Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

When you are doing an “all-nighter,” it’s easy to lose track of time!

Working day and night in real estateAs I have mentioned several times lately, I have a lot on my plate right now. I am getting along all right, because I have been able to acquire “extra” time by avoiding sleep.

As the clock nears 4:00 A.M. I begin to wonder: Is it really, really late right now, or am I past the point of no return and it’s now very early. These are the kinds of things that you think about after a significant amount of sleep deprivation.

I am going to assume it’s early and start a pot of coffee. I have a long day ahead of me

Hopefully, there will be time to sleep tonight … or tomorrow night … or whatever the heck day it is night!

I get most of my work done late at night. The kids are asleep, the phone isn't ringing, and I can focus on exactly what I need to do!

It's late here where I am, but it must be really late where you are.... but then again, it must be morning already.  I hope you can catch up on your sleep soon.

Richard - 4:00 a.m. is really early if you ask me.  Hope whatever is keeping you up pulling an all-nighter is resolved soon.

Richard, I wake every morning at 4:00 AM, and think it's normal,  But that is after sleeping for a few hours.  I hope that you get the sleep you need soon.  You must take care of yourself!

The body animal is a wondrus thing.  If one simply goes to bed/sleep when one's eyes begin to burn, one begins to yawn and then sleeps until one wakes up naturally (no alarms), one is getting a sufficiency of sleep.

Otherwise one would still be asleep.

With no artificial sleep producing chemicals, the body sleeps when it is in a quiet place designed for sleep.

When one awakes, one can simply get up and get on about the day.

Forget the clock.  They're not as smart as folks think.

Richard....I'm an early riser...up at 4:30 with no alarm clock.....but my eyes tend to close by 9:00pm!!!!  I'm in the office by 7:00am.....I fully agree with Lenn....the body knows what it needs....just do as it demands.

I can do in the AM * dogs get me up at 5:30A or 6A and they do their thing and while they have chewies to work on, I work on 2 cups of coffee....THEN I get dressed and go to the office....I am able to end earlier in the afternoon and go to bed earlier

I also can get a lot done at night but would prefer to get some sleep too!  Not good to go without sleep!  Good Luck!

Richard, that is not fun. I hope whatever this is that is keeping you up and gnawing at your stomach will resolve soon. We can't afford to have you getting sick, and neither can you.

I hate to take anything, especially those over the counter sleeping pills. I hate when I can't sleep, and because I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, what ususally happens is that I wake up at some horrible hour and can't get back to sleep.

Work it out soon please. We are not as young as we used to be to tolerate this.

I love that phrase that Lenn used:  the body animal is a wondrous thing.  You will sleep when you need it and be awake when you need to be.

I am assuming that you are working on the move?  How is it going?  Are you getting close to being finished with that so that things will settle down and you can get back to your routine?  Routine - ha!  Okay as much routine as you can get into.

Richard you have me a bit worried here.  You better sleep tonight.  I know you will sleep when you need it but it might not be at the most convienient time, like at a stop sign or in the middle of a meeting. There now that the mother in me has spoken, you have a good day my friend.

Richard, I've done all nighters and I want to highly recommend against it, if you're planning on meeting clients or having any interaction with folks the next day.  It will show, and it's not pretty.  Good luck!

Hi Richard, I do the same thing. It's quieter and I get more done late at night. Don't go on like that for long. It will catch up to you and you're gonna be cranky my friend! Trust me :)

There's a reckoning coming.  Soon.

Richard, I call this the drivers syndrome.

When you are in traffic going 50 miles an hour on a 6 lane hwy. . .you are only responsible  that your space between your car and the one in front is 3 to 5 cars lengths and brake when the car in front  brakes.

Simple enough

If you are in traffic and you have cars in front , on your sides and behind with people that are talking on the phone, yelling, drinking coffee, sick with the flu, talking to others on the car, drunk, drugged and bold tires with brakes that needed maintenance 3 years ago. .

You get nervous. . looking all around as anxiety sets in.. .

Life is the same way Richard. . .just worry about that car on front of you and GET SOME SLEEP WHEN YOU GET HOME :)

Richard, I've been to the doctor for sleep disorder and the problems that can arise from lack of sleep are too many and too disastrous to mention here. Get help my friend.

Even if you're one of those who doesn't like to go to the doctor, go anyway, if not for yourself, for your family.

My friend, I would suggest that you get some rest before you make a problem that may not be correctable(?).

I need sleep.  8 hours at least.  Because I never sleep well though, I am always tired in the morning.  Try to sleep tonight Richard.  You will get sick if you don't get enough rest.  xxoo

Every action has a consequence, including depriving yourself of sleep so that you can get things done. A persistent lack of sleep will lead to getting sick more often.

OK that said, when I was in university, I was a chronic all-nighter, and I used this litmus test to see whether it was even worth going to sleep or not: if I had to get up in less than 4 hours, then it would be a sleepless night for me. 4+ hours 'til I had to get up? My eyes are closing. TAKE CARE. -- Tanya in Montreal

I tend to agree with Lenn... but then again I'm rather obsessive compulsive... When I'm burning with an idea I just can't stop. Especially when I was in music, I did a lot of all nighters. I'd write music and or arrangements for performances and/or recording sessions... then it was 12:30 or 2:30 AM and the parts still needed to be copied for the rehearsal at 9:00 AM... Somehow I always pulled it off. But simply put, I was so jazzed to hear it, I plowed through.

Then came working in Title Insurance... 8:00 to 5:00... that was tough. The past 10 - 15 years it was more about producing the app, product, web page, marketing program etc. and time was more flexible (which translated to: "your free to work all the overtime you want!" I pulled a lot of all nighters doing that also. There was always something to do, and the special project that you were working, then before you knew it... launch day (or a sales meeting) was tomorrow morning!

Now, since November, it would appear I have all this time on my hands. But I ask daily, where'd it go? Then, around 10:00 PM I get that composers 2nd wind...

I hope all you have on your platter right now is about your passion and to get it done... catnaps work too! But life without coffee, I fear to contemplate. Best wishes...
