Photography: Maximizing the effect by minimizing the color palette!

Black over white by Richard WeisserDrama in photography can often be heightened by limiting the numbers of colors in the overall palette of the composition.

Reducing the sensory input generated by the color attribute can force the brain to cogitate more intently on other more linear qualities such as form.

Images are a very powerful mode of communication that can transmit large amounts of complex information nearly instantaneously.

The impact of that message can be elevated by accentuating the most significant elements of the subject matter.

It has been said that “less is more.”  That tenet can truly be applied when creating images!

Beautiful, Richard!  I agree with you, less is more - at least in this case.

Unfortunately when I try it, less is really just less my friend. Love all the pictures my friend, I have missed seeing them.

Richard -

All great shots.  Each proves your point:  the eye is taken to the depth of picture.

Neat pictures Richard. Taking great photos is an art that, like all talents need to be stropped to a keen edge...

Beautiful photos Richard! I still love black and white photography. That is what I started out learning in school. Wedding photos are perfect for that. B&W lets you see the emotions in the subjects better.

Say What?!  I don't think I know where the button on my camera is that eliminates color.  I think I will just go fishing!

These shots are gorgeous. I especially love the mountainous one. It looks like a spot in West Virginia where I've done some vacationing...I don't have mountains where I live now, and I do miss them!

Richard, you really got my attention with these photographs.  The more I looked at them...saw them...I realized you are no ordinary shutter bug.  I checked out your profile and found out about your involvement with the Great Smoky Mountains and the commission by the Bush administration.  Not that it means much coming from me, but I'm impressed and I do know talent.

Beautiful shots, Richard! And I like that you also change the color of your watermark to match the photo and not distract away from the overall image.
