Christmas is just around the corner, and the year is quickly drawing to an end. It has been an interesting and dynamic time in history, that's for sure.
We have seen many dramatic events over the past eleven and a half months, including the demise of many formerly powerful lending institutions, the escalation of gasoline prices to nearly five dollars a gallon, and an historical election of epic proportions.
But as I sit in my home, snug as a bug, and preparing for the holidays ahead, the outside world melts away, and I allow my safe enclosure to envelope me. There is a calm peace that prevails as it insulates me from all of the trouble and tribulations of what lies beyond my four walls.
So it's a hot cup of coffee for me, and a cat on my lap, and I'll just listen to some Christmas music and relax. Relax...now that's a word that I have not heard in a very, very long time!

Hi Richard:
Same here...but my cat shares a chair with me!
Have a Happy Holiday,
Sometimes it is good to sit back and relax and be thankful for what we have!
I do it daily!
Merry Christmas!
your friend in Charlottesville
Good news Richard. We all live in a fantasy world of our own making. One of the few lasting memories from all of those courses in psychology is the existence of our many "other worlds".
I decided not to do much for the Christmas holiday this year. No tree, no outdoor decorations for me...I'm single and just don't want to hassle with it all.
Does that make me a Grinch?
NO - I'll enjoy my holiday visiting with family and friends and admire their holiday decorations.
Richard, this is the time of the year to kick back and enjoy the Holiday Season. Before we know it the year will be over and it will be time to get down to business again. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Good Morning Richard, I guess I need a cat, lol, mornings are quiet here and warm and cosy and enjoyable on lingering Saturdays. We need that insulation from reality just to restore our batteries, its a recharge zone.
Hi richard: great reminder about the "R" word. Sometimes I think our society, and particularly people in our business think "relaxation" is a negative four-letter word. It is essential, like air and water.
Richard, Nice picture you paint with your words. I do believe its more likely a laptop on your lap though with your faithful cat cuddled at your feet.
What a delight to read! I can just envision the scene...sounds alot like the one I have at home too!
Toula...
Thanks, I will. And the same to you! I really appreciate the comment!
Charles...
I should do it lately, but the pressures of the world are closing in around me! I'll just pop "A Christmas Story" in the DVD and all will remain well! Thanks for jumping in!
Lenn...
Oh, so you're saying I'm NOT crazy then! lol Now, that is comforting! Have a great weekend!
I'm with Marjorie!!!! But as far as the cat I have a dog right next to me and I think that I could use some hot chocolate with a big marshmallow.
Richard~All I want for Christmas is the ability to be able to relax. Do they have classes on that somewhere? All kidding aside, this year has been quite crazy and the holidays are typically more maddening...but I have promised myself a day of relaxation very soon! Ritz Carlton spa day here I come!
Marjorie...
I have a post already written along those lines that I will be posting a day or two before Christmas, so stay tuned! ;) Have a great time with your family!
Michael...
I'm trying, goodness knows that I'm trying! Merry Christmas, my friend.
Gail...
And I NEED recharging! My batteries are drained! Have a great weekend!
Janice...
And I am feeling the drain from lack of relaxation! I also feel that I need to be "rebooted!" lol Thanks for the nice comment!
Rich...
Thanks. My cat LeMieux likes to let me "warm" my lap with the computer, and then makes me move it to the side so that she can settle down for the night! And when she gets settled, she won't budge! Have a great weekend!
Kristin...
It makes me want to go home and ...wait a minute. .. I AM at home! lol and thanks.
Its a great thing to have a warm safe home when so many others dont. I take time to relax and enjoy it as well. My cat well she wants outside.
Hi Richard,
For me there is no need to go back...the past is the past and no matter what...there isn't much we can do about it...we are all stressed out so I just try to put it aside and I'm going to enjoy some quality time when I can
Richard...for people like us, relaxing is a very rare thing, and when we have time, we don't always know how!
Richard,
Relax and enjoy the season, spring is just around the corner and the economy will change!
Your post has put me in the mood for a little relaxation. My dogs will keep me nice and warm.
Hi Richard,
Great post - I think about this too.
We have three little babies and a little puppy - our tree is up, Christmas is right around the corner - life is good. :)
It has been a very interesting year, and I'm sure there's more to follow...enjoy your mini vacation! Just think...your cat enjoys this every day! Ah to be a well cared for kitty, now that's a great fantasy!
Don...
Well, there's certainly nothing wrong with having a dog there with you! As a matter of fact, that sounds very nice. Have a great weekend, my friend!
LaShawn...
It is HARD to relax. I'm sitting here trying to keep up with my comments and the groups aren't working right and ... I need to get back to that relaxation idea!
