Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

I’m going “around in circles” today... Well, around Atlanta Georgia anyway!

Going around in circlesAtlanta, like many other cities in the United States, has a perimeter highway that circles the metro area.

I-285 has long been used both as a traffic conduit and as a line of demarcation for real estate location, as a property is designated as either being “inside” or “outside” the perimeter.

Today, I will get to experience the loop in its entirety, as commitments will compel me to circumnavigate the entire sixty-four mile loop and soak up as much of the Atlanta traffic mania that I can.

It’s kind of strange to drive that far to get back to where you started. After all, we use the expression “I’m going around in circles” quite a bit in real estate today.

Bur rarely do we do it by design!

Hi Richard,

As an ex-Atlanta-ian, I know exactly what you are talking about. Stay safe in that traffic!

Richard, I travelled to Atlanta for the first time last year to attend a cheerleading competition downtown.  I got to experience the drive from the airport to downtown.  I made the mistake of renting a car as I wasn't familiar with your fair city.  This year MARTA and $13.50 took care of 3 round-trips from the airport to the Ritz.  We LOVE MARTA!  And I also think it's so cool that your transportation system has such a southern belle name.

Richard, watch out for the crazy drivers.  I've driven this road and always very nervously.

Richard - Just don't miss your turns and keep circling forever like Pasquel Perez, a former Atlanta Braves pitcher.

Better a circle than some kind of polygon!

Richard, having a "Perimeter Party" are ya? Oh, how well I remember "the perimeter". And I thought traffic was bad way back when, when we were on dinosaurs ....

Richard, several years ago I was on the Capital Beltway here in the Washington area. I knew I was lost when I passed the Washington DC Mormon Temple a second time. Stay safe!

Richard,

I have made it a practice to go in circles, when showing property, by design.  Now when I get home the lovely lady will get me going in circles by HER design.

That's really putting your life on the line for your job or maybe you're just a little crazy!

Driving the perimeter on a Friday!! Good Luck!

And remember the super speeder law!!! Keep it under 80 in that 55 MPH zone!

I remember my days in Atlanta on 285!  I recall one story that circulated for years that some people came from out of town and got lost and stayed on 285 for a whole day, never realizing they were going in circles!

I miss the days when we would drive, for no other reason then to get out and drive. Some days our cars become mini jail cells. And sometimes they are like heavenly ships bringing us to something fanastic.

Richard - Here's hoping you have a successful circumnavigation of Atlanta and complete your journey before rush hour traffic sets in.

I could drive from Colorado Springs to Denver in that distance. Sounds like a lot of traffic to navigate through just to end up at the beginning. Have a good trip.

Sound a lot like life Richard, hopefully it was a successful journey and home was a welcome sight. Take care.

I think we all feel like when do a lot of moving these days to get right back to where we started. At least your version is convenient.

Richard:  I remember ages ago, when I was a college student with a new car, I drove the entire perimeter of the Washington, DC beltway...just because.  I believe it is exactly 45 miles long if memory serves.

Richard, how funny. The only place I've ever been that the road circles around the city is San Antonio! In Arizona, everything is straight north/south or east/west with only a few exceptions. Good share...;-)

Here on Long Island we do not have roads like that. Good thing because it would make me nuts! But, we do have our traffic congestion wihch is not fun during rush hour.
