Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

Forget what I was thinking earlier this morning, it's time to move on!

Grotto Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains National ParkI just wrote a long diatribe about the upcoming election and the role of the president, and while I was proofreading it, I thought to myself: "Nobody really cares what I think about the state of the American electorate, so dump the epistle and move on!" Poof! Gone!!

And so my friends, you have been spared from the expectations of a simple man that just thinks powers of the president are actually quite limited and that most people that vote do so for inexplicable reasons so there's nothing that can be done to correct that, and we are inevitably doomed, regardless of our actions.

What really bothers me though, is the amount of misinformation that is being promulgated in this forum and elsewhere on the Internet. I am weary of reading so called tidbits are this or that that are factually untrue or even blatant lies. Nobody is going to change their mind anyway! That has long been established.

Great Smoky MountainsSo PLEASE don't try to change minds with urban myths or legends, misleading or doctored statistics, or long-winded biographies.

The average person in the United States will vote based on looks, the way a candidate sounds, or some perceived financial benefit. And nothing, and I mean nothing, will change their mind. That's it, end of story.

Richard, many people are locked into a candidate based on superficial traits as you mention, while probably a handful evaluate them at more depth. One voter, one vote. Then we had them all up on the electoral map. That is our system. Most often OUR opinions sway no one. It is wasted breath, which I think you have concluded as well.

Your correct, we don't need more infomericals here in the Rain on who thinks what and why and lies about the upcoming election and electionees...thanks for the beautiful photos.  Eye candy for sure!

Richard,  Thankfully, that subject has only about another month to run before it runs out of "hot air."  I'm shocked at how many intelligent people actually believe in most of the internet crap that's being churned out.  I do wonder though how many people are actually voting "for" their candidate as opposed to voting "against" the current administration.

Richard...well said. I'm probably one of those people that has NOT researched the issues. I'm trying to change that this year, by getting a copy of ballot so I can know WHAT I'm voting for or against. (Wording on the ballot is not always clear as to what you are casting your vote for!)

What will the New Year, and a New President bring? Only time will tell! BTW, here's to your 6:30am arrival...I'm with you on that one...cept my morning routine will be changing to a visit to the gym FIRST....sitting here is taking a "toll" on parts of my body! LOL!

Richard, it's almost as if all of the tidbits from Snopes has been posted and reposted here ad nauseum.

I'm like you.  I shake my head wondering how people don't understand that one person (The President of the United States) has all the power in our country.  If you study government at all you would see that so many others have much responsibility and power.

Yes, the powers of a president are limited, more so than most people think, but than again, he represents America in the world and I think specially in a time like this he can give the people a positive, forward focused attitude

There is so much false information on the internet, how is one to know what is true or false.

Gary...

And the reality is that different things matter to different people ... the appointment of federal judges for life means more to me than anything!

Gail...

I would like for just one person to tell me that they changed their mind based on something they read in a blog post! THX!

Richard I...

I will never vote for the lesser of two evils. In either case, I am supporting evil.

Thom...

Goodness! The better half just told me the other day that I needed to get some exercise! So it's not just me? ;)

Richard,

I would like to have seen the longer message. You're exactly right. The president pretty much doesn't get to do anything they promise. They can't raise or lower taxes or enact anything. They can support that position and argue for it, but it's the never-do-anything-except-spend-money Congress that enacts. :)

I completely agree.  I attended the Star Power conference two weeks ago, one of the speakers is a great friend of Sarah Palin (which is fine) but we heard a tad too much about Sarah.  I felt like the focus moved to the election rather than Real Estate.  KM

BINGO!  The bases of the parties are both less than 40% each so when you write something ignorant (and like others have said, there is always snopes to check it out,) you are only talking to either 27% of America or 38% of America, assuming each base is 100% behind their candidate and votes.  You alienate the rest.

I try to stay "apolitical" on my blog and not endorse any candidate and speak about the issues that pertain to real estate (disappearance of DPA and bailout are two that really affect our profession.)

I agree, I've seen alot of flat out lies copied and pasted here on AR and it really makes me question the so called "authors" of these blogs.  It's true that the president is only one man, but I am encouraged by the participation and passion that comes out of our political process.

Richard - I personally enjoy open and honest debate about candidates and issues.  However, this is best done amongst close personal friends.  As you mentioned, there is no value to the endless repetition of talking points, half-truths, blatant lies, and rhethoric that forms the basis of most posts here.

Richard:  So true.  The President can do NOTHING without the legislative branch.  Those pesky checks and balances.  ;)  However, I think we have seen the effects of a President that has tried to skirt those checks and balances, and I must say, I won't be sad to see him go.

Hello Richard-Since the blog button came back yesterday it made it so easy for me to find you except it isn't my usual early morning comment. Must be tired from spending yesterday trying to find the blog button(lol)and life got in the way today. Politics is a subject I have an opinion on,but I won't get into that on a public post. You are right about people not changing their mind but it will be over good, bad or otherwise in less than a month.  I love those pics they are awesome, where are they taken?  I had a offer of help from Brad Andersohn with my music tape. Thought that really nice of him. A pretty cool guy. I hope you had a good day. Take care and I'll see you again ,same place different blog. Until then KB,KS, and above all KTF.

Truth is, "most" people are that shallow. Over 50% of people interviewed on the street could not name the current vice-president, over two thirds cannot name their representation in the House.

Scary and sad.

Posted by Richard Weisser Coweta Fayette Real Estate over 3 years ago

Hi Richard,

Whoever becomes the next president, will have to get both the Senate & House and the rest of the U.S. public involved.  Hopefully, and I do mean hopefully, the rest of the American public doesn't get on the "denial forum" or "complacent" after the elections, because we will need the public to straighten out the Senate & House of all of the "special interest" groups thqt are basically & currently running this country.

With public outrage & "voicing their opinions & demands" we will see a better turn to the positive for our country!!!

The complacent years are over!

Richard - is this a case of my minds made up, don't confuse me with the facts

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) over 3 years ago

Ann-Marie...

You give the American electorate way too much credit, I'll bet real money that not one in twenty-five Americans can answer these simple questions:

1) Who is the current vice president.

2) What is the difference between the house, the senate, and the congress.

3) How many senators are there?

4) How many members in the house of representatives are there?

5) How many branches of government are there?

I'll go one step farther and say that not more than one in TEN would get three right.

Just how "involved" do you think these people are?

Mike...

WhaT I am saying is that there is no facts that metter to 90% of the electorate.

Posted by Richard Weisser Coweta Fayette Real Estate over 3 years ago

Richard - Unfortunately, a large percentage of what you just said is true.  I look at what some people say about candidates and I just think in my head ... "ar you really that stupid?"  But like you said, absolutely no use trying to change their mind.

Hi Richard ... What I read in the popular media is indeed scary, and when I see it reiterated in a post it is even scarier.  I don't mind the expression of views and opinions in support of one's choice.  What I have found unfortunate is when the poster lambastes the opposition or demands an explanation from those who may vote for the opposition.  I guess it is this expression of anger that I do not understand.  It seems irrational.  We all have a right to our vote (on whatever basis) and the man who is elected president is indeed in check.

Richard, put me in the camp with those that would have liked to read your first draft.

Frankly I think one of the biggest problem we face in this country is apathy.  So many people are just content to sit on the sidelines with a devil may care attitude.  The heck with that... This is OUR country... take an active role in it's direction.  The goobers that vote based on appearance or 'just cuz' scare the heck out of me.
