Lately I have been using FaceBook to search for old friends and acquaintances that I knew many years ago.
And when I say OLD friends, I really mean it literally! I have reunited with some of the “kids” from the old neighborhood in which I was raised. A few that I have not seen in nearly fifty years!
And so it has become increasingly apparent that somewhere in between playing with toy cars and trucks or wiffle ball in the back yard and today, that entire lifetimes have elapsed. There have been marriages and divorces and children born and in some cases grandchildren and entire episodes of life’s dramas have played through to their culmination!
Their moms and dads that were instrumental in raising us are now very elderly or have passed on. Some of the “kids” are now retired. It’s hard for me to think of them that way.
I guess that at some point comes the realization that even people that we interact with for relatively short periods of our lifespan have a significant impact on who we are and what we are all about. I look back to those days in Imperial Woods with fondness and many happy memories.
And it’s nice to reminisce about the good times with old friends!

Richard,
You have brought back some fond memories by mentioning whiffle ball. Not the same satisfaction playing that on a Wii.
BTW, all my past friends got really old looking :)
Rich
Richard I joined facebook about 10 months ago . One day to my great surprise a person from my highschool contacted me. I had a smile on my face for a week! Your post is on the money my friend
Rich...
And somehow they have been more successful! lol and thanks.
Charlie...
Isn't that awesome? It's really a blast from the past, Thanks, my friend!
Richard, I have done the same with facebook, and have a 30th high school reunion coming up on the first of May, hard to believe many that I will see...I haven't seen since the walk toward the podium for a diploma.
Good morning Richard,
It is good to reminisce! Recently an old classmate got ahold of me and is trying to finally get our class all together and is tracking everyone down. His parents use to own 7 acres where my family went to go pick blueberries every year! I had forgotten the fact it was his parents who owned the land and were friends with my folks! I remember the blueberries because mom always made blueberry pancakes, muffins and pies and they were the best!
Richard.....I guess this is the time for reminiscing....last week I received an email from my roommate at the University of Bridgeport in 1964....she said she's been looking for me....did not know my married name but found my website....it was great to talk again....she's in florida now and has seven grandchildren just as I do....it was great.
Just one of the reasons I love FB. I have been "talking" to some of my college friends that I have neither seen nor spoken with since we graduated. We are trying to make real plans to catch up. Should be lots of fun reminiscing as you did.
Richard - I was apprehensive about going to my 25th high school reunion. I had moved out of the area right after graduating. We were given name tags with our yearbook pictures on them which really helped identifying all those old people. After we started reminiscing, the laughing filled the hall. Then dancing to the music from the late 60's was a contortioning blast. Sometimes you can go home again, even if it's just for a night.
Hi Richard. Glad to hear you are enjoying facebook.
It is nice to reconnect, isn't it?
Ken
Richard...it is fun to visit with old friends, but had to re-start another friendship with as busy as one is.
I find your painting interesting. You painted a snow scene and you rarely have snow. Or you just run ourt of green paint for the grass! ;-}
What a wonderful post. I remember getting up in the morning, getting on my bike and riding with friends all day until the noon whistle blew. We came home for lunch and then we were out again until the street lights came on. We learned lots of lessons durng those days...lessons that we all too often take for granted.
Hi Richard, I got hooked into Facebook by my high school class and it is amazing reconnecting with these folks decades later. Great fun. Enjoy.
I love facebook for that reason. I have reconnected with so many people. I was able to visit with an old family friend who moved away from Jamaica when we teenagers. 20 years later it was amazing to see him again.
Richard -I loved this post. You put the whole "where did the last 50 years go?" thing in such nice perspective. It's amazing how time flies, isn't it? I was just thinking today (while on another LONG road trip) that I still think the way I did all those years ago. I think we're all the same kids, just in older bodies.
My daughter is now in college and I have a hard time remembering when she was younger. Life goes by very fast.
Great post Richard, we are with Rich, how come when you find all the friends from 'back then' they look so old?
Richard- carpe diem.
I like your insight, Rich.
I "found" you, because someone "re-blogged" your post. I have mixed feelings about the re-blogging thing, but finding good bloggers is definitely a positive to come from it.
I subscribed to you. I look forward to more of your insight. Thank you.
Great post here, by the way.
Talk about time flying huh Richard? It's a great thing to find old friends again :)
