I went to preview a bank foreclosure for an out of state buyer yesterday. It was in a very rural area in the westernmost part of the county. And although it was chilly and a brisk wind was blowing, the sun was shining and it was a nice day for a drive.
The house was a bit of a disappointment, as it needed a lot more work than was expected, and that would probably keep it out of the buyer’s price range, There was termite damage and mold, much likely the result of water infiltration.
In addition the mechanical systems seemed to need repairs or replacement, making this particular property more of a project than a prospect. I took some photos to document the condition and then headed back to the truck.
It was that that I espied the glorious harbingers of Spring! There were clumps of the beautiful golden “jonquils,” as we call them in the south, in full bloom and announcing that finally, Spring is just around the corner!
And although these early birds typically bloom in February, this year has not been typical at all. It has been colder and snowier than I ever remember in my thirty-seven years of living in the area!
My attitude changed at the moment I saw these yellow blooms. I am rejuvenated, and ready for anything. My entire outlook on life is now one of excited anticipation!
Spring has sprung, and I for one, am glad!

Richard:
How beautiful. That must have made the whole trip worth while.
Richard, I am jealous! How beautiful, I can hardly wait myself. Although I see tips of something emerging from the ground at my daughters home.
Thank you! There is hope!
SPRING IS COMING! SPRING IS COMING!
The only Daffidils I can see so far are the ones I'm growing in my Sunroom.
Richard,
I am so past ready for evidence of spring!! I am thankful tho the sun is out today and I am sure that will change my attitude if just for one day.
What a beautiful photo! We have sunshine and blue skies today! Yeah!
We've not started seeing too many signs of spring yet here in NC, but if it's happening in GA, surely it won't be long. I miss my flip flops! Thanks for the inspiration!
As always, beautiful shots, Richard. How do you initially set them up on the camera?
Christine...
It did indeed. Thanks for the comment.
Andrea...
You need to move farther south! It's time for us to get going in the garden. Thanks, my friend.
Lenn...
Ugh, and they are predicting more snow for you this week. WOW. THX
Richard. We call them daffodils. These are my favorite flowers and they announce the arrival of Spring. Thanks for the reminder that it is just around the corner.
Hi Richard, love those flowers! Yellow flowers of any kind can get you in the mood for Spring. I can't wait to start planting and turning drab into fab! :)
I am just yellow with envy, Richard! But your shots give me hope too.
Richard, that is great news. Means we aren't far behind. We still have some snow on the ground that is slowly melting away. Thanks.
Tulips and Irises can't be far behind. As the Everly Brothers sang, "all I have to do is dream".
Hi Richard, I had the same feeling yesterday but instead of seeing flowers, I saw beautiful big SNOW FLAKES. It's hard to believe spring is almost here.
Paul
Richard - Woo hoo ! It is amazing how quickly one's attitude can be changed by a vision such as this, or just thinking about spring in general !
They are definately very late this year. In the past, we always had them blooming on Valentine's Day. One year I had one bloom on Ground Hog Day. I am still waiting to see one this year. You're on the south of the city so maybe I'll see one soon up in Sandy Springs.
Great pics, Richard.
I can't wait to try my new camera out on some colourful spring shots...should be soon...at least that's what I keep telling myself...should be soon....
Richard,
Beautiful photos, we love daffodils! In wine country they bloom everywhere wild along many of the roads, they are a delight to the eyes. Thanks for the post.
Richard...YOu have flowers blooming and I am awaiting our next snow storm. Maybe 2 befoe spring.
Can't wait to see them here.
Richard,
Love the pictures! It is true....it does so much to lift the spirits! I can't wait till we get ours in bloom...right now we are still in snow drops....which have a beauty of their own...
Richard as I make this comment and look out the window and the latest snow drop, that seems so far away, but at least it is a hope. Thanks for sharing.
awesome...even though we have been having warmer weather...I have yet to see my crocuses...I cant' wait...
Flowers blooming already. We're still trying to thaw out here in sunny Florida. Guess it is a sign of all the good things to come.
Spring IS coming. Lately, while walking on the beach, I've been avoiding the waves. Now I AM able to get my feet wet.
Very nice! We are under more than a foot of snow, so I don't expect to see daffodils for another month.
We expect to be in the 50s today and the sky is clear blue.......I can't wait for Spring. This afternoon I am going for a drive and hope to find some early blooms to photograph.
Richard - very nice photos, and love the flowers. I recently was previewing a home, and saw the flowers, and posted them a few days ago!
