I heard an interesting item yesterday on the news. The reporter stated that for the first time since records have been kept, that there was at least some snow on the ground somewhere in 49 of the 50 United States! Hawaii was the only exception.
And although most of us are weary of winter weather stories and are ready for warmer temperatures, that really is an amazing declaration. Even Florida had some snow on the ground in it’s northern region.
I’m not suggesting that we are in the midst of a mini ice-age but even the most cynical observer would have to admit that this has been one crazy winter.
On the bright side, I’ve reloaded a new arsenal of snow photos. I’m thinking that I may hold on to some of them until July.
Because quite a few of us have seen enough for one year!

Richard.....for sure, in July, when we hit our first 100 degree day, we'll be yearning for winter snow and colder weather....are we hard to satisfy people???
Good morning Richard,
This is a fantastic shot. It is hard to believe that there is snow in some part of all 49 states at the same time! Very cold and wet winter!! Happy Valentines Day!
Richard,
I saw that report too and was amazed when I thought about Florida, Texas and other Southern States. Nutty season.
Rich
Yes, I like a week or 2 of winter but I'm ready for spring. I do enjoy your local photos though but some pretty spring flowers will be nice!
Well, snow is really nothing new for us Northern folk, but I remember when I lived in the South and how exciting it was when it happened. Everyone would stay home on a 2 inch snow day. Probably because there was no snow plowers either. Here, we get 1 to 2 inches daily and really start complaining when we get 12 inches and have to shovel it.
Washington Nationals spring training starts here in Viera in a few weeks...yes, spring! Enough with the snow!
Richard, I'm photo deprived right now. Redding in winter is pretty dreary. I guess we could drive up to snow country and get photos.....my back 2 acres are just winter trees with no leaves....gray and dead looking. Waiting for Spring and photo ops! Nice photo!
I am waiting for spring. Can you share some pictures of spring instead? We have had enough snow for the year.
It's El nino at work! It's been rainy and cold even in Sarasota this winter. In the 50's instead of the 70's...
Hi Richard, I had read this and it was incredulous that global warming and Ice Age was mentioned in the same news report. For those that have bought in to the "warming " side of the argument, 50 degrees is the new 70. Just when I thought we were going to get a break when it was also widely accepted that 50 years old was the new 40, hehehe.
That doesn't surprise me Richard. We are due for more snow this week on Long Island. Stick a fork in me because I'm done with snow! Great picture :)
Richard, beautiful shot! I never tire of snow pictures, we have been spared for the most part, have a bit of snow here and there but not much.
Richard, this year has been one odd Winter. In our are we have broken snow fall records going back to 1898. I'm all for an early Spring.
Richard, very interesting statistics. You ALWAYS have great photos to go with your posts. Thanks.
Barbara...
And we continue to complain! lol and thanks.
Dorie...
I grabbed that shot early yesterday morning, and the roads were frozen sheets of ice! THX
Rich...
It really is! Thanks, my friend.
Richard: That stat is amazing. I would never had thought. Would it count if I packed up a frozen package of snow and shipped it to Hawaii? ;)
Beautiful photo Richard - and your comment about holding on to some of them till July made me laugh! I think you are quite right!
Debi
Calvin...
You probably recognize this as Raymond GA on the Norfolk Southern line. There used to be a junction here to Luthersville, Pine Mountain, and Columbus! THX
Michael...
It's exciting all right, because as you say, it is a rare occasion! Thnks so much.
Gary...
Spring and baseball ... I like the sound of that! Thanks.
Richard, love the photo. Seeing some snow photos in July will be most welcomed to most of us.
Richard , it is incredible to be watching the Olympics in Canada and seeing there lack of snow while the Mid- Atlantic states have gotten several feet in the last two weeks.
Hang on to the pictures, they are a great historic record and I just love the white up against the deep blue. Stay warm! We are loving the warm up here in the Pacific Northwest.
We are in a time of low sunspot activity according to www.icecaps.us Take a look Richard cold times are here.
Save those winter snow photos Richard. Then post them in the middle of the summer when everyone is complaining about how hot it is!
That's a fascinating statistic. Who would have thought that Florida would have snow but Vancouver is struggling. This is indeed a strange Winter.
Richard, I read that also, it has been crazy Winter!
I knew before it was all over with that global cooling would be the death of us all. It's been a strange Winter these past few days for sure.
Richard,
I am so ready for the warmer weather up here. I looked out the door this morning and it looks as though we have another 2 - 3 inches of the fluffy white stuff on the ground. I wonder if Canada would like it?
Richard I had hear the same story on 40 of 50 over the weekend with Hawaii being the exception. It also offered that even in Hawaii there is some type of snow that can be found on the higher peaks of the dormant volcanoes, but that there was none this year. And as for the snow photos in mid summer, maybe you can offer up the Christmas in July with snow photos.
