The James E. McGuffey Nature Center is located in the Coweta County Fairgrounds complex, south of Newnan. The Nature Center offers both educational and recreation opportunities for visitors.
There are several instructional areas. The main building offers a large coved outdoor classroom, and an outside fire pit learning area. There are also mini amphitheatres along the trails in the wooded areas where instructors can offer information about local ecosystems.
Visitors may also enjoy hiking any one or all the numerous trails that travel through the diverse forest, bog and lake locations. There is even a paved nature trail for those with disabilities.
There is also a demonstration vegetable garden, and numerous floral planting that enhance the overall look of the site.
There is ample free parking, modern restroom facilities, and picnic tables are available. The Nature Center is generally uncrowded, and is a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Newnan.
To get there, take U.S. 29 (LaGrange Street) South, and take a Right turn on Pine Street. Cross the railroad track and take the first left into the Coweta County Fairgrounds, then turn Right into the Nature Center.
The James E. McGuffey Nature Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. Saturday from 8:30 A.M. until 30 minutes prior to sunset. Sunday from 1:P0 A.M. until 30 minutes prior to sunset. Closed Mondays.

Hi Richard;
Great promotion for your community. I will bookmark for future ref.

Richard, a nature center like this one makes for a very nice excursion for a morning or an afternoon on a pleasant day. Looks very relaxing.
You have a way with words and pictures. This makes me think 'road trip'.
Richard,
When the pressures of the day start to pile up this sounds like the place to head for an hour or two.
I agree with Mel.

Anthony...
Thanks... it's one of our favorite places! Thank you.
Gary...
It is, and it is under-appreciated in our community. However, light crowds make for great photo opportunities. Thanks.

Thanks! I had to search through the archives for these ... and then I thought ... why didn't I just ride by there after work??? Crazy.
Don...
How right you are ,,, when I worked in Downtown Atlanta I would head to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, but in Coweta County, this is the place to go! Thanks, as always for the comment.
That looks like a great addition for a community. Peaceful I would bet.
Looks like yet another cool place to hang out and forget your troubles.
Bill...
A great place to go and just think!