Yes those are a glorious announcement of spring, so short lived and beautiful.
Thank you
Richard, daffodils definitely do it for me-----remember those fields of them in Dr Zhivago?
Richard, we get that same awesome feeling when we see the first blooms on the Japanese magnolia trees. They just "busted out" in the past week, also later than usual. Today I'm putting the last of Christmas stuff in storage (also later than usual), so today is a good day. Have a great one.
Hi Richard... nice pictures. Beautiful blooms. Here we're seeing the Japanese cherry trees blossom. It's the mildest winter I can remember in many years. I'd better get my camera out and get going.
Richard, always enjoy good quality photographs. It is great to see the flowers starting to bloom already.
Hi Richard, your photos brightened my day! No signs of Spring here, so I will have to take heart with yours :-) Thank you!
Richard It's amazing how nature has the ability to change our mood whether it be a beautiful flora specimen or a chirping bird on a windowsill. Lovey photos.
And not a moment too soon!
Spring will be here before we know it!
Whoopee! What a beautiful picture depicting the coming spring!
The power of flowers! It's a sure way to lift the attitude and these are beautiful I'm waiting for our flowering trees to begin blooming, messy as they are.
Hi Richard -- There is just something special about flowers -- they always make me smile and feel good. We are in the throes of winter still here in Cleveland so I will live vicariously through you. If you ever tire of real estate, you could easily be a professional photographer.
Gorgeous, Richard! I call them daffodils, and they are my all time favorite flower - they smell so very sweet!
Debi
What an encouraging photo! I didn't know you called them jonquils, fun to know!
Hi Richard... Spring has not sprung here quite yet, but I have been seeing bulbs pushing up from the ground lately, so I am hopeful it will be here before too long! I love the photos!
Richard the bright Yellow flowers give me hope we are still in the throws of winter here...but I know this too will change (thank God).
Richard, I'm so glad that you had a 'moment' yesterday. It's amazing how small things stimulate an attitude shft and a remarkable memory. Hope it's the start of a really great week.

Richard - We too have a few struggling daffodils trying to absorb our flashes of sun. I'm rooting for them !
What a nice day brightner! Thanks Richard.
Richard, life is such a mixture of the hardship and the beautiful, and I am VERY GLAD you experienced that.
Definitely ready to see spring! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the floral shot. If you saw them there, can Spring be far behind here in Colorado? I am ready for some color on our landscape.
Hello Richard, Thanks for the lovely pictures of the daffodils, I think. They are a sure reminder that spring isn't far away. What a sad world it would be without flowers.....
Patricia/Seacoast NH
Certainly has been a wild winter... It will be nice to have a little warm weather... but then it will get seriously hot again.
Sorry to hear about the house, but those pictures are fantastic.
Our jonquils are starting to bloom, also, We it was warm enough to do some spring clean-up in the yard today (usually it would have been "winter clean'up" but it's been too cold & wet! The hellebores (also called Lenten Roses) are in full bloom, too!
Thanks for posting. I am ready for spring and for the flowers to start coming up here in Denver.
We live close to Punxsutawney, PA. Phil says we have another two weeks.
Nothing like the bright colors of spring and the smell of dirt in the air to get your heart beating.
Richard:
Those are gorgeous flowers and give me warm thoughts of spring just around the corner.
Lovely!
I can't wait 'til those little buggers show their face here.
Richard:
That sounds like an inspiring trip.
Thanks for sharing!
Richard - What a pleasant sight to greet you after seeing that house. A good sign of better weather to come, I'd say.
Jeff
I'm sure spring is going to be a welcome relief to many around the country this year. How nice that you were able to find this sign after the disappointment of the property.
Good morning Richard,
What beautiful shots! Spring is coming although we still may have some interruptions before we really get to enjoy the season. Isn't it amazing what a lift that bright yellow little flower can give?
I haven't noticed any blooms here in the north yet, but it feels lately winters grip is lessening.
I am definitely jealous - haven't seen any signs of first flowers here in Michigan - I love to garden and it would definitely have cheered me up to find these - thanks for the vicarious cheer up!
Spring really is coming! It's been a long winter here in Georgia -- I've enjoyed the snow as we've had more than usual, but I'm ready to see some flowers too!
Richard, Thanks for the hope! We are probably a week or so away from blooms...sure has been a dreary winter here in Northern Arkansas. I am looking forward to the wild plum trees, redbuds then dogwoods!
