,
I didn't support Obama during the election, but I also wasn't devastated by his victory. Today was an inspiring landmark in US history and I think he will have his hands full, but is up to the task. We, as Americans, owe it to him and to ourselves to support him and wish him well. So in the words of Jimmy Buffett, "breathe in, breathe out, move on"
Hi Richard,
I see that good change is in the air. It's a pleasure to see people are starting to see he will make a difference. If we all band together, the country will change in a positive and delightful direction!!
I loved his comment "It's time to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off!" It's priceless....
;>)
Richard, I was amazed, inspired and hopeful.
Bo
Stacey-Ann...
He's going to need a lot of help. and a lot of support!
Ken...
To to watch it .. it's very inspiring!
Mel...
Oops ...sorry!
Chris Ann...
Iy had me glued to the monitor! It was that good.
Don...
I am looking forward to it with great anticipation!
Lynn...
Also in the words of Jimmy Buffet: "I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potato!"
Hi Richard, Interesting commenting! I missed the "live" version, and have been trying to catch up tonight. I was working all day, and we had a busy day.... I am hopeful that there will be change - choose hope over fear, I believe is what he said.....onward we go!
What a change from the former presidents presentations. I have been impressed from his first speech in Springfield announcing his candidacy for president.
Richard, I agree that President Obama is a gifted orator. Like you, I found myself remembering President Kennedy during the inauguration today. (okay, I watched the recordings later when I finished working) But I am feeling inspired by our new president and the energy he created amongst the people. There is hope.
Richard, I got goosebumps watching that speech. He is inspiring me like no one since Bobby. I just pray that he will lead us out of this dark valley. I loved the "responsibility" tack he took. And if we can just keep the energy up, it should be interesting. I watched with interest the commericals that we on as well. Man, the "special interests" took it on!!!!!
Here! Here! Richard! No matter who one supported, we should all put our weight behind the new president and help him do all that he's promised us he'll do, with our help.
Debi
Richard, what a nice post. I too supported someone else during the election but I am so 100% behind our new president! Often perception is everything. In that vein, I believe that just the positive reaction from MOST of the country and their belief that he's going to turn things around will spread hope instead of apathy and hopefully jumpstart some of the economy. I will pray for him as I have prayed for all of our presidents and our country.
Richard - I believe we're all on the same page with our new President. And I think it's because we, as a group, enjoy helping and truly want to see everyone win....not just ourselves. We're the good guys. It's such a treat to be free to hope again. As always - thanks for your blog. Ralph
Richard... I wish I could be so optimistic. He's a good orator, but we need substance... and on that I fear he's a little light. I hope and pray for wisdom for him and the rest of the folks on the Hill. Heaven knows they all could use an extra dose right about now.
It's interesting how many people say they were moved to tears. I am never moved to tears by a politician. After all, they are trying to appeal to our emotions. After I see what they do in office, then I will judge what they have done.
Richard, I hope you don't mind if I comment to the anonymous commenter. People were moved to tears by the historical significance of having a young black man take the oath of office. People were moved to tears by the hopefulness this man brings, a hopefulness not seen since the Kennedy administration. People weren't moved to tears because he is a politician. He appears to be a good man who has a tough job a head of him. He is a young man, with a young family, and people are proud to say that in this country, at this time, we are putting prejudice behind us, and looking forward with hope.
Susan...
I couldn't agree more. Although I have a different political point of view that the president, the fact that this man rose from humble beginnings, and against all odds, and beat one the strongest political machines (the Clintons) in recent history is almost beyond belief.
I remember the fire hoses and dogs turned on Civil Rights protestors, and I could not believe that someone could be so cruel to someone just because of the color of their skin. It was horrible, and a sad chapter in our history.
I never thought that I would live to see this ... it's history, and it's a healing. Anything is possible if you dare dream and work hard! Wow, how could you NOT be moved by that?
