These early days of fall do something to me. I hate to say that they make me feel lazy, so I'll use the word lethargic.
Thanks to the tropical storms and hurricanes, we have had less daylight lately, and nature is kicked off into fall a little early this year in the south. You can tell that we are on the cusp of a change, and the air is finally a bit cooler.
It makes it hard for me to concentrate on my work. All I can think about is the mountains, photos, and apple cider. It's a strange force that draws me every year. The sense of urgency, the thought that tomorrow it may be too late forces me into action.
So I am cleaning my lenses, studying my trail maps, and watching the web cams. I am ready to spring into action at a moment's notice, but for now, I'll be content with daydreaming!

And the realization comes that winter is coming when you have to turn on the heat for the first time this season to take the morning chill out of the air.
It's hard to stay focused when the leaves are changing colors. Their brilliance mesmerizes me. Somehow, they seem to know to do it every year at this time. How "cool" is that!
I love Fall, it is my favorite time of the year. The smell, leaves changing colors. There is just nothing like it. Thanks, Keith
Richard: Have another month or so before it sets in here. Interesting thing about Central Texas is that the leaves begin to change LONG before we see much of a temperature change. Usually our first cool snap is in late October, but I am REALLY looking forward to it this year!
Richard I love that photo of the water tumbling over the very round time worn mossy rocks.. did you take it yourself?
Gorgeous picture. Stay focused and get to work!
Richard I have been cleaning and going though stuff (down sizing) and finishing projects. I have to get ready for the long cold Miami winter, the 70 degree wheather is right around the corner!
Here in St. Pete we don't really know when summer ends and fall starts, the sun is out every day and the leaves do not change the color. Sometimes I daydream about a ski trip with lots of snow
Lenn...
I NEVER will do that before November 1. Of course, the house gets pretty chilly of those October evenings, but I'm thrifty!
Laura...
It gets me excited too!
Cindy...
My problem is, I can't stay focused! Hopefully, I'll have enough gas to get to the mountains!
Keith...
Absolutely nothing like it. THX.
Steve...
It can be as late as November here, it's hard to predict. You can just smell it now so I know it's imminent!
Hi Richard. Fall is the best season of all. What a relaxing picture this morning. Get out there with your camera and don't come back until you have plenty of more pictures!!
Thanks for writing,
Ken
Richard - doesn't sound lethargic to me, just redirected. Yeah, fall has that same effect on me, gotta polish up my golf clubs.
Sometimes when I'm day dreaming I come up with my best ideas! Just don't do it too long!! Enjoy
We know exactly how you feel! Living in the foothills of Hickory, NC, it makes it so tempting around this time of year, to take a quick drive up to the Blue Ridge Mountains and just "take it all in!"
The picture is beautiful! However, it seems you put your name on the photo, and then credited someone else.... did you take it?
Have a great week! Treat yourself to some apple cider!
Gail...
Yes I dd. I have been taking photos for years and I always try to incorporate one into my blogs! Thanks for asking.
Mel...
Do I ever get tired of hearing that. NO! And that's for the "motivational" speech!
Darin...
Bundle up, that's practically frigid!
Anne...
I hear that Utah is nice for skiing, but that's one think that I have never done.
Ken...
You know I will! Thanks for the pep talk.
Mike...
I let the ball polish my clubs as I slice them off into oblivion!
Richard,
I know what you're saying, but fall has the opposite effect on me. It energizes me. With the fresh air, color, shorter days, I want to get more done.
Steve
Lovely photo. Thanks for the great start to a soon to be busy Monday. This is my favorite time of year as well. My windows are open and a cool breeze is moving through the house. It is peaceful and I wish it was like this all the time!
;)
The one thing that is great lately down south is the weather. It has turned cool lately, and the days are just perfect. I love your photos!
Richard: I know that feeling! I always get excited to see the leaves at their peak. Then it's time to get excited about Halloween and carve some pumpkins. But after Halloween, I sort of go into a funk...waiting for the days to get longer.
