Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

What a wonderful gift from above!

waterIt rained last night. All night. Usually, you don't think too much about that, nut we have been in a severe drought here in Georgia for two years now, and it has been some time since we have had a long, soaking rain.

After many months of dealing with a total ban on outdoor watering and daily conservation, the rain has taken on an entirely new significance. We not only use water to make our coffee and flush our toilets, we also use it to generate power, and on hot summer days in the south, the demand for power is high!

That's true about everything in life: You never realize how important something is until you don't have it anymore. You never appreciate the red hot market until it cools off, you never fully appreciate a customer until there are none, and you never realize how much the people around you matter until they move on and try their hand at something else.

Life is about change, and we go through many. Some are bittersweet, but there is always some positive in everything. As for me, I'll just enjoy the rain!

It rained in Hendnersonville, NC last night and we are on mandatory water restrictions.  I too am truly happy for the rain and for the privilege of helping people.

Raining still here. I needed it my poor flowers were choking and my willow lost all its leaves. Just what we needed.

Richard:  Send some over Texas!  We are dry as the proverbial bone!

Mary...

I know that the Carolinas have been suffering too. How sweet is the rain? Thanks.

Laura...

Wow, this rain is quite widespread, isn't it? Thank you for the report.

Steve...

Hopefully, there will be something heading your way soon!

Richard - rain hit all around but not here last night. Of course, as I had to go out and feed the dog it was raining this morning.

Have you heard the latest? Some judge is going to hear arguments in January whether or not Atlanta and neighboring cities are entitled to any water from Lake Lanier at all.

Posted by Mike Saunders (Lanier Partners) almost 4 years ago

Richard,

You should come live in FL...even though it rains everyday now because were in hurricane season...we've had a drought alert for the last few years and we can get fined if we water at the wrong times...Oh they'll let us water 3 times a week or if we want to wash our cars all we have to do is go out at 4 am and wash it...how convenient.

Richard, We got some much needed rain here in San Antonio yesterday.  It was very welcome and very needed.

We get it today in the mountains. I did not think you guys were as bad off as the Atlanta folks

Nice post. Sometimes we should make time to appreciate the things we take for granted.

Richard, I remember when I was a kid, we had droughts in NY.  I hope that this rain is a sign of good things to come for GA.

We have had a lot of nice rain in south western FLorida this summer.  We really love a rainy day!

Folks -

Rain, like life, is a simple thing we take for granted.  It's only when you don't have it that you appreciate it more.

Human nature.  Sometimes it sucks!  Right?

Glad you folks finally got some rain - but, hey, try to keep the storms away for the double header at Turner Field today - I'd like our Chicago Cubs to beat the Braves a couple of times today!

I no longer take things for granted.  Im thankful every day for the littlest things I have...I lost my first wife to cancer when I was 24.  She was only 22.  It really opened my eyes as to what is important in the world...changed me quite profoundly, actually.

All the best.

Richard, I know that you get most of your water from Lake Linear (SP?) and Atlanta and the norther part of GA have been really hurting. I think the whole country could use a good 'farmers' rain. What do you think?

Richard,

I like the way we humans over-react (not all of us, but many). It doesn't rain for a year or two and now everything's going to cease to exist. Then it rains at record levels for a year or two and we have flooding. No one's happy either way. However, it's called cycles, and it's balance.

Richard,

We haven't heard much about your lack of rain problem of late.  It is like it fell off of the radar screen.  I am so glad to hear that you did get some more and hope that you will continue to get the soaking type for many days to come to replenish that which was lost.

Have a GREAT day and enjoy the dampness below your feet

Richard, we need it everywhere or at least it seems. Atlanta in particular needs it because of short water supplies (chattahoochee, lanier, alatoona) It amazes me that the warnings were not heeded 30 years ago. I do not understand why cities do not have a water retention program to store rain water and use technology to dole it out.....I am glad for you, your plants, your yard, trees, etc. Rain is a wonderful thing!

Richard, great thought about appreciation. I heard a twist on it with this quote, "You don't know what you have till it's gone, but you also don't know what's been missing till it arrives." That has happened many times in my life. Hope you continue to get your needed rain.

Richard:  We could stand some rain here in Virginia too.  I love to sleeping when it's raining.  So cozy.  As for the larger statement, it's true. We all take things for granted.

Richard- lately here on the Oregon Coast we have been having the fog roll in every evening. It is sort of like rain by morning every thing is wet. But it is a blessing to me if it burns off and I see the sun, if only for a few hours in the afternoon. Never happy are we!!

Isn't it beautiful? Thanks.

Charlie...

We're not as bad off, but we must comply with the statewide restrictions! Bummer!

That is exactly what we should do.

I made several trips to the Finger Lakes area ... nice country!

Congratulations on the rain... you folks definitely needed a drink from above.  We, on the other hand, are waterlogged.  I think I can even breathe through my ears a little. :)

Richard,

I have written a couple of similiar posts about being thank-ful for the rain. My garden is doing pretty well this season considering the dry spells between rains.

Water is VERY important and is truly a blessing!

Michael...

Lake Lanier, after poet Sydney Lanier, and yes, a good dousing is in order!

Steve...

If we didn't have the weather to talk about, then what would we say?

Evelyn

I put the order in for you!

Don...

I appreciate the kind words, and I am hoping we get some more need rain!

Bo...

And believe it or not, it alleviates some stress too! Thanks, my friend!

Gary...

I can say the latter about my lovely wife! Thanks.

Jim...

We had about two inches at the house, I hope more is headed north for you guys!

Chris Ann...

In the summer, rain usually only arrives with violent thunderstorms, but it was a genle rain last night and it was great for sleeping!

Posted by Richard Weisser Coweta Fayette Real Estate almost 4 years ago

Richard...I have heard about the drought.  Was wondering if it had subsided at all.  Bhy the sounds of it, it hadn't and you still need more. We take for granted water being there, like a lot of the other little things in life.

I was actually out the door this a.m. to have to go back in the house to change my shoes.  The rain and the weather were icky.  The sky was overcast all day long so I "forced" myself to take a 2 hr nap...thank you Jesus.  :)

Nice thought for me to end my night with...I know that I certainly appreciate my health most when I don't feel my best.  It's odd how we don't think about those types of things until we don't have them.

First, I lived through a bit of that Georgia drought and am happy there was a good rain! Second, I could not agree more that it is important for us to recognize the good times and take the time to appreciate them. Great post as always!

Cindy...

That's just the way we are, I guess. Thanks.

Pam...

Thanks, I really appreciate the kudos!

Jeremy...

The North side of town has gotten about half of the rain we got all year!

Rich...

The drought caused a lot of tension between municipalities. And appreciation should always be at the top of our lists!
