"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)
It's Memorial Day, 2008, and it is a day of honoring those that have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our way of life.
We moan and groan about our "hard day's work" in real estate, but our trials pale in comparison to the suffering that our brave men and women of the armed forces have endured over the centuries.
It's also a day to remember that families that have lost a dear one to the cause of freedom. They live with that loss every day of their lives, and we must let them know that we support them both in spirit and in measurable, demonstrative ways.
Let's pledge to improve benefits for those that have served so well, and to take care of the families of those that have paid the highest price. It is our duty, and our honor, to dignify their efforts with our resources.
God bless America!

Execellent post, Richard. We must never forget - ever. They are all heroes in my eyes.
I thank God for those who stand in harm's way to protect our country. Great Post!
Heros are people just like you and I that stand in place for us in a time of service. We must stand for them in a time of remembrance where they cannot be there to stand. Thank you for the post.
Richard, Edmund Burke had it right and still has it right. We need to stand up and be counted as someone who is behind those in military service to our country. Have a memorable Memorial Day another great post!

It's so easy to forget "after the fact." Thanks for the support!
Thanx for the post. Thank you, to those who are serving and who have served. They have made it possible for this country to be what it is today!

Yes, this one hits home, thanks again my friend!
Heath...
I couldn't have said it any better myself! Thanks.
Thanks for posting, Richard, Burke had it right, Churchill had it right, Reagen had it right (and many others).
But let's not leave the remembering today. Remember those who serve and honor those who have served every day.
Mike...
Excellent point ...I would like to see more federal money spent on veterans, Lord knows they've earned it, and it our best way of thanking them for their service!
Great post ~
As we remember our troops this Memorial Day, let us not forget everyday to thank a veteran and their sacrifice for our country.
Ther have been a lot of good p[osts this weekend and this is one of them
Great Post, Thanks for the information. Keep up the great blogs. I enjoyed reading your blog.
Nicholas...
Excellent reminder. I have always made it a point, upon discovering that a person I meet is a veteran, of saying: thank you for serving our country!" Thanks.
Charlie...
Thanks, my friend.
Jerry...
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it very much.
Richard ~ I have met active servicemen and woem this year in Key West and did just the same. We agree on this one, thank a veteran anytime you can! God Bless
We teach our kids to thank vets and anyone in a military uniform. May God bless anyone that has served.
You hit it right on the head. Some people do miss the point. It's a time of reflection to rememeber ALL who've sacrificed for us.
Nicholas...
And I always will, thanks again my friend.
Kevin..
Excellent point! This is something that needs to be inculcated in our youth! Thank you for bringing that up!
Robert...
There have been so many that did the job because it was the right thing to do. God bless them, Thanks.
Richard, I did not have what it takes to be in the military. Sometimes I wish I had served but back in the early 70s it was just not on the top of my list of things to do. My Grand father however was a career Navy man. He spent the last 20 years of his life flat on his back from the damage he incurred while serving our country. He never regretted a minute of it.
Both of our twin boys became Marines right after high school. One is still in after 13 years and is a career Marine. We are very proud of both of them.
Great post Richard, I have received many great reminders for what this weekend is truly about and yours tops the list Thank you!
Excellent post Richard. This is my first memorial day as an American Citizen and although I don't really feel all that different to last year, I am very aware of those who gave everything and of those who are willing to do so on a daily basis.
Broker Bryant...
Will you please thanks them for their service and pass along a big "Semper FI" from the crowd at ActiveRain. Thanks for the comment too!
Lori...
I appreciate, as always, the kind remarks!
Simon...
It is indeed something every "citizen" should keep in mind! Thanks for your nice comment.
There a many to hold in high reguard on this day. To many have been forgotten because of the "Holiday" spirit!
Richard - We have so much to be thankful for. When I sit in a public diner every saturday morning for a prayer breakfast and we pray openly I know I have a vet to thank for the right And God of Course.
Bill...
We can easily be caught up in the long weekend revelries, but we should remember what the day is about!
Hugh...
Small freedoms come at a high cost! Thanks for adding to the conversation!
Richard - Great post. I've been thinking about my dad all day - he passed a couple of years ago. He was a submarine navigator in WWII on the PonPon and served again in Korea. It was not until he was in his late 70's that he began talking openly about some of his experiences. I don't think those of us never there can comprehend those who were and are. My heart felt thanks to each one.
Heather...
My dad was a tail gunner in a B-29. I never thought much about it until I saw one (B-29) at an air show. You had to be a skinny little guy to squeeze into that tiny and vulnerable place.
My condolences to you, and my thanks to your dad. He was a big part of what makes America great!
This is a very good post. Memorial Day is a day of reflection on just how lucky we are to have those who served for us. I am proud to be an American!!!
I love the title and the quote. We should never forget this.
Mel...
As am I ... some days I wish I could just tell the world how grateful I am to live in the greatest country in the world!
Ricki...
It's one of my favorite quotes. I bring it to mind when I have to stand up for something!
They already know! That is why many people are trying desperately to get here and others are full of jealousy.
Richard, excellent ThemThem tribute to our men and women in the service past and present. Thank you for sharing with the Group.
