Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

Something you may not know about me ... I like to paint!

paintingI believe that every regular  reader of this web blog knows that I love to take photographs. I like to share them too, and I try to feature an original photograph in every post that I write.

Many of you also know that I am pretty good with computers and the Internet, and have created many graphics in my time for websites and presentations. I use various software programs to help me generate and enhance the images, and I enjoy the work.

What you may not know is that I also like to paint! No, I'm not talking about house painting, although I did that professionally for years. I had my own company and painted more condos than you would ever believe, as I stopped counting at 10,000 painted.

I'm talking about watercolor painting and occasionally oils. I don't get a chance to do it often, but every ten years or so I get a hankering to create some art and I purchase supplies and go to town!

I'm not all that good at it, and I am not classically trained. In fact. I have no schooling at all in the craft, other than the school of hard knocks accentuated by trial and error. But I have managed to complete a few hundred works, some better than others and all quite primitive but somewhat appealing.

So I usually find something I want to paint, and take a few photos to help me translate the subject to the 2D world of paper, and then I start wetting the paper and let the color flow. If it turns out okay, it gets a frame. If not, it goes into the large stack of "almost!"

There's an interesting story about the painting illustrated in this post. It has long been one of my favorites. A friend of mine had a book, about paintings done in Georgia, and another artist had painted the exact same scene! Same angle, the only difference was my painting represented autumn and the other artist depicted the scene in winter. I am still trying to find a copy of that book, but I can't remember the title.

Maybe I'll get the paints out and finish that Cape Cod one I started ... back in 1989! I never did say that I get in a hurry!

Hi Richard.  I didn't know pictures on the post were your thing.  But I have commented on your last two how nice they looked so I should have figured it out.

Anyway, art is not about schooling.  It's about passion.

Congrats on your passions.

That's gorgeous, Richard- just beautiful. Watercolor is so difficult. Have you ever done houses (either for yourself, or other real estate agents) for people that have closed? My mother received a beautiful watercolor of a property that she owned (the real estate agent hired someone) and she's kept it to this day, despite having moved twice.

Ken...

Thanks! It is very much like blogging, you need inspiration before you start. Watercolor is fun because often the painting takes on a life if it's own!

Liz..

It does look cool and refreshing, doesn't it?

Laurie...

I have done my houses, but never one for a client ... yet! That is an interesting idea though, I'll have to think about it! Thanks.

Richard - you are truly a rennaisance man. What other talents haven't you shared.

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) over 3 years ago

For someone that has never had any training I think that you do a really great job.  Is there anything else that you haven't shared with us??

Thank you my friend

Take care,

Good question my friend, but she was a cash buyer.

Richard- I am impressed also. And I think you actually have a bit of talent with the brush.

Posted by Lori Franks ~ Brookings, Oregon (Real Estate Consultant) over 3 years ago

Richard - There you go with another talent!  I think too, that you should paint/draw a few of your clients homes for them - I'm sure they'd love it.

Richard,

Selling on eBay has an "addiction rating" as well as painting...

That's a nice picture.  I taught art in the public school for 12 years so I give you an A!

Richard,

Very nice. It sounds as if you have your artistic abilities testing the many waters. Painting is an art I have always wanted to try but have never had the time or supplys. Oils are tougher to use aren't they? I hope to get to try my hand at it one of these days.

Lovely picture and thank you so much for sharing this work of art with us. I see that Barbara gave you an A! That says it all.

Rain...

I should have known!

Lori...

Thanks, I do it for fun and relaxation, and if a painting comes out nice then so be it!

April...

I've got one of the house I grew up in somewhere, I think I'll find it and scan it for AR!

Ann...

I need to go there and do that so I can say been there done that! lol

Mandi...

Thanks, I really do appreciate the nice words, and I'll try to come up with some more interesting stuff!

Barbara...

At our office we get art from the kids at the local elementary school every year and hang it EVERYWHERE. Then it is replaced with new art from the next group of kids each year. These kids are talented, and we get some great art to decorate the office!

Deb..

I like working with oils, but they don't dry for months are can produce a lot of odor! I have 4 or 5 oils hanging at the house and I really like them!

Pam...

It's really more of a hit-and-miss thing than talent. If you try something OFTEN enough, you can get good results.

Phylis...

So far no one had admitted to it, except Barbara teaching art at school!

Well Richard, I would say that you have all kinds of hidden talents.. Just like your fantastic photography - you just have an eye for it - love the watercolor.. I have always wanted to experiment with watercolor but probably will stick with acrylics..  God bless,

Richard, I've always loved to paint too.  I used to try to do watercolors all the time.  One day, my sister-in-law, a house cleaner, was here and threw all of my art supplies out because she thought they were trash.  They were in a big container.  Let's not go to the "what is she an idiot" question.  Asked and answered, as they say on Law and Order.  I never got around to re-buying the paint and stopped painted.  That's about 15 years ago.  Now that my youngest is 12, I keep thinking about taking a course.  Thanks for letting us know you paint.  You are truly multi-faceted!

Richard,

Get out there on eBay and sell a few of those paintings.  You might find you like that community as well.
