Every Spring, golfing greats from all over the world gather in Augusta Georgia to participate in the tournament founded by the great Bobby Jones Clifford Roberts in 1934.
The event was to be by invitation only, and was originally name the August National Invitation Golf Tournament until the name was changed to The Masters in 1939.
A golfer must earn an invitation to play in The Masters, and it is considered the premiere golf event of the year. It is the only major golf championship played on the same course year after year, and there is a mystique that permeates the event unlike no other.
It’s hard for a player to get an invitation to play at Augusta in the Tournament. It is equally hard for a fan of golf to get a ticket to the event. Tickets to the Masters are a precious commodity, allocated to a select group of fans that have had the first right of refusal for years.
The last waiting list for tickets was in the year 2000, and it closed quickly. There are simply no ticket sales to the general public.
As a matter of fact, it is not uncommon for Masters tickets to be included in wills to be bequeathed to lucky heirs.
Sunday is the toughest day of all. That is the day when the coveted green jacket will be awarded to the golfer that has conquered both the Augusta National Golf Course, and all of the other competitors vying for the honor. A Sunday ticket is nearly impossible to obtain.
So today I’ll watch the conclusion of the match on television just as I do every year. And I’ll keep hoping that maybe one day I’ll be “invited” to this rite of Spring.
Because I really would like to experience it firsthand… at least once in my lifetime!

Richard: I am sure that the Masters is an awesome event. It sounds like getting tickets to the Masters is about as tough as getting the rights to buying a season ticket at Cowboys Stadium. Pretty much impossible.
By the way... I was watching the Masters on the tube yesterday... when Tiger teed off on the sixth hole... a short par three. He miss-hit the ball... and screamed out... "Tiger Woods... you suck !" The words charged out of his mouth... and straight into a network boom microphone... for all to hear, which we did. He followed it with a few more words I cannot print here. He was not a happy camper... but for me, it was the funniest thing I had seen all day !
Richard: My wife and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary a few years back with a trip to the Masters. We paid through the nose for the tickets we got (even on a Wednesday practice round .. which was alot of fun, btw), but it was worth every penny we spent. Even my wife that doesn't play a lick of golf thought so. So don't hold back or hesitate to go ... it's the most amazing event we have ever seen or been a part of. Truly a historical and breathtaking place to watch the world's best.

Richard.....I can't wait to see the final round today.....enjoy it.....
I come from a family of avid golfers, my dad took me out one time to play, after a few holes he dumped me back at the pool. They never brought up the subject again. I never understood the game anyway.
Any chance of hiding in the bushes with a telescopic lens?
Beer is getting cold in the fridge. Should be an outstanding afternoon.
Wishing you continued success.
I wouldn't have guessed that tickets to the Masters was the hardest ticket to get. But, like you, I'll be tuning in on the TV to see how it turns out. this Masters has been filled with great storylines.
How about "Lefty's eagle shot from 150 yards out yesterday? Amazing!
Richard, I had no idea that people bequesthed tickets to the Masters in their wills. Enjoy the day!
Good morning Richard,
The Masters is an event being watchedmore this year than than ever before! I heard about Tiger coming out with what Karen Anne reported! Today will be quite the day to watch..enjoy!!
Imagine a sporting event being that important to be willed to someone, very interesting Richard. No doubt it would be an honour to attend the Masters and feel the emotions first hand! BTW - Titleist might want that pic!
Sound like Redskisn seasons tickets here. I bet it would be awesome to attend a Masters in person. We've been to golf tournaments twice here in DC and the second time it was the Tiger Woods tournament. It's cool to get caught up in the frenzy. We had a great time.
And with Tiger Woods making his "comeback" this year, it's even more impossible. I hope you get the chance someday, I've been to several tournaments (though none even close to the importance of the Masters) and they have been vet enjoyable experiences!
And Redskins tickets, really?
Believe it or not, Redskins season tickets are precious commodities here in the DC area even though they have sucked the last few seasons. There is a decades long waiting list to get them.
I wish to point out that a death of a ticket holder is not transferable to an heir. The rights to the tickets die with the ticket holder. I know a friend that when his mother died he kept sending in money from his mother's estate to get tickets. It worked for two years until he go the letter.
It is a most difficult ticket to obtain. BUT... if you hang late in the afternoon by the gate, you can purchase passes from exiting patrons for that day for a nominal fee.
For those who have never been....There is not a finer groomed piece of land in America. Spectacular.
Put this on your bucket list
I too will be hoping and praying that someday I will be invited to attend. Who knows maybe we will be invited at the same time.
Hi Richard...We were very content to watch terrific golf these past four days from the comfort of our home. We sometimes go to the President's Cup, see lots of great golf, plenty of "stars", and have a good time but when we watch it from home we see so much more. These events are fun no matter how we see them.
Kate
I have heard that these tickets are pretty hard to come by my friend. I have a good friend that goes to the practice rounds each year.
Hopefully you'll have a ticket next year. It was quite the tournament this year. Congrats Phil. (Watched it on TV also)
