Here’s an interesting trivia question: What is the only word in the English Language to have five consecutive vowels in it?
Give up? The answer is “queueing.” As a noun, a queue is a line. We stand and wait patiently in a queue at an amusement park or a fast food restaurant. "Queueing up” simply means get in line and wait.
So you can imagine my dismay yesterday when I called to inquire about the progress of a short sale offer I had submitted and I was told that it was “in the queue.”
That’s a very polite way of saying that nothing has happened yet, and that probably no one has even looked at the file. It is stagnating in a database somewhere, with perhaps hundreds or even thousands of similar hardship cases chronologically preceding it.
It is nerve-wracking to see a home listed in the foreclosure notices with the only potential relief offered is a possible last minute postponement of the announced sale on the courthouse steps.
But at least we are in the queue. So now we wait, And watch the calendar.
Note: BTW an alternative spelling is "queuing," that's what makes it a good trivia question!

Short sales are often like a box of chocolates, unfortunately!
Richard....it's like being in the army....hurry up and wait!!!
Totally agree with you on the short sale translation of being in the queue. The volume is staggering. However on the bright side, they have your file and have not lost it yet! What is ashame is each file is a family that is waiting and hoping for an answer!
Richard, This short sale process reminds me of waiting at the DMV, only to find out you have to start over again because you got in the wrong line to begin with.
I would prefer it be out of the queue and ready for someone's signature....
William...
So true. Thanks....
Barbara...
Exactly. Thanks so much.
D & D...
"Not lost it yet!" I like that. Thanks.
Interesting trivia..."in the queue" sounds like a good excuse. Next!
Interesting little trivia fact, Richard. I like William's description of short sales being like a box of chocolates.
Steve, as he so often does, stole my thunder! The short sale wait and see game is such a disaster for everyone involved. The sellers don't know what's going to happen. The buyers have to wait an eternity to get an answer. And all the while, the foreclosure clock is ticking.
Isn't it fun Richard. Nobody seems to care that the system doesn't work, it hurts everybody involved including the bank, but they just don't care. Hang in there...
As long as the short sale queue moves faster than the auction queue you are doing well.
Richard, I will be waiting in line while I am sitting in my Boat!
Indeed. I was contacted by a lender yesterday seeking information about local buyer incentive programs, i.e., grants and loans for down payment/closing. Funny a lender should be going to a real estate broker for that info. You'd think. . . . .
Anyway, she said that her staff in Frederick County was about 210 persons. GEEZ! "I hope they are processing Short Sales", I said in an attempt to inject some humor in the conversation.
Her answer was, "Yes!"
I don't believe she got the humor.
If only the lenders could call Disney to see how to make the waiting in line enjoyable.
Richard: The dreaded queue. I feel for you. If you're me, you have a meltdown on the phone and the negotiator calls you back within 24 hours and says, "What's it going to take to get you to stop upsetting my staff." Too bad it has to get to that point to get someone's attention.
Sometimes it simply feels like a black hole...LOL @ Chris Ann, above, though, because yes, sometimes it takes drastic measures to get their attention. And that's just sad.
Richard, Hearing that you are in the "queue" on a short sale, could potentially mean that you are lost in never never land for who knows how long. That's not very promising information to receive is it? It is incredibly frustrating for us, trying to help these owners BEFORE their property goes to foreclosure, in a world where the process can just drag on for an eternity!
In response to Diane, remember Disney created a Fastpass. Wouldn't it be great if lenders would do that?
Good evening Richard,
The trials and tribulations you go through for real estate! You make me feel so blessed with the market we have..you have some patience and I admire your tenacity!
It seems as though the banks are starting to talk a whole new language. It is a shame that they just can't come out and tell the truth.
Huh, and I thought that was an English word!. I am right behind you in a short sale queue, so if you would please move over and let me get ahead!
Ever wonder if it's worth even making an offer on a short sale? It would have to be at a big discount to wait and wait and wait.
Too many files, not enough staff. You would think banks would hire temps.
