If you enjoy Americana at it finest, then Newnan Georgia should be on your short list of places to consider for relocation.
Newnan is the County Seat of Coweta County, Georgia, and it is known as the "City of Homes." During the civil war, General William Tecumseh Sherman did not pass through Newnan, so many of its antebellum homes survive to this day!
Newnan still offers a downtown square that features shopping, restaurants, and lots of antique and crafts marts interspersed between the offices offering every sort of professional services. There is still a county fair each year at the county fairgrounds, and many activities throughout the year.
Before you move to the Atlanta area, please be sure to plan a visit to Newnan and Coweta County. The low home prices and excellent amenities make this one town you'll have to consider as a relocation possibility!

There is a lot to be said for small town living ... and we even have all of the big city stuff out "near the interstate!" Thanks for the comment.
Richard....speaking of small towns...my home town in Montana was just featured in a travel article on Yahoo Travel! How Cool! And we just came back from NC and TN. We skirted around most of the small towns, but they can be so much fun....neat little stores, antiques shops are always around, and the people are just plain friendly!
Now you've given me a reason to head down your way.....you buying lunch?

You KNOW I will buy, just tell me your culinary preference! Also, I am working on a Localism post that will list all of the antique dealers and second hand shops in town! You can find some treasures occasionally at Goodwill!

We are about 40 miles SouthWest of Atlanta, but only 25 miles to the Atlanta Airport, which makes us popular with those that work there. It's a neat place, because we are right on the fringe of suburbia ... Drive in one direction and your in the biggest Metropolis in the Southeast, Drive in the other directing and your in some very rural countryside!