Laura J...
Yes, we need to be thankful for what we have, we are very fortunate indeed! Thanks, my friend!
Neal...
I need to do that a little more often! That would be very helpful and good for my health too! Thanks.
Bill...
I truly think I forgot how to relax, because if I am idle, I feel guilty! That's something I need to work on.
Mary...
I hope that you are right! These low interest rates seem to be having an effect on business!
Mel...
You have dogs? lol I think that you mention that in every post! And YOU can't relax today! Get out there and get that shopping done!
Mark...
It sounds great ... three little ones and a puppy! What could be better at Christmas?
Laura G...
You took the words right out of my mouth! I would LOVE to be a spoiled cat! lol
I like to relax by feeding the birds and watching them! It is so calming! My Springer Spaniel likes to watch them too!
Merry Christmas and cheers!
I am so jealous of my two newphews who still believe in the easter bunny, santa claus and that we are not in a bad recession
I'm still trying to get over the fact that this year is pretty much over with. I just don't know where time goes any more. But, next year will be here soon, and that demands our attention. So, throw that cat down and get to work.
Savor the moment my friend.
Have a great weekend.
Bo
RW - That sounds nice. I think I will do that also. Turn on my tree, flip on the music and hang out w/the pups. I usually have a sweet, sweet baby puppy (1 year) in my lap while typing away on the keyboard. They are so funny aren't they? They always have to be touching you somehow even if it's just a foot, or paw, whatever. Have a spectacular day. KM
Hi Richard. Good for you!
You deserve it. Relax and enjoy the day.
Ken
Richard: Sounds like a perfect holiday evening. I helped a friend decorate her tree last night. Evidently, it's a tradition for her to invite some friends over, serve some goodies and let everyone have at the tree. First time for me, but I fit right in. Hope it's the start of a holiday tradition.
Richard, it is nice you are enjoying the simple things.
Caren...
I have feeders by the window for the kitties to watch "television!" The occasional squirrel drives them crazy! Have a great weekend!
James...
That's pretty funny! ...lol...Happy holidays!
JL...
I know it, when you're right, you're right!
Bo...
I will, thanks and have a great weekend!
Kristin...
Pets make excellent company! BTW, I just got my calendar TODAY. Thanks for thinking about me, that was very nice of you! It's on my refrigerator now!
I will say we have always teased my mom about living in her own world....she watched The Walton's and Little House on the Prairie constantly. Now that I'm older I get it and I love fantasy land! Have a beautiful relaxing day!
I'm with you....I AM in my own fantasy world. Guess how many fairies I have?
Richard,
Sounds like a great way to spend the day...
Ann
Ken...
So far, so bad. A lot of stuff has come up!
Chris Ann...
Now that sounds like a great idea! And you don't have to all sit around and try to figure what to do!
Gary...
I am trying my best!
Mandi...
Thanks my Show Low friend! Don't be such a stranger!
Sally...
The more I get to know you, the better I like you! ;)
Ann...
I'm trying, I'm trying!
I won't! :)
Great time to reflect on the past and prepare for the future. Have a great holiday.
Mandi...
Excellent!
Terry...
Thanks for the well-wishes, and the same to you and your family!
Richard - Im a new subscriber to your post. So far, I like it. (not that you need my approval). Happy Holidays and I think its great that you are going to relax. In TX its cold and windy. Great time to have a fire, some coffee, and relax as well.
Glad you're relaxing Dear Richard! I worked today, so relaxing tonight sounds great!
Richard, sounds like a plan to me. Nothing better than a cat in your lap and warm home. I always enjoy reading your posts. Thank you.
Hi John...
Thanks for subscribing, I'll try not to let you down! Have a great Sunday and I look forward to getting to know you better!
April...
You worked on all that snow? Can you sell anything in that kind of cold?
Kathy K...
And I'm glad that you do. I really appreciate the support!
While you were relaxing, I was taking my daughter on her first Christmas shopping experience... she looked adorable... we bought a lot of fun stuff... and it snowed!! Perfect! Hope you enjoyed your day, I sure enjoyed mine!! ~A:)
Alisha...
How fun! Now, as I recall, there is very little time for relaxing at Christmas time when you have kids! But that's a big part of the magic!
Richard you make an excellent point in that we need to take time and "relax". A rested heart and mind do wonders for the soul.
Richard - my cat is sitting on my lap right now... and she is warm :). It's only 2 degrees outside. Still some work to do but hoping to relax some soon, it's much needed. ~Rita
Eric...
Indeed they do! THX
Rita...
That's cold, but not as cold as "home," is it?
