Last Wednesday, I attended a training event in Atlanta hosted by ActiveRain. I took plenty of documentary photos of the event and the attendees, but I also always keep an eye open for something a little different that might make an interesting shot.
Some shots are obvious, and some happen by accident, but big cities are often studies in geometry and symmetry.
Now that we live in the digital age that no longer penalizes the photographer for taking a bad picture with any expense whatsoever, there is no reason NOT to take test shots for evaluation.
Some of my most interesting photos are taken outside the confinement of a formal shooting session.
All of these photos were taken at the “W” hotel in Midtown Atlanta
And I like the way they turned out!

Hi Richard...I like them as well, especially the top one. I believe we notice so much more when we have a camera in our hands.
Kate
Richard....very different....I like them too.....especially the ornaments.
Great photos! Very creative.
Richard, To quote your words..." And I like the way they turned out!"
Margaret
Richard, well done! I love them all. But then again, you are one of my most favorite photographers!
I like the way they turned out, too. The first shot in particular.
I love them all but my favorite is the holiday decorations.. I love sparkle!!
I wish I had taken a walk in Philly when at RainCamp, and shot some good photos .... Yours are awesome!
I am sorry Richard...but you could take a picture of a pure white snow bank and it would be something I would never be able to duplicate! LOL Some have it...and some of us just need a drink!
Richard, it was great to meet the man behind the photos and I would have to echo William's comment.
Presenting the mundane in a compelling and interesting manner is one of the hallmarks of a good photographer. Often its the hidden compositions within everyday things that make people stop and say, "Wow, that's fantastic, I never saw it that way!" Nice post.
Pretty awesome photos Richard. I think you could do well doing photography for a living should you ever want to.
Richard:
I also take full advantage of the digital age by snapping away. One of the shots is bound to turn out well - right?
The photos in this post are fabulous. How did you get that last one? Never mind, I would not even begin to understand how to do it.
Very nice post.
Very Nice!
Hi Richard, Beautifully done. These photos are indeed " outside" any sense of confinement.
You are so great with all your photos. I can keep BOTH eyes open and do not see it.
