Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

When things are out of your control and you can’t do anything about it, you just have to let it go!

First Day of Spring 2010!It is a well known fact that real estate agents are Type “A: personalities, and as a rule, we are control freaks.

And so whenever anything goes awry in the course of our daily business, we always believe that we can fix it and get everything back on the right path.

But in reality, there are many things that are completely out of our control. And that is truer today than ever before, due to the tightening of mortgage regulations and modifications to the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. (RESPA)

It is sometimes very hard to accept the fact that if others are derelict in their obligations, it could hurt innocent third parties and there is not a thing that we can do about it other than rant or rave.

Sometimes it is hard to let it go and walk away. But sometime, you have no other choicer if you want to remain mentally healthy.

And I desperately need to preserve what is left of my sanity!

Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches!

There was a time when "it is out of my control" was more of an excuse but today it rings true even greater. Sometimes you have to punt the ball!

Sometimes we have to just keep out mouths shut too. LOL

We negotiate to the bitter end on every transaciton but when it is over, it is over.

That has always been the case as the rules may have changed the game stayed the same, switch gears and move on!

You are so right, if we have to let it go then it wasn't meant to be.

Good morning Richard,

To preserve your sanity I must agree with Charita's quote..it makes sense!

William...

That is so true. Thanks.

Gary...

Some times, that is exactly what you have to do. THX!

Missy...

That's pretty good advice. Thanks so much.

Richard, all I can say is... ain't that the truth.

Knowing when to fold is a great thing these days, without feeling those pangs of "I shouda coulda". These days we hit that wall and have no place to go.

Richard....Charita stated it perfectly, in my opinion, by quoting Maya Angelou....

It is what it is - that's the best way to deal with things that we can't control. Easier said then done sometimes. Great post Richard :) Have a great weekend!

When I first entered this industry, I did a lot of ranting & raving.  I was wearing myself out & driving my husband crazy.  Then I realized, I am not in control...I am a conduit through which information flows.  And now, My Husband is Much Happier!

I also try to fix everything but that really wreaks havoc on our systems.  I am trying more and more to just let things go.  When we show anxiety, it's hard to keep our clients calm.

Richard...we like control because we feel the obligation of our clients lives and future is in our hands.  Letting someone else contol this is not in my realm.

Richard:  One of these days I will write a tell all book about a transaction that I am currently involved in.  There is nothing we can do to close this thing, but my buyer can't let it go.  Sometimes you have to advise your client to walk away for their own good.

Reminds me of a line from a song Waylon Jennings sang, "sometimes it heaven, sometimes it's hell, and sometimes you don't even know".

I never get upset over things that are out of my control. Things that I can control, that go awry, well, that's another story!

Richard, that was one of the hardest things to learn and to live with in this business. I, like you, want to control what is going on. When that becomes impossible, I find that the lines of communication established early on in the process allow much better outcomes.

When the real estate market went further south a few years ago, I realized my control powers went with it. After freaking out, I realized I could actually relax. Worrying wouldn't make it come back. Not in control now. Hey, this is kinda' nice!

Hi Richard, There are many things that are out of our control in this business today. And often that's quite a large pill to swallow. My in some situations, there's just nothing we can do about it. It can be frustrating.

This is the most difficult market I've ever experienced. I've weathered both buyers and sellers markets, but never anything like this. This is frustrating, discouraging, and SO difficult to stay sane!

Richard,

I am thrilled I was born a total Type B.  If it's not life-threatening, you won't see me in a crazy panic. I'm all for what can we do to fix the challenge.  If nothing, we go on from there!

All the best, Michelle

Richard do you really think we are type A?  Probably I have to agree.  I have learned if we don't stay on top of things we loose out.

Evening Richard,  Interesting post.  I agree most of us like to remain in control during a transaction.  Holding things together is getting tougher and tougher !

Letting go of a transaction or a client is so very difficult.  There don't seem to  be any guidelines for when to let go.  For example, how long do you continue to work with a client before you decide that they are not progressing toward a sale?

When is "enough is enough". I have experienced clients who are unresponsive after working with them for some time. This is especially true of buyers.  What ever happened to common courtesy of returning calls or emailing to your agent to let them know your plans?

Do the best you can, give your client your best effort, but in the end- you're at the mercy of morons sometimes.  It's like trying to speed on a busy highway- you can only go as fast as the slowest driver so pull enjoy the ride! -Steve
