There are times in life when we need to make a decision. Sometimes the view of the road that leads forward is obstructed, and we can't see what is on the other side of the tunnel.
We could stay where we are, nestled and safe in the sanctuary of familiarity, or we can continue on, ready to accept the unknown environment that lies ahead.
But be wary, many have traveled the same road before and have turned back. The fear of "what might be" can be overpowering and crippling. A change of scenery requires adaptation to new surroundings, and some are not up to the challenge.
But rest assured, there are just as many that have moved forward, and willingly accepted the new opportunities afforded simply by plunging into the "what might be" with open minds and eager attitudes.
It's important to think of these choices as opportunities, and not obstacles. And remember, once you break on through to the other side, you won't look back!

One of these days i am going to figure out how to post great pictures like you. Nice post Richard. Thanks
Richard my friend,
You have so much wisdom and express it so well. In addition to having just the right picture to make your point. Always a pleasure sir.
Hi Richard , thanks for the post I'm thinking of moving and sitting here exactly at this minute thinking if it is the right choice or not. The idea of
a new environment, a start all over in real estate, leaving a familiar, a home we built,
lifestyle and successful career, all this to be closer to my family. your post gives me something to think about
Richard,
Even though I get stressed wondering how a new decision will work out...I still just go with the flow and not worry about it too much as long as it isn't life threatening.
Hey Richard,
There you go again on me, I would like to break thru and retire but because this market is so bad I couldn't sell the rentals, well for peanuts maybe! I think I will stay on this side of the tunnel, besides the light at the other end may be a train coming!
Charlie...
It's just something I like to do, although it has consumed a HUGE part of my life! ;)
Hi Don,
Thanks, I ALWAYS appreciate the daily support!
June...
I'm glad it applies. Actually, many of my friends in the real estate business are having a tough time right now, so I am trying to keep them positive and upbeat!
Neal...
Do you consider starvation life threatening? lol
Darin...
It might be, it might be indeed ... but it will FORCE a resolution! Thanks, my friend.
Richard - no matter how I
Try to run
Try to hide
I can't get away from your thought provoking posts and terrific pictures.
Mike...
That's awful nice of you to say! So break on through to the other side and have a great weekend! You know whereI'll be!
I took this post personally. Thank you.
Mel...
I guess you know I meant it that way! ;)
Richard -
How many in life always wonder "what if?" I would assume - most people do!
Many play it safe, don't take chances. They live in comfort, but always wonder what would have happened if they took a particular step.
"Out of the box" decisions are the ones that change your life. Though sometimes risky, experience often teaches us the most dire consequences seldom occur, and the opportunity for positive growth nearly always trumps it.
Thanks for the thoughts, and your incredible photos. Must have taken considerable work to find the right shot, wait for the right lighting, and snap these photos. Wow!
Come to Chicago - we've got some great photo opps here!
DEAN & DEAN'S TEAM CHICAGO
Very true Richard...The most fear we have is from Fear of the unknown. It's almost always there. But to succeed, you need to look fear in the face and back it down!
Richard, I think this is so true. Successful people, in all aspects of their lives, have taken so many chances. Not all good but we benefit from the experiences and think how good we feel when we come out on top.
Richard, going in blindly is foolhardy. Being prepared makes the unknown easy to address and react to and smooths out some of the rough edges that fear can bring.
Very thoughtful post and as always a great pic.
Bo
Very good points and well taken. I do find it sort of funny that you would quote lyrics from song by The Doors but it works! Thanks again!
Richard, great post, great though for the day. If we would all stay where we are, the world would come to a stand still. Just thing about real estate, if you do not constantly try new things and move forward, you are actually moving backwards
Anne
Dean...
You're welcome, but I am beginning to worry that I am setting such a high standard for myself that I cannot maintain the same level of intensity! Thanks for reading and commenting, I really appreciate the support!
Bill...
Most of the time we find out later that there was nothing for which to be afraid. Thanks again!
Audrey...
And the MOST successful people have failed many times! Thank you!
Bo...
Thank you, but sometimes you have to go in without any assurance at all!
Russell...
Jim Morrison's was ringing in my ears ..."Break on through to the other side ... Break on in through to the other side!" Thanks.
Richard: Being overcome by fear can be crippling. It's easy to recognize some fears, but fear of change, or something new can be tough. Like the agents that aren't learning short sales...just waiting for the landscape to "get back to normal." That is crippling their business. And when the landscape of our business changes again, there is no guarantee it will be what they remember as "normal." Have a great weekend!
Chris Ann...
You are right about that. Only those that adapt will survive. I am working really hard at learning new things about new markets. It's a challenge, but hey, I'm up for it!
Richard.......This is my favorite post you have written so far. It speaks right to me and shows me that someone else is right there on the same page. I will also have my husband read this. We were just discussing how as you get older it is harder to embrace change. What an encouragement my friend, Thank you!
Richard, thank you for sharing your thoughts and wisdom! I love the visual with what you wrote, and thanks for the encouragement.
Nice post Richard. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Faith.
