Although yesterday was a national holiday in honor of Dr. King, and despite the fact that our Newnan real estate office was officially closed, the place was teeming with activity.
Agents were scrambling about with clients and offers and getting ready for property showings. It was actually much busier than a normal weekday.
I had at least five phone calls from new prospects, and we are going to show property to two of them and one was referred out.
My take on this is simple … buyers realize that the time is right to purchase real estate and are using their free time to take advantage of the opportunity. The shift from caveat emptor to carpe diem is almost dramatic!
And I believe that this is a portent of what is to come. So we are gearing up our operation is preparation for an onslaught of purchasers.
It’s a great time to buy real estate, and we are here to help!

Neat entry! Holidays..we work when other people don't. A few years back the REALTOR slogan was "We're REALTORS. You have a life, we let you live it".
Richard....you are right....,we are experiencing that same type of setting....our open house events are busier and we are receiving more calls.....let's all keep working....there's no such thing as too busy!!!
Sounds like a good time to be in your area! I would say you had a really productive day. Good luck..and that house in te photo, I'll take it!
Andrew...
I think that old slogan says it all! Thanks for the comment.
Barbara...
You can say that again. Thanks.
Gary...
It's a historic house in Newnan! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Richard,
We were officially open but with very few agents around. Those who were scrambled to show buyers homes. I helped a colleague and her first-time buyers write an offer on one of my foreclosure listings. Freddie Mac was open, so I was able to submit it and get it countered and accepted before dinner! In between, I was working the phones with other clients who had the day off. Carpe diem.
And many people were off yesterday from work and school so it was a perfect day to extend the weekend and hunt for houses.
Richard - can't say that our neck of town has been as busy, but I do find in general that legal holidays are often busy househunting days and those that do come into the office, cash in on it.
Richard - we were busy at our office yesterday also. But, it's not just holidays, we miss a lot of weekends also.
Richard, I know exactly what you are talking about. I was working with new buyers as well and it was a busy day. At least my wife was able to stay home with our daughter.
Richard, that is great news that you were so busy. That seems to be a recurring theme. Let's gear up for a booming year.
Richard - we have had tremendous activity as soon as the new year rolled around - our listings have showings left and write, buyers are looking and our website traffic has suddenly increased. Now however, even with larger number of showings very few buyers are writing offers and buyers that are ready to go are having extremely hard time getting qualified - sigh. ~Rita
Traffic is increasing here as well! I spent Friday & Saturday doing an Open House and spent part of Sunday with a buyer who drove down from SLC to preview a few properties.

Richard,
Absolutely seeing the same thing here. Multiple offers is rearing its ugly head again too.
Rich
Richard: We saw the same thing here in Northern Virginia yesterday. It's a great thing to be busy showing homes to buyers.
We work when others don't. Thanksgiving day is the one holiday of the year that I reserve for me.
Let the good times roll Richard. I feel we are on a rebound politically and economically.
Great news, Richard. May this continue onward and upward.
Hey Richard, glad to hear you were busy. Hope this keeps up. I actually had a quiet weekend (thanks to the dentist). I would definitely have preferred to have been busy.
