O’ take me to my mountains
Where crystal rivers flow
And tumble past electric leaves
That emit October’s glow.
Sweet smells of Fall’s disrobing
Awaiting Winter’s blasts
'Tis nature's hued full glory
That merely weeks will last.
(R Weisser 2011)
The fall leaf season is my favorite time of year. There is something exquisitely exciting about the finite nature of the season.
One cannot put off leaf-gazing as every day more and more tie-dyed tree feathers are dislodged by the first wafts of Winter’s onset and flitter to the earth.
So there is a sense of urgency that compels one to savor every second of the season until it is extinguished.
A photograph cannot capture the aromas of fallen leaves or the sounds of the wind rustling in the tree-tops. But we continually try in vain to successfully capture the splendor of the season.
Enjoy it while it lasts. It will soon be gone!

Rich....I love it. I"m going to go outside and take pictures as well! Awesome!
Richard, thank you for this post. You are so right - we get so wrapped up with our daily chores we forget to enjoy the beauty of the nature surrounding us. I will be gazing at the trees in my neighborhood each day, until the leaves are all gone. I love your photos - you live in amazingly beautiful part of the country.
What a perfect poem you truly are talented. Love the pictures and this is a wonderful time of year to enjoy the splash of colors, cooler days and glimpse of the holiday season arriving. Blink, it's over.
Richard, It's happening fast here! Was just looking out at our cat pen, and the deer netting across the top has a near solid coating of leaves. Time to break out the leaf blower and clear them off this afternoon :)
Larry...
I hope that you grab some great shots! Thanks so much.
Elizabeth...
Newnan GA is actually on the Piedmont, but the mountains are just a few hours away. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is like a second home to me, and I go there as often as I can! Thanks for the nice comment.
Hi Connie...
Thak you so much for the kind words. And although I have thousands of fall pics, I always want more. It is incredibly exciting and invigorating!
WE had a very short leaf season this year. I don't know if it was the dryness or what the reason was.
Hi Richard -
You nailed it we must enjoy the turning trees while we can. I need to grab the camera and get some shots today of the brilliant Cottonwood Trees in golden glow.
Best regards from The Q
Hi Richard, Fall is my favorite time of year too! We are not quite there yet with the fall colors but it's coming. You took awesome shots!
Richard....The Fall has mixed emotions for me. True, the colors are incredible and make you turn your head. But it also reminds me of the cold annd sometimes bleak winter season that is around the corner. A time often slow in real estate and in another business I have.
It won'be be long and I'll be asking for Spring.
I say this all the time....love this time of year but hate how quickly it comes and goes...leaves falling fast already!
Maybe I'll take a leisurely drive out to see the foliage this beautiful Sunday. I've got no clients and the household chores can certainly wait.
Beautiful photos Richard, We live in the high desert so fall's effects have yet to be seen here. I remember visiting my Aunt in Lithonia during this time and we'd head to the mountains to see the changing of the leaves, always a memorable time!
Richard, excellent poetry, and beautiful photos! Thanx for sharing your thoughts on the season, have a lovely day!
Bill S...
Oh, you did have to mention the 'bad" part, didn't you? ;) and thx
Bill F...
Over already>? Wow, that's TOO fast. Thanks.
John...
Yes, do that before you do anything else! Thanks.
Jackie...
Not quite in Newnan either, but the mountains are turning! Thanks.
Hi Richard,
I always want to slow down when I see beautiful fall colors outside my window... That is one of my favorite seasons...
Thanks for sharing your photos.
Richard, you have so many gifts...photography and not poetry. I also love the fall--the weather, the changing trees and sitting around a campfire on a cool, crisp evening.
