Many Great Smoky Mountains National Park visitors spend at least part of their vacation in Gatlinburg Tennessee. Gatlinburg is an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, lodging and entertainment establishments.
The city enjoys a symbiotic relationship with the national park as it provides accommodations and meals for millions of tourists every year. This reduces the environmental impact on the park itself.
Since most businesses in town remain open until 11:00 P.M. there is a noticeable chill in the October air as the annual pilgrimage of leaf-lookers make their last walk up the neon-lit strip and head for their hotel rooms or rental cabins.
After over seventy years of welcoming part-time mountaineers, Gatlinburg has become a fall rite of passage for many visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

True, the prob is the traffic! Oye Veh!!!
Richard,
I haven't been to the Great Smokies since I was a kid. Still one of the best looking places I've seen in all the U S.
Those are fantastic photos, Richard! I love the photo of the city in the valley, lit up against the nighttime mountains. Beautiful!
Been there - Done that. I agree with Michael... BUT, Everyone should do it once..... Then head for the Blue Ridge Parkway. Thanks for the memories.
Beautiful photos Richard...........makes me think about travel!
Richard....great new photo's. I am glad to hear that you took a few days off to clear the mind.
Richard, I love your night shot of the town lit up while nestled in the mountains. Very stunning.
Great photos. One of the most special times was Christmas 2005 which my wife and I spent in Gatlinburg. Woke up Christmas morning to a light snowfall. Really special!
Really want to go back and visit again some time soon.
I love the picture of the moon and Venus? In any case that is beautiful.... I but I am not an advocate of neon lights or any lights at night. I destroys the beauty that the night has to offer. I should post about this. hmmm.
The Smokies are indeed one of our national treasures to be enjoyed by many. It's been quite a while since I have been there but I remember it well.
Beautiful photos Richard, when I link of Gatlinburg Tennessee I think of country music.... Have a nice Sunday. Pack plays at 5pm central, go Pack go. BUT, I am not sure who to root for - Vikes and Brett - although he's been a disappointment lately, or the green a gold....