Tammy...
I really need to get my mind back on work! THX.
Justie and Katie...
I took the photo! SmokyPhotos ids my website and all of the photos there are my original work. I'm trying to revamp the site by the first of Ocober but with over 2000 pages, it's a challenge. Thanks for asking.
Steve...
I get more done, just not things of the "work" genre! Thanks as always.
At least its a great time of year to get awesome photos for your blogs.
I love the fall! It is probably my favorite season..and not just since my Bday comes during it! :)
Betine...
I have things to do and I am having trouble getting motivated.
Jim...
It has been extremely pleasant here in the area! Thanks for the kind words.
Chris Ann...
I think that fall has the best aromas ... like that of the fresh carved pumpkin! THX.
Stacey-Ann
Yes it is! I love it!
Jer...
Ah, so you're a fall baby ... or did you fall when you were a baby? lol
You know Richard...that would explain a lot about me...LOL!
Hi Richard,
Beautiful photo. Do you have to "input" the buttons and wording at the bottom of the post every time or do you have a secret you could share as to how you do that?
Ann
I can't wait to see the fall shots you'll get this year... no doubt they will be spectacular. Our fall is all but done... almost all the leaves are off the trees here. Snow is just weeks away. WoHoo! haha
Bill...
Some pics would be nice!
Jer...
I thought you would like that! JL.. It was invigorating for you then?
Ann...
Believe it or not, you can just copy and paste from another blog into the input area and it works! It's that easy.
Jesse...
As I told you on the phone, unbelievable! I am ready to go get 'em, in the meantime I will rehash some previous years!
Somebody say Golf? I'm ready. Fall is a good time of the year and it would be better if we went right into spring and forego winter. Stay forcused my friend.
Richard,
So cool. I will have to see if I can figure it out. Seems like a great idea.
Ann
Bill..,
Can't wait to see them.
Don...
We can play most weekends in the winter, but it's pretty chilly some mornings!
Ann...
Just give it a try. ;)
Richard-I love all the photos you use on your blogs. Fall is my favorite time of year as it is cooler and the leaves are turning beautiful colors. I seem to get more done with the cooler weather. I love fresh apple cider and donuts. Enjoy your Fall.
Hi Richard, Fall has a similar affect on me, although it is more of a melancholy feeling. Summer, my favorite season is over and the shorter days mean less walks with neighbors and less friendly waves on a summer evening while working in the garden. The shorter days make me feel a little claustrophobic but I try to get out in the sunshine no matter how cool it gets outside. So, although autumn is a beautiful season, wonderful weather, beautiful colors, it also means the end of something, which is not something I am very good at. As always, the photo was beautiful.
HI Richard, I hate being a kill-joy but I do not like the cold. I love the summer months and dread them ending. Then i look forward for months of them beginning and make plans outdoors all summer. It doesn't even get that cold here! I do not like putting more clothes on for fear of getting cold! Perhaps I should live somewhere where it is summer all the time?!?! KM
Pat...
We have a place in the mountains that makes AWESOME fried apple pies, and they make a cider slushie too! YUM!
Susan...
I actually like a touch of melancholy and reflection ... I find it cleansing and refreshing. And my neighbors don't like me so that's not and issue! lol
Kristin...
But you get to wear boots and sweaters so it's not all bad! ;)
Richard, maybe it's the yellow underpants they aren't so crazy about! Lol!
Susan...
LOL! No, it's because I have the audacity to say something when they cut down trees on MY property or dump their yard trash on MY property or pull surveyors ribbons over MY property ... you get the picture. I hadn't though about the yellow underpants though, that may justify all of that in their minds.
Richard- I feel this way when Fall rolls around also. I think it is called the hibernation syndrome. But I don't wanna be a bear!! BTW I like your new header...very nice.
Richard,
I am trying...I need buttons!! LOL
Ann
