Why it's always a good thing to try to constantly strive to improve our work.

Blue Ridge Parkway autumn leaf colorOver the course of our lifetimes, we meet a lot of people and travel to many different places. Some are incidental, and some make lasting impressions.

Every autumn, I take photos of the fantastic fall color! I travel to various locations, And there are certain spots that have a particular kind of attraction to me. These are the places where I have taken great photos in the past, and I always return with the intension of "topping" the previous shot.

Even though many of these spots are just a bend in the many miles of roads or paths, I remember exactly where the shot occurred, and try to duplicate the yearly color event.

The photograph in this article was taken this year, at one of those special places along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I love the special species of trees and the reds, oranges and yellows that occur there. It's a nice photo!

But it's not as good as some of the previous years! As a matter of fact, it's not in the top five for this particular location! But I will go back next year and try again.

The lesson is this: It's always a good thing to try to constantly strive to improve our work. Sometimes we will be successful, and sometimes we will not. The important thing is to keep plugging away until we get the results we want!

And never be satisfied! Keep the drive alive!

I agree with you.  If we do not strive to improve ourselves we will be stuck.  That is not an option in our business.

Agreed - personal development should never stop.  There is always something new to learn.

Satisfaction is the killer of success. The second that you are content with your business, you no longer attempt to improve it.

Richard:  I like your drive and determination.  And it's nice to see a consistent positive attitude out of you these days.  We all have been going through our downs here, but messages like these keep us headed in the right direction.

You're are right...strive to do better.  But always remember to keep in touch with where you've been!  Thanks Richard!

When we become satisfied with our work, we become complacent.  That's when the real problems occur.

Richard, it exactly how we learn and grow. I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Richard - I have heard that best is the enemy of better. If we are always trying to be better, we can both reach our goals and have accomplishments. If we wait for perfection (best), we might never get there. Photographs, like the game of golf, are just reflections of how we are at the present, how we measure our performance.

Richard,  Continuous learning is what keeps us young.  I'm thinking of getting Rosetta Stone and learning a new language.  I was always disappointed that I was the first generation in my family that couldn't speak Italian.  Of course, over the years I did pick up on the juicy words.

Mandi...

You're welcome. I try really hard to make my posts interesting!

Richard...

I am actually very bad with foreign languages ... I just don't think that way!

Richard- The only redeeming thing to me about fall is captured in your photo. I love the colors. God is an awesome artist. I dislike fall because I love summer and fall means it's over and winter is just around the corner. Yuk.

Richard,

Every year I set my plan and try to accomplish all that I hav planned to do.  Then there could be a hickkup along the way but, it does not mean I stop trying.  Good point my friend and thank you for the reminder.

Richard,

I know that feeling. That's why I took over 1200 photos over a 2 day period my last good fall (the ones I've been posting). I really like this picture of yours for total color, mix, and composition. Good job. :)

Richard- I read a quote the other day on the back of a hunting catalog (don't ask!) it said the road to success takes many paths but no short cuts....what do you think?
