The Georgia Aquarium is one of the most popular destinations in Atlanta Georgia. It is located just north of Centennial Olympic Park in downtown. Atlanta experienced a makeover for the 1996 Olympic Games, and since that time has evolved into one of the premiere destinations for both tourists and suburbanites eager to experience the amenities of the metropolis.
The aquarium itself contains one of the largest collections of aquatic species in the world, from the tiniest crustaceans to beluga whales and everything in between. The aquarium is divided into different environments, Coldwater Quest, Georgia Explorer, Ocean Voyager, River Scout and Tropical Diver, each with its own unique ecosystem.
There are plenty on hands-on exhibits, including petting pools and even an indoor playground for the kids. There are also touring exhibits, currently a collection of artifacts recovered from the wreck of the Titanic. Whether you want to or not, you will learn something new on every visit to this marvelous facility.

I have been to the aquarium on multiple times and I absolutely love it! The biggest in the US and definitely the best!
Richard, Great localism post. I've never been to the Aquarium in Atlanta but have been to the National Aquarium in Baltimore many times. The diversity of sealife is amazing. I get lost in time there and spend hours.
I love aquariums Richard. The last great one I went to was a multi story one in New Orleans. The one in Baltimore and the one in Monterrey are supposed to be spectacular.
Hi Richard. Awesome Localism post. Beautiful pictures, too!
Ken
Gorgeous pix! We left Atlanta before the Aquarium was finished, I think...have been to the one in Baltimore several times as well as the one in Monterey. The Atlanta Aquarium sounds simply spectacular! Of course, the one in Monterey is, well, in Monterey, which is heaven on earth. ;-)
Beautiful localism post! Makes me want to go back to Atlanta. Haven't been there since 1992 so pre-Olympic makeover. I really should get back. I always loved the south, and still consider myself a "Georgia Peach!" ~A:)
I love the photo of the jellies! This looks like a great place to visit.
Richard I- I have visited both aquariums and I must ad mit, I loved baltimore, but Atlanta is way better.
Jeremy, It must be an awesome aquarium if its better than the one in Baltimore.
I have heard about this, will make a trip sometime.
Jer...
There is one in Gatlinburg TN that I like too! Thanks for the comment.
Rich...
I will have to go to Baltimore and see this one for myself, as there are lots of comments about it!
Gary...
I will put all of those on my list of places to see!
Ken...
Thanks, as you might imagine I have a ton more!
Richard - I love aquariums too. I haven't been in this one, but now that I know about so when I am in Atlanta next time, I will make a point to visit. ~Rita
Hi Richard... Your pictures are consistently GREAT and I love this post especially because I find fish and sea life amazing. We have a really nice aqaurium in Dallas, but I haven't been in years... I think it's time for a visit! :)
Richard very nice post. I agree with the others, this a great idea for localism.
Richard, it sounds like one of those places you need to visit several times just to see all the regular exhibits! As always great pictures! Thanks!
Richard,
This sounds like a fun place to visit. Was it there in 1996 or has it been constructed since the Olympics?
I have been wanting to take the kids there. We have a nice display in Charleston as well that we have been too. But this looks better.
Ive never been to that one Richard. My wife share a few funny stories about this aquarium and how they asked the city to help pay for building and they said, no, it is a dumb idea...the place has already paid for itself in the first 2 years!
Im jealous that we dont have anything like that here! Thanks for sharing!!!
We have a few large aquariums in our state that I have been to. Always fun. Since I used to sell fish and other pets, I always enjoy looking in these large diplays. I will have to check it out closer!
Richard - I love the photo of the jelly fish! I enjoy visiting aquariums. We have a small one north of Brookings I have visited and it was neat beacuse there was a lot of hands on things for children. They had little tide pools that you could touch urchins and small fish. Nice localism post!
I love aquariams. Each visit is different from the one before. As usual, I love your photos. I actually look forward to your photos each day.

Alisha...
Well you need to come back to visit! ;)
Leslie...
It IS a great place to visit!
Richard - What an absolutely gorgeous picture of the jellyfish. Nature is grand, God really created some beautiful things!
Your visit must have been fun!
I love a good aquarium, and this one certainly looks like it will fit the bill. I can never take good pictures of the jellyfish at anyone that I have been to.
I love going to places like this! You have inspired me, again.
Richard,
Great localism post and fantastic pics as always. I am embarrassed to say that I haven't been to the aquarium yet.
For all of you folks out there that haven't been to Atlanta in the last 10 years or so you need to come visit. The renaissance of downtown since the Olympics has been astounding.
