The word "obstacle" is peculiar. Although we use it often, we don't put a lot of thinking into the true meaning of the word.
For an obstacle is not a prohibition, it is only a deterrent. It is not a dead-end, it is a challenge. Because obstacles can be overcome with perseverance and determination, they are more of a hindrance than a point of termination.
Although we are faced with more obstacles every day in this difficult market, there are none that cannot be overcome by sheer will and the strength to keep moving forward.
We won't know what lies on the other side of the mountain until we get there. Who knows, it might be more obstacles? Then again, it just might be the Promised Land!

If you can face your fears at least you'll know if you can cope with them. If not then at least you tried to probe and move to the next thing.....just continue to go with the flow.
While the word "obstacle" is not high in my lexicon, the word "barrier" surely is; as in "barrier to sale".
I look at a lot of home and I often wonder if listing agents advise sellers about "barriers to sale", beginning with the listing informaiton in the MLS.
You just have to have some fun in this business.
Hi Richard:
Good morning. Nice inspirational post.
I just started a new group, Motivational Monday...this would be perfect for that.
Obstacles/deterrents/challenges - they cause us to think creatively and sharpen our problem solving skills. They can be a great thing if we embrace them with the right attitude and see them as an opportunity to learn (or win!)
Richard,
Some obstacles are mental, some are physical. In any case, I love the sense of satisfaction I get when I overcome an obstacle, even if there's another one on the other side.
Richard

Neal...
Good point. Fact is, many in the profession were not up to the challenge, I guess that's better for the survivors.
Lenn...
The whole time I was writing this, there was a word that I was trying to pull out of my brain, and that word was "barrier." Thanks for the head jostling!
Toula...
Sounds like a great group ... I'll look into it, but I am not going to try to move anything until all the AR issues are resolved! Hopefully that will be very soon!
Susan..
They build character, that's for sure! Thanks, as always, for the comment!
Rich...
I don't think we ever get to the end until we get to the end! lol
That is what makes life exciting, discovery. What makes us strong are challenges. What makes us smile, rewards for our work. The other side, no matter what it brings is what makes life interesting.
Richard, the other thing about finding out what's on the other side of the mountain is you are moving forward and not paralyzed in one spot.
Elayna...
Thanks, sometimes we need a little determination, don't we?
Connie ...
That was so well-stated that I'll let it stand on its own merit!
Gary...
I agree. I think most bad things happen when you attempted to stay in the same place.
Obstacles is what makes us grow in wisdom. Learning how to clime the mountain is half the fun. I find the bigger the barrier, the more creative I become.
I'm betting that there is a pot of gold on the other side of the market! BBBBOOOOOOYYYYAAAAA!
I think that on the other side of the mountain, there is another mountain. But, after we run over or through that one, I think we're good to go.
Richard - What an incredible picture. I love the scenery... it is breathtaking.
"What should we do?" someone once asked Lee Iacocca, "Anything, Everything, the WRONG thing, just do SOMETHING!" Yep - I agree we have to keep moving!
The only barrier (as Lenn calls it) is the mindset (our thinking) that prevents us from doing something. Fear, fear of failure, motivation, determination and the like. Bottom line... Stagnant is not good....growth is. And we have learning lessons each and every day with every situation and circumstance.
Okay...coffee kicked in again....wonderfully positively inspirational Richard!
Richard: When I think of the word obstacle, I immediately couple it with the word overcome. To me, an obstacle has never been a point of giving up. I guess that means I truly am an optimist.
Mel...
Creativity is the key, that's for certain!
Caren...
It has to be SOMEWHERE, doesn't it?
JL...
That sound hopeful to me, but me likey!
Climb the mountain, blow the damn thing up, but never allow it to stop you in your tracks.
Great pics as usual Richard.
obstacles are the one thing that makes up what we are. It also makes up thank the Lord for what we have!
Our obstacles are what we make them and what we allow them to be. They help us to grow as individuals...we would never find anything new if it weren't for a bump in the road!
Richard - Nice post. Thank you. One part of me wants the market to be crazy busy again to the point of having NO TIME for blogging, another part of me is happy we have some down time right now to read stuff like this. Laraine
Sal...
Thanks ... the mountain with the touch of snow is Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia!
Eleanor...
That's great advice, and Chrysler could use a guy like him right NOW!
Sally...
Thanks, I like an occasional kick in the pants post!
Sometimes we know what is on the other side of the mountain and that's why we don't go. In almost all cases what we think will be difficult is easier that we imagined and wish we had started the journey sooner. Thanks for the post.
The funny thing is we would never appreciate the tranquil waters without facing a storm now and again, would we? Adversity won't kill us... it just separates those who have the drive from those who do not.
Mindset sure makes a big difference, life does present many challenging but our approach determines how we get through them.
Richard,
This is excellent. Very well expressed. I'm going to reblog it. :)
Steve
Richard....a mountain indeed! I can hardly wait to see the other side...and I hope it's a change in the market...if that's the mountain we are climbing!
I've been searching all day for something positive....and I hope the market blesses us all next year.
This is a great post! Doesn't make any sence to me to look behind me especially when I don't know what lies ahead. I loved the reminder!
