I decided to do a little server maintenance today. It’s something that I really mean to do a lot more frequently but there always seems to be some things that are higher on the priority list.
And in doing so, I examined my email accounts. I have to admit that I have a lot of them, but there was one that was completely full. All 250 megabytes of it!
So I configured Outlook to download the messages. As it turns out, there were nearly 7000 of them. After about ten minutes and with only a couple of hundred messages opened, I took a very rash and drastic action.
I deleted the account on the server, and set it up fresh and clean and devoid of content. It was very hard for me to do. Goodness only knows what might have been in those 6800 emails that I will never see.
I am certain that somewhere in the bowels of the abandoned mailbox mine was a rich vein of ore just waiting to be excavated, processed and refined into pure gold.
More than likely though, it was nothing more than adverts for those little blue pills and multiple communications from foreign nationals trying to deposit millions of dollars into my bank account.
Either way, I guess that I will never know.

I went thru my one email account and started cleaning out files. I had forgot some of the things that I had saved. I can only imagine what you may have discarded.
Richard, oh my! You just might have deleted that email that you've been waiting for for the last 40 years! You are a brave man.
Richard - While you may have lost a jewel, you probably just disposed of unnecessary junk. It's just like a good closet cleaning; if I havent' worn it in a year, I don't need it.
I think it may have been time to erase those old emails. I try to go over mine once a month because they tend to pile up.
Nope. I could not do it but I admire you for having the courage!
I'm sure if it was REALLY important they would have e-mailed you again ... and again ... and again.
You previewed alot more than I would have before "deleting all". Chances are high you didn't miss a thing.

Ah...the release! It's powerful to just say no and decide that you can do better with your time!
Don...
Well, it's too late for me to think about, so who knows. It's great to hear from you my friend!
Pat...
It was hard for me to do, but I wasn't going to tie my computer up for hours downloading those messages! Thanks so much.
John...
I sense that you are correct. Thanks for jumping in!
Been there, done that. It's never easy but the alternative is not either. Just think of how many millions of dollars you missed out on when those bankers in Nigeria cannot reach you to claim that their client is your deceased relative and they are going to share half of the 47 billion dollars with you...
Richard...didn't you do this about a year ago also. I just got rid of two accounts that i don't use anymore.
Richard: I would have no problem blowing up my mailbox on any given day. I find email great for work communications, but really don't like it much otherwise. I get so much junk. It's annoying.
Sometimes it takes drastic measures. In the long run, you have no stress in trying to go through all those mesages, of which, most of it was probably spam.
Richard, that is a hard thing to do but I'll bet you feel much lighter after deleting, don't you?
Richard, I just deleted 2500 emails in my Gmail account. I know how you feel. Sometimes you just have to do it.
Good morning Richard,
Good for you! Your machine thanks you and you probably will not regret one of those missing files. Sometimes you just have to wipe out the past and get on with the present!
I have a couple of email accounts I have not opened in 6 months. The only ones who send things to them are spammers..I better check and maybe "delete!"
You mean you lost out on millions going into your bank account? Shame on you Richard, lol.
Richard, I would have done the same.
OUCH!
I so hope you're right and all those emails were for those little blue pills and pleas from foreign nationals to have money deposited into your account!!!!
Sometimes it's just best to purdge things and start over my friend. No need to second guess yourself.

Richard,
I do that occasionally too; if it's that old, what's the point?
