Well, it’s Wednesday, but since I have been working straight through the last few weeks I have completely lost that “middle of the week” feeling.
Of course, in today’s world, there are but a lucky few left that work the traditional five-day nine to five work week. And there is always pressure to shift to a more efficient system.
One local area school board is considering changing to a four day week with longer daily hours for teachers and students, but an extra day off translates to a huge cost savings for the school district.
So the terms “Hump-day, T.G.I.F. or manic Mondays” have lost all of their relevant meaning.
And I think that takes a little something away from our psyche and our souls.

Richard, well said! When I was a kid in Arkansas, we had blue Sunday laws where everything was closed on Sundays. I miss those Sunday's believe it or not!
There is no hump day for me. I was just telling my Mom last night that in this business you have to keep working until everyone is satisfied. Today I will be out with 3 different buyers showing homes. Hopefully, some of those will result in writing an offer and then it's more work. But you have make hay while the sun shines.
You got it...no rest for the weary! Guess I will settle for "TGIAA"...Thank God I am alive!"
And yet somehow I never really know whether what I'm doing is work or not because most of it is so damn fun and/or interesting. The work/play lines are getting blurred. -- Tanya in Montreal
Richard.....it's a sign of the times for most....however, in our industry, working weekends was a necessity.....that's when most deals happen....it comes with the job....we try to take a day off during the week, so we feel like human beings.
There is some humor buried in your post somewhere...but I will keep it clean. Last week was a short week and by the time Friday arrived it was the longest week in a long time.
Nope! It's my B-day so I'm working DOUBLY hard today.
When NASCAR season starts * February 14th with the Daytona 500 * I'll schedule around Cup and Nationwide races for Saturday and Sunday work schedule.
For me, Hump Day sometimes lands on Thursday or even Tuesday when the weekend was filled with buyers and Open Houses. But I sure could use one of Bobs Blue Sundays right about now.
Richard, you're killin' me with the stuff you come up with! Lol!
As Bob said.....when they changed the Blue law....hump day has disappeared for a lot of people and not just for the 7 day realtor.
I know the feeling Richard. There are times when I'm not even sure what day it is since they all run into each other. But there are times when I'm not as busy so that makes up for it :)
I kind of like the fact that I'm not locked into M-F 9-5. It's what I have tried to avoid my whole life, it seems. I like working when others don't and taking off when others are working. I never shop on weekends and I can arrange doctor/dentist appointments whenever. There's always an upside to everything, I think.
Richard..I agree.. I came to Real Estate from the restaurant business. I didnt have a hump day or a TGIF...kinda sad...
You are so right, Richard. I too work seven days a week, and they all just "melt together" sometimes. I feel no particular satisfaction knowing that Wednesday has come and gone.
Richard,
It is hump day, reflecting that my wife is half through her typical work week.
So I know if I can set aside part of the weekend, I can spend it with her.
We need to establish client expectations, be the guard of our time, and make sure the 7 days are necessary, not just passing time at daily make work stuff.
When I worked in Title, the work week schedule was 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. I was exempt, so as the regional IT Marketing sherpa, I was free to work all the overtime I wanted. Hardly a week went by that I worked less than 60 hours, and most weeks it was more like 70. I did that for over 10 years. I was, on occasion, almost jealous of those in the title plant, they normally worked the traditional hours and got overtime for extra.
As I said, I loved that job and traveling a lot I spent most weekends catching up because I'd been on the road, or getting prepared for the next weeks traveling. Social media has blurred those distinctions also. When am I working, and when am I not? Now that I'm looking for work and trying to get my own business off the ground, most week's appear as if I worked every waking minute. I tend to wake up on Sunday's a little late and wear my bathrobe for an extra 30 minutes calling that my official time off. But what do I do, check in with ActiveRain and read a few blogs!
Back in the 80's I worked downtown Seattle... The one thing I loved about public transportation was, "Sorry, gotta run! Got a bus to catch."
Schedule a day for fun my friend... take care.
Richard - Get some rest, buddy! I can't go very long without a day off, although my "days off" probably involve working on the computer, etc.
You know you never see an epitaph that says:
"I wish I had spent more time at the office!"
I'm with Tanya.....Let's play!
I hope you all find time to include real important things...
You know what they are!
I'm with you. I think I have lost a few holidays too. Every day has been a work day for quite some time. Growing up in Finland everything was closed Sundays too. It still is like that in many smaller towns and villages :). ~Rita
9-5/ M-F...What's that like?
The only saving grace that we have here in the South is that we're in the Bible Belt and we typically have off until noon on Sundays...every now and then at least!
All my days just run together and most of the time I have no idea what day of the week it actually is. I only knew today was Wednesday because we had a sales meeting this morning at the office and it's always on a Wednesday.
Richard,
With some of the transactions I've had recently, its now "get humped" day. Take your pick as to which one.
Rich
Sounds like you have been on the proverbial roller coaster lately. Don't want to sound like your mother, but a little rest and a little play might be the prescription for the day.
Richard,...since I have never had a 9-5 or a mon-fri job, I don't know what I am missing. maybe that is what is wrong with my soul!
What day? I don't want to complain about being busy, but I do have to remember balance or I am not good to anyone especially myself.
Richard~ I haven't had a hump day for over 12 years. I have been taking Thursdays off and working on Saturdays, and Sunday if necessary. So I think my psyche has been messed up for quite some time now.
We have some schools that have gone to the 4 day week with longer hourse. Kids have the option of coming to school on Friday with different workshops and projects for them on that day. Teachers do their planning on Fridays and grade papers. It seems to be working well.
I guess it doesn't apply when you don't have standard hours like a banker, etc.
I am thinking that the 9 to 5 days went out with Dolly Parton and a 5 day work week is a fading memory.
Hi Richard, I think the 9-5 M-F thing is a myth that exists only in a fantasy-land we'll never see. But, maybe that is okay if we can find joy in our work. Here is to lots of joy for all of us. Please take care.
Richard,
The days just don't mean the same things they used to! You are so right. And if you are working day after day you may find yourself asking, "What day is it again?" LOL I know I do!
Wendy
We have never had a 9 - 5 job ever. You are so right that hump day for us in real estate is a non entity. Maniac Mondays however, still exist. Just wish Sundays went back to being the Lord's Day and we all were off and enjoyed it.
