Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

When the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak…

Little Cataloochee Church in the Great Smoky Mountains National ParkI’ve had a little bug for the last week or so that has really slowed my down. And although I have attempted a medical solution, apparently this malady has to “run its course.”

And since I haven’t been operating at 100%, I’ve had a little more time to think, and reflect, and to look towards the future.

After all, I’m no spring chicken. And my overall health is only going to deteriorate as I get older. It’s strange to think of myself as not jest “getting older,” but just “getting old.”

It’s strange because on the inside, I still fell like a thirty-something lad full of vigor and stamina.

But these days, my “quintessence of dust” is less responsive to my youthful impulses. I have to set more and more limits on what I am able to physically perform.

Life is a wondrous mystery, and we only understand it after we’ve live through it!

And that’s what makes every day worth living!

Richard, We all have to make concessions.  We do occasionally hire people to do what we'd have done in the past, or spread out that intensive manual labor project over more days, rather than a Saturday marathon of work.

It's always good to stop and look forward. Hope you feel better.

An older and wider fella in our church always likes to say, "Gettin old ain't for sissy's!"

I agree!

You can't help getting old, but you can stay in shape. When you get sick, being older doesn't help and the recovery period is tougher. None-the-less, it's your attitude that will carry you above all of that.

The only time I'm reminded of my age is when I try to move. My mind doesn't know how old I am, but my body sure does.

Richard - Sometimes it's difficult to listen to our body's signals telling us to slow down and take it easy....especially when our mind is saying "Let's go CRAZY!"  Hope you feel better soon!

Val !  hahahahaha that was too funny.. "The only time I'm reminded of my age is when I try to move.

Richard I too am getting olderand feel like Thirty-Something. Not full of not piss and vinegar but something similar. I hate getting older, however, there are some good things in getting older that I hope out weigh the bad things about getting older.

Coming to you from Texas,,,

Richard, hope you are feeling better, I am enjoying the changes that have been coming my way, life is a journey and we need to understand the positive parts of our "stages" in life, still it would be nice to get up out of a chair and not make a hundred noises....

I commend you...you accept the fact but........

Some days I wake up and feel like I can do anything. Other days, I wake up and feel like I'm an 80 year old man. Today, I'm somewhere in between! Ahh, such is life. Feel better Richard.

Richard...I use to split wood for hours and wake up the next day with no ill effects, those days are behind me, I told my wife the other day...the best I feel all day is when I'm going off to bed.

I understand how you feel my friend.

It sucks that youth is wasted on the young.

Richard..I know the feeling.  Your photo reminds me of my last Dr. appt.  I was looking out of the clinic window, there is a cemetary next door.  When the Dr. came in and asked how I was, I told her I was just looking at my next home.  He replied..."Well, let's hope that is after you leave the office here."

Hope you feel better soon! Getting older is no fun and it has been difficult to consider limitations.  However, I refuse to give in till I have to!  Let's keep fighting!!

I have always wondered where the phrase "spring chicken" came from! The little bug is your body's way of saying "slow down!" And when you are ready - off to the races at full speed!

Hi Richard, I am new to ActiveRain and found this group particularly inspiring.  May it buoy you to know that you have moved me to take a walk today - something that I've been meaning to do.

Just last week I attended a training session that was SO terrific and loved the trainer's observation in reminding us to take time to take care of our physical self - "if you don't, where will you live?"

I hope you are feeling better - happy to have crossed paths...I'm off to put on my walking shoes!
