Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

What are you waiting for? Stop making excuses and start looking for reasons!

Great Smoky Mountains National Park fall foliageThere is a difference between an excuse and a reason. Sometime there are genuine reasons why we remain unfulfilled and yearning for something more out of life. After all, we must survive, and we have obligations that require our undivided attention.

But an excuse is different. An excuse is a rationalization that is not based upon factual realities. It is easy to justify our laziness or indifference with excuses, and at times, the dissimilarity between the two may become blurred.

One of the most common excuses is fear of change. It's easy to fear the unknown, but often the reasons in favor of change are powerful and overwhelming. In many cases, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

So it's time to stop making irrational decisions based on excuses and to reasonably weigh our options for moving forward. It's the sensible way to grow!

I couldn't have said it better myself - WE HAVE TO SURVIVE!!!

Richard, Fear is a powerful motivator. Some people fear failure and others actually fear success. Change can be intimidating. If you don't grasp it and act on it though, its coming anyway.

Richard,

Ah yes, excuses. Love the one where the guy asks his neighbor to borrow the lawnmover and is told be the would-be lender "no" - that he has to change his oil. When asked what that had to do with the lawnmower - "nothing, but if I don't want to lend it to you, one excuse is as good as another." :)

Thanks Richard for the reminder.  Sometimes making changes and moving on requires a leap of faith but it can be quite the freeing experience.  When I'm pondering something, I often think to myself, what is the worst that could happen? Then I realize no one is going to take my life away for it, so I go for it!

I took the CSP course yesterday and I got reminded of the reasons why people (lots of them) get motivated. Need, Greed and fear of loss.

I agree with you, their is always an excuse why NOT to do. . . . .

Ah yes, that's it! "What's the worst that can happen?" Very good!

Richard - but if I give up my excuses I won't have any reasons at all!

The post reminds me of a quote by Elbert Hubbard, "The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one."  Good post Richard!

Commenting on your post is giving me an excuse.  Just yanking your chain.

My first boss at my first 'real' job had been a Navy Seal.  Excuses never worked with him.  He was an awesome influence.

Richard, when did you implant that device in my brain?  Gosh, I have only one real issue where I keep making excuses.  I don't have a fear of failure since it is a constant companion and I love leaping off the diving board.  But this one boondoggle keeps hounding me.  Okay.  You've pointed it out, I'll really start working on it.  No more excuses.  Thanks.

As always, great way to start the day!

Good Morning Richard-I have two books in my vast library that I do my best to live by. the first one is "No Excuse" by jay Rifenbary and the second is "Feel the Fear and do it Anyway" ny susan Jeffers. Does that tell you anything about this somewhat humorous friend of yours besides her love of entertainment. Have a great day and thanks for visiting my post. :-)

Richard:  This post should be hitting home with a lot of people.  Unfortunately, the people it should be hitting home with are the ones that are not doing ANYTHING (including blogging) to move their business forward.  They are happy to use current market conditions as an excuse for their lack of business.  We all go through rough times, but the ones that succeed are the ones that aren't afraid of working, and trying new things.

I love the part where you said there is "nothing to lose and everything to gain". Those words could not be more true. How do you know if you don't try. I never thought I would have a blog... and yet here I am... blogging away!

Excuses are a way for many to justify their lack of Effort to do work that's necessary to succeed.

Yeah, what Cameron said. You can find an excuse with little effort if it's what you want to do, but it will never get you where you need to be.

Chris Ann...

That is an excellent point that is probably true! I hadn't really looked at it that way!

Anita...

Once again, that is something that I should have considered from the git-go!

Cameron...

That is exactly correct!

It seams fear and procrastination go hand in hand.  The slower we are the harder it is to get motivated!

Perhaps overused but nonetheless truthful: FEAR False Evidence Appearing Real - if someone lied to us and we knew it we would not go through the actions the same as we would if we knew it were true. Why react to plain fear without reason?

Everyone has a certain fear factor going on.....but a gift to pick out healthy and unhealthy. Change can be a good thing...gotta get over the fear and try something new in order to find out if it's a workable solution. Take a chance...a risk....and find out....for if not for trying..one will never know :)
