In an unprecedented move, Microsoft has stopped supporting FrontPage, a software program used by many developers for over nine years. While it's true that many of it's features were archaic and old-fashioned, it also had many features that set it apart, not the least of which is the ability to open a site live on a server and edit a page "on the fly!"
But no more. Not only did Microsoftpull support for the end users of the product, it has also demanded that the FrontPage extensions be removed from servers. And at that point, the product ceases to work at all.
Imagine, a program that you bought and paid foris just turned off. That's right, it has become unusable. Although I am certain that somewhere in the licencing agreement it has the right to do so, it is a marketing debacle.
Does Microsoft think that I will ever buy another product that can arbitrarily be turned off on orders from Redmond? I think not.
No, I 'll get over this with another product from another company. I have supported Microsoft and its products for 20 years now, but I think that I will try to find another company that has the best interests of its customers in mind. After all, that's what I do. Why should I expect less from anyone else?

Can you spell 'M O N O P O L Y ? " I have used every version of it and still prefer to use it. This is a classic example of Microsoft Monopoly - Predetermined obsolescance. The same way XP is slated to go unsupported shortly as MS rolls out its latest loser VISTA! Remember Windows ME?????? What a peice of crap that was! I will continue to use the progams until they no longer function, and then I will find something else that is not MS!

Thanks for your comments, it isn't a big deal unless you depend on it!

I have depended on this product since day one. I love the ease of modifying many pages at once, universal search and replace and the ability to work directly on the server. Now I can't even open the sites up! I'm more than annoyed, I'm mad as h-e-double hockey sticks! Thanks for your reiteration that we should be looking elsewhere for products!

I am looking into Dream Weaver, it's price and I'm wondering how hard it will be to convert thousands of web pages. While I'm at t, I may as well get the whole Adobe Suite! Serves MS right!
Thanks for you comment!

Believe it or not, Mr. Gates is one of my heroes, and that's another reason I am so disappointed in Microsoft. I have been preaching MS gospel for a long, long time, but now I feel like I've been stabbed in the back! Thanks for your comment!

I feel for you. I have never used Front Page but know a lot of people who do. I can not believe they can just cut it off just like that.
So typical of Microsoft. I have been using Front Page for a while as I do a political web site in my spare time. MS keeps putting out defective products and we keep buying...cuz we don't have much choice. If MS made cars Congress would be all over them to get it right.

It really is a shame!

Yes, why are some things more important than others? I feel obligated to my customers long after I get my paycheck, why can't MS do the same?
