The aftershocks of the recent catastrophic earthquake in Haiti are reverberating throughout North America and the rest of the world. It almost seems unfair that people that had so little to begin with have lost so much.
The human toll is sobering, and an unpleasant reminder that tragedy can strike without warning and that the devastation can be unprecedented.
But if there is something positive to take from this horrific episode, it is the willingness of conscientious and generous benefactors and volunteers from around the globe to offer aid and succor to those that are suffering.
There is much that can be done for the survivors to restore their human dignity and to try to make sense of everything that has transpired. It will take time, effort, and money to enable them to return to a semblance of normality.
And I will never lose sight of all of the blessings that I have.
There, but for the Grace of God, go I.

Thank you for your comments.
I have rules of life and the first rule is that we are successful because of the Lord.
He doesn't need anything from us other than our recognition and praise. He is wonderful to each of us and is
active in all of our lives.
Stay close to Him at all times.

Richard, well said. We are blessed, even in our darkest times, when we compare our lives to those who are living with such devastation and tragedy. It is a sobering reality check.
We should all look at the positives in our lives - there are so many for all of us.
Richard.....ditto on all that has been said.....i'm sure you have heard on the news about the Ma. family who was told their daughter was rescued and saw the her body on a stretcher....then they were told it was not their daughter.....they still have not found her.
You blog post just proves that when you think you have it bad, someone else has it worse than you. Nothing can compare to what's going on in Haiti, I think. The news is just devastating. We are lucky.
Richard, I think the world is very willing to jump on the "Ugly American" bandwagon, but historically we as a country are nearly always the first to send aide and manpower after a disaster.
Thanks Richard, I too try to always remain thankful for my blessings. They are many, and undeserved.
Amen Richard, amen.
My heart aches for them and it does remind me of how blessed I am.
What an inspiring post to read this Sunday. Thank you for bringing me back to earth.
Sonny...
Well stated ...thx!
Andrea...
It really is a reality check. Thanks, my friend!
Katie...
Yes, we always need to do just that! THX
Barbara...
I have not seen that story. It's tragic. Thanks for the comment.
Erica...
That is exactly the way I feel. THX.
Steve...
That's because we do it because it's the right thing to do, and not to influence public opinion. Thanks.
Richard, we truly are blessed and I am overjoyed to see the response of the American people, once again along with the whole world, have had to the tragedy in Haiti. To see the people of Haiti marching and singing in the streets yesterday, when they don't even have food and water, was overwhelming. There but for the grace of God...
Richard,
I too am a firm believer in the abundance of God's grace...blessing to you...no doubt when one reaches out a hand of compassion it benefits all....
Richard - since my parents actually felt the earthquake, I am acutely aware that this could have been anyone (My home country sits on the same earthquake fault as Haiti). I am proud of the response. A tragedy always brings out the best in the US people and the people of the world.
Richard: What a lovely picture. It is true that tragedy can strike anywhere, but the human spirit can overcome tragedy, or help those who are mired deep in it.
Richard, What a beautiful message and you're so very right. I feel blessed every day and especially so after seeing all the devastation in Haiti. I hope we all remember to do as much as we can to help now and keep helping.
Good morning Richard, It is sobering indeed. I am truly thankful everyday for everything that has been given to me, we never know when such a tragedy can take it all away.
When I see these tragedy's and soldiers in foreign lands getting killed, etc I have nothing to complain about.
Richard, There has been a lot of devestation in Haiti and I hope that they will come out of this in the end much better that where they were before the quake.
We all should take some time to appreciate all we have for which we can give thanks. And, then begin giving as much as we can to others. Thanks for the post Richard.
It is so sad that it does take a catastrophic event for the world to come together. I for one try to count my blessings daily.
These are important thoughts to remember as we go about our day.
Richard, Thank you for the reminder to count your blessings. It is also fantastic to see all the world jumping in to help in this terrible situation .
