Self promotion has always played a big role is the successful real estate agent’s business model.
After all, a real estate agent has to find a job each and every day. And while one could send out resumes to each and every prospective client, it’s much more effective to get out there in front of the public and “show them what you’ve got!”
Regardless of your skill and proficiency, you can’t sell yourself without an audience! And in today’s fast moving, low attention span, “I want in now” marketplace you may only have a few minutes to audition.
Fortunately technology affords us the opportunity to “strut our stuff,“ but it’s up to us to demonstrate that our “stuff” is worthy of the onlookers attention.
As the profession evolves, we become more and more deeply entrenched in self promotion. Video, slide shows, blogging, tutorials and local information vie for consumer’s notice.
Is selling real estate “Show Business?”
You better believe that it is!

Good morning, Richard....it's always "showtime" in real estate, and quite often there's no time for a dress rehearsal....
Learn to love the bright lights, or else...
Hi Richard... I love your post.. hope tons of agents read it and follow it.. - Beth
Yes sir... You bet it is and some days I feel like I've been on stage all day long!
Richard,
As I get older, and look around at what's going on in the world, I realize that almost everything is "showmanship" to one degree or another.
Rich
Great post as I firmly believe it is showtime and if you don't make it happen no one will.
Barbara...
Lol, yes indeed, we do improvise a lot, don't we? Thanks my friend.
Doug...
This is NOT the business for the timid, is it? Thanks.
Beth...
That is ALWAYS my hope! THX.
John...
It's not the matinees ... it's those late night shows that really wear you out. Thanks.
Rich...
Except being a hermit. That is, unless you want everyone to know that you are being a hermit! Thanks
John...
And there are plenty of others on the playbill! Thanks.
I am on stage each and every day when I step outside my door. Show Time Action!
Ah, but what genre of show business? Hopefully, it is not vaudeville! I think I would rather be something a little more substantive.
Yes, I often feel like the director in All That Jazz, as I jump in the shower, try to wash the fatigue from my face. Comb my hair, take all my morning meds to keep everything in working condition, drink my banana and SlimFast blended shake for energy, dress for work. One last look in the mirror to make sure I didn't forget anything essential and "it's showtime". Another day, another dollar.....I hope.
Real estate is most definitely show business, with standing ovations, curtain calls and hopefully sequels.
That's one way to look at it.
I married a gal who was an actress. If I wanted to be on stage, I could have followed in her footsteps.
Life is a challange, but to feel that you are on stage all of the time, ??????????????????
Not my cup of tea.
RJ
Hi Richard,
It's SHOWTIME!!!!! You certainly have a way with words......... let's do it.
I like to think of it as a documentary, and not a science fiction story. Most of the public will see the difference.
Hi Richard...
Well you certainly have been strutting yourself every day for several years!
Keep up the good work!
Ken
