I love to explore. It's in my nature. When I come across a road in my area that I have never traveled, I feel compelled to discover what lies ahead on the road and where it will take me.
Sometimes there are nice surprises. There may be an old building here or there to photograph, a beautiful farm with thoroughbred horses or a cemetery with the names of many prominent county citizens.
It's fun to go off in a different direction, to delve into new possibilities and to find out there might be something of significance that you have been missing. And that it has been there all along.
And who knows, you just might learn a lesson about life as well!

Wandering is fun...however I'll bet many of us do it less due to the high cost of gas. :(
Richard, my favorite poem is by my favorite poet, Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken. The last line says it all, "I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference.
Your words are very poetic.
Bo
A good Real Estate agent vever travels the same path. You would love going out for drives with my husband. He gets lost all the time!
Richard I wonder everyday and the only thing going in a different direction is my Real Estate career!
Richard, I like your positive attitude, a lot of people are afraid when they "wander"
Like me, I am going to a cabin in the woods over the weekend, I was told how beautiful it is, no people, 3 miles from the next road. . . .
All I am thinking is , no Internet connection, hope my cell will at least work, where do I get my Starbucks coffee in the morning. . . .
You get the picture
Suzanne...
Well, we can walk, ride our bike, or one of those cool little electric cars! lol
Bo...
Thanks! I'm no Robert Frost (One of my favorites too) but I write poetry, and I have pondered the notion of putting some here, but I don't know ... that's pretty risky! THX, as always.
Laura...
Oddly enough, I rarely get lost! I have often taken "short cuts" in places that I have never been before. I think that I have a built-in GPS! Thanks for the comment!
Darin...
But sometimes if you go back to where you started you can set off in an entirely new direction! Thanks, my friend!
Anne...
I just commented on Jason Crouch's post about real estate agents and vacations... you can NEVER leave the office behind! I hope that you get a chance to relax a little and not freak out and head to the coffee shop for caffeine and wireless!
Richard - point taken! Our city is so car-focused. However, we do have LOTS of parks, and I'm planning to do some winter hikes with friends already.
Suzanne...
It's not that far to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! Why not plan some hikes there?
Richard, I am so with you on ths one. I've been enjoying my "clueless vacation" tremendously. We just make it up as we go along, and I have to say this one has been the very best one yet! :-)
Ah, I was gonna mention Robert Frost, but someone beat me to it. Nice post, very introspective.
Richard - Bo already said what I was going to. Although I did take the road less traveled to Robert Frost's New Hampshire home. Even with gas prices I still try to find new routes and roads to take at least once a week. I found a very interesting home pottery the other day.
Metaphorically speaking I am still 'wandering' around trying to figure out my next step. I thought it was a 'done' deal. There was a wrench thrown in yesterday afternoon around 4pm.
Great stuff!
That is why I love the rural areas...stop and smell the roses, or, ragweed, depending on the season. Never did like the city! If that old barn could talk...lookout!!!
Richard: I hate that feeling of disappointment that you get when you go down a road that you have wondered about, and it's not at all interesting or impressive. On the other hand, one that doesn't initially interest me may turn out to go much farther than I thought.
Richard,
Love the picture of the old barn.... It looks like it has been there forever.
And everyone needs to take time to enjoy the life they have.
Ann
Richard did Mel say Metaphorically??? WOW ;))
Really sir this is a real fun time and one that I should do more ofter. Color change is coming so I can see more wandering rides into someplace. Thank you for the reminder my friend.
Richard....I love to go explore as well! My problem is I don't do it often enough. Like Ann said we just need to take the time and do it!
Richard,
I'm with you. Even more I enjoy taking one road to a destination and coming home another - short or long trip.
Steve
C...
Now that's the adventurous spirit that I like to see! I hope that y'all continue to have a great time
Brian...
You snooze you lose, but thank you VERY much for the comment!
Mike...
And I always find something to share too ... I can't wait to tell others!
Mel...
I am so sorry you are having a rough time "relocating." Let us know how we can help!
Bill...
You're not the city type? That surprises me ...NOT!!! Thanks ny friend.
Chris Ann...
There is a road by our house called "Cabin Road" and we drove up and down and guess what? No cabin. What a disappointment! Thanks.
Ann...
I LOVE old buildings, and consider it my duty to preserve them with the camera. It's a great hobby, and it keeps me out of trouble! ;)
Don...
I can't WAIT for fall! It is by far my favorite time of the year! THX
Lori...
My favorite trips are the ones within an hour of the house! It's really fun to find out where EVERY road goes!
Steve...
You're right about that! I love to loop and hate to backtrack! Thanks so much.
Richard,
Congrats on the great way to stay out of trouble.
Happy Labor Day!
Ann
