Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

Getting in the right frame of mind is essential when facing obstacles.

Getting into the right frame of mindSometimes, when we are pitted against seemingly insurmountable odds, the notion of surrender appears to offer that path of least resistance.

After all, nobody wants to beat their heads against the wall indefinitely without the possibility of a payoff at some point down the road.

And it is very easy to get in "too deep" and before you know it you are flailing and thrashing and just trying to stay afloat. But at that point, you are not getting anyplace; you are just "there!"

It's so much better to step back, take a deep breath, and get in the correct frame of mind before proceeding. Often there is a reasonable solution that has been overlooked.

And sometimes, the best solution is to come to the realization that further efforts are futile, and that it really is best t walk away.

It is not a sign of weakness to give up when there is no chance of success

Instead, it is a demonstration of strength.

Good morning Richard,

Excellent message. Sometimes it is best to cut your losses and move on!

Absolutely!  It isn't always possible to "win" or "fix" every situation...no matter how hard we work or how hard we try.  And sometimes the best solution is not necessarily the one we want.  ;-)

Well said Richard.  Frame of mind and attitude are powerful tools indeed.

OR, sleep on it.

I have always found that 24 hours can completely change our outlook and the circumstances that precipated it.

Stepping back from the emotional impact of the moment, and looking at a problem from a different angle will almost always give one a new insight. Some problems can be solved and some will show you where else you should be headed.

Richard, this post is a great way to start off my day!  Thank you.

There is the possibility of enlisting another pair of eyes and stop trying to solve the problem by yourself.

I do agree tho sometimes you just have to walk away.

Great post and responses...I like Lenn's approach to sleep on it!    Yesterday in a class I was taking he advocates to not take calls until after lead generation ....his opionion is that nothing can not wait til noon to be answered...and that sometimes that time will solve some problems!!  Interesting approach anyways!

Sometimes you just need to know when to move on and cut your losses before they become too great to handle.

Great post Richard and your are right....sometimes I find my self dealing way too long on the problem and it's best to allow "X" amount of time and them move on!

Coming to you from Texas...

I agree with that!  Stepping back and collecting yourself is no important in our business.  Things can get very complicated when you do not.

So true...  so true.  If we are all grumpy, it makes everything we do just a bit harder...

Richard, I firmly believe a victory can come when you surrender. Not all battles are worth fighting the key is to know when to pick your fights or back down before they get out of hand.

Richard, I hate giving up.  I sometimes keep going when giving up was the absolutely prudent thing to do and I just wouldn't see it.  I don't think you are suggesting we just "give up" when the going gets tough but in knowing when to move on.  I heard a quote that goes something like, "when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging."

I hope you're not trying to tell us you'll be leaving us =(  Although, you have hit the nail on the head with this point!

The hardest obstacles I run into at times are certain clients.  I find clients who are lawyers tend to be a real drag.  They ask more question than any one else.  Has to be the way they are wired.

Richard:

Although our first impulse may be to charge through like a bull in a china shop, often the best thing to do is to quietly walk away for awhile and give it some thought.

Richard, it goes along with knowing when to say no.  Some things are just not worth the effort and agata that it takes.

Interesting spin. Could be that the reality of the situation brings us to our senses...
