In any business endeavor, effective marketing is the key to success. And there are many theories as to what makes marketing effective.
Remember all of those screaming commercials on TV? You know, the ones with the shrieking so loud that it made you change the channel?
Can you remember the product or service that was being offered in those spots?
Gimmickry has been around as long as there was something to sell. Experienced marketers will tell you that you have to have a “hook” in order to snag potential customers.
In the housing industry, most gimmicks revolve around financing. “Special” financing, “lower” down payments or “first-time” buyer incentives.
And while some of these offering are legitimate, all too often the over-zealous marketing guru devises some out of the box gimmick to get the phone to ring.
As for myself, I like plain talk and simple solutions.
And I’ll leave the gimmicks to the carnival!

Hi Richard,
I agree with the product having to have a hook. There are some commercials out there that are really cute and stand out, but do I know the product?? No! What's the point? I am like you, tell it to me straight and I'll do the same.
Richard - While I am a fan of "Good" marketing, I agree with you. Plain talk and simple solutions are always the best answer.
Great post as usual Richard. Effective marketing is what sells a product not what gets you to remember the advertisement.
Richard ~ Effective marketing, doesn't want us to change the channel or mute the T.V., annoying commercials do. Having a product and the means to aquire it, while keeping us interested is essential. I hate it, when the "Catch" of the gimmick is in a size 10 font, at the bottom of the screen, as part of their disclaimer.
Marketing should be a reflection of you and how you conduct your business.
Some of those gimmicks are enough to give you indigestion like a corn dog at a carnival
Richard - I'm not into gimmicks or lies. I'm more just matter of fact, to the point kind of guy, person and Realtor®. It's just my style, it is what it is and that's the facts. Now to make my first suggest of the day on this post. Fact :)
It was crazy eddie whose prices were INSANE But hey I am a weath of trivia good post Richard
A gimick may get you noticed, but if there is no substance behind it...you will lose in thelong run.
Finding what WORKS and what is EFFECTIVE is another key to remaining successful in this business....
I'm with you Richard. No gimmicks here just good ole fashioned service with integrity and honesty.
Those curly fries and corn dogs might be just the right gimmicky hook we are all looking for. Is that the open house menu?
