My father was truly a man of his time. He was a WWII veteran that married after the war, moved to the suburbs, and raised a family of ten kids as the sole provider.
For many of those years, dad worked out of the house. He had a drafting room downstairs in the basement where he created incredible drawings by hand.
He had a unique niche that kept him busy. He drew HVAC layouts for large industrial mills, particularly steel mills. He could hand letter with the precision of a computer, and every dimension had to be verified manually.
My dad and I shared a love for photography. When I married and moved to Georgia, any trip back home involved a photo expedition with my father. Looking back I realize that this was the only time that I had dad “all to myself.”
Whenever I take a photograph to this very day, I think of my father, I still want to make him proud of me and my craft. And I’m pretty sure that he would be thrilled to see what I have produced.
Dad didn’t live to see the age of the digital photograph. Which is just as well, because although his caches of transparencies are fading, the memories of the photography jaunts are not.
After all, he was a man of his time!
Happy Father's Day to all of the dads reading this!

Your father was ahead of his time....not many home offices then ! Happy Father's Day !
What a wonerful tribute to your father, he must have been a terrific man.
Great tribute.."A man of his time!" And he still lives in what you produce - even on AR!
Sally...
Very true ... but he was forced into it when his company closed and he needed to work. I guess that says even more about the man, as he was able to start a business from scratch when the need arose. Thanks so much for the comment and Happy Father's Day to David!
Beth...
He was indeed. Thanks so much.
Richard....what a wonderful tribute to your father...and you look just like your dad.....he was a very handsome man.
Thanks for sharing your memories and your tribute. Have a special day.
Wonderful tribute to your father, Richard. I'll bet those photo expeditions with your dad are something that you cherish and remember every time you take a picture.
Richard,
Great tribute. What did your Dad fly? Mine was a mechanical engineer and designed industrial layouts also...in those days of slide rule, measuring tape and transit. What a generation they were. I am sure he is proud.
Richard...Nice tribute to your Father.
I am sure he is looking down at your photo's and saying..."That's my Boy!"
Richard, how great that he had the "home office" concept back then, WWII vet moves to the suburbs and raises a family, right out of my own history, have a great fathers day Richard
That was a very nice tribute to your Dad. Mine was a professional photographer and our family owned our own camera store. I have been photogrpahed as his model since I was born, no wonder I shy away from cameras now.
But you gave me some sweet memories of him and I miss him so much.
Happy Father's Day to you Richard.
Happy Father's Day, Richard.
I know your Dad would be proud.
There is no doubt that your photography talents would definitely have your father smiling and leave him puffed with pride.
Richard, It is funny what memories we have of the men that raised us, my alone time was usually getting a golf lesson. My never got very good but cherished those times none the less.
Happy Father's Day Richard. A very nice tribute to your Dad, you look a lot like him and holy smokes! I think he would be amazed at your photography skills! Enjoy your day.

What a fabulous photo of your father - and a handsome man he was. He would certainly have been proud of your accomplishments with photography. Anyone would.
