The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited park in the United States, That’s because over 2/3 if the country’s population live within a day’s drive from the park boundaries.
Summer visitors often take advantage of cooler temperatures in the higher elevations. The Balsam Mountain Campground is the highest in the park and at over 5000 feet in elevation provides pleasant sleeping conditions during the hot months.
And of course, one can wade in an icy cold mountain stream that will chatter the teeth and offset the blazing southern sun! Be please be careful while you are in the water, because the rocks can be slippery and water levels can change suddenly.

Today, I was in 90 degree heat and high humidity - I could have used the cool waters of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. It looks absolutely lovely.

The Smoky mountains are very nice. I have friends and neighbors who go there quite a bit. At my age the beach just doesn't do much for me any more, but the cool mountains, now we are talking.
I need to plan another trip to the Smokies. It has been a few years...
How great is that to be able to zip over to somewhere like the Smokies after these swealtering days? We could feel the cool waters gliding over our toes from your description Richard.

I remember flying from NJ to Atlanta GA in a rented Cessna, and when I got to the Smokies, I came down to about 1,000 feet, and followed them for hours. Thanks for the photos.
