Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

There are only 364 shopping days left until Christmas! So what are you waiting for?

Shops in Downtown Newnan GAIt may surprise you to know that the day AFTER Christmas is usually one of the three busiest shopping days every year. And it’s not just returns and exchanges that make this the case.

The increased popularity of gift cards combined with tremendous discounts entices consumers to get out and into the stores. And many hosts and hostesses enjoy shopping with visiting guests as an opportunity to “get out of the house” for a while.

I used to enjoy buying decorations at deep discount on the day after Christmas, but over the years I have accumulated more than I can ever use so there’s not much to motivate me to get out there in the midst of the serious bargain hunters.

So instead I’ll spend the day finishing reports and paperwork and getting the upcoming week off to a good start.

And wondering what kind of deals I am missing!

Richard, for right now I am spending the morning hoping the ice melts off the roads, so I can get to the office and pick up a check! Now there is a deal!

The real discounts will start in a week or 2, just in time for my next round of Christmas. I really can't think of anything I need or want anyway...

Hi Richard! I'm in the same boat. I used to love going to get decorations at deep discounts after Christmas. Around here it's usually on New Year's Day. I have enough and the stores become so crowded, it's worse than during the Christmas season. I'm passing this year. Or is it next year? Don't worry about what deals you are missing. Your sanity is more important :)

Richard, I can't count how many gift cards I saw, received and given over the holiday. Very popular!

Richard.....if the stores were handing out free decorations, there's no one with enough money to get me there....hope you had a merry christmas...the  new year is on 5 days away and then the 2010 games begin.

Andrea...

Here in GA, it's the day after. I once put two Christmas trees in the shopping cart at 75% off, and by the time I got to the register they were 90% off! Two nice 7' artificial trees for $20! I use one in the upstairs bedroom and one on the front porch. Now THAT's a deal! THX

Jackie...

Wow, by New Year's Day here, most people have ALL of there decorations taken down and packed up. Thanks for the comment.

Gary...

I think there are a few too mant gift cards given! Thanks, my friend.

Richard,

When I opened Outlook this morning there were at least five solicitations from on line vendors. I don't have to brave the crowds and lack of parking. I can do it all from the comfort of my home.

Our local TV newscasters have been broadcasting that this NOT the day you want to exchange this - better wait til later in the week.

Hi Richard,

After Christmas day shopping is always huge in Austin. I like you have way more Christmas decorations than I need and I'm not going to brave the crowds for anything that can't wait until later! I also saw huge gifts card purchased and given this year. For many that is better so they don't make a mistake in sizes, color or style. Let the recipient have more borrowing power and find what they want. Certainly less personal but for some may be the way to go.

As I drive to the Dunkin' Donuts I noticed all the store parking lots full...a signal to get my coffee and do some work!

Richard, I am still laughing over the title of this post. I'm with you, I am going to catch up on some paper work today.

Second busiest shopping day of the year they say.  Not for me, however my wife is out there in the madness.

Richard,

Sure youare missing dome "deals" but think of the congestion you are missing as well.  One of the things I despise about Christmas shopping is the crowds of people.  There are always a handful coughing and/or sneezing all over the place and not making any attempt to cover their mouths and control where their sickly spray ends up.

I also find this is people at the worst - competing for that 99 cent box of orniments will drive people bonkers - so I choose not to experience this aspect of humanity and just really like to take it easy this whole week.  It is timeto get my books ready for next year, refelct and tweek my business model and just get my head out of 2009 and into 2010.

So, don't worry about whatyou are missing let your competition worry about what you re up to,,,

Happy New Year,

John

Richard:  Since leaving my few years in retail behind, I have not set foot in a store on Christmas Eve or the day after Christmas.  Today will be a different story.  My husband James loved the train set, but wishes to do a smaller scale that H/O.

My wife Mary is great at finding bargains all year long and hiding them away. What discipline . . . on the other hand, it is usually last minute shopping for me.

Richard...I don't take gift cards at my real estate office ...but if your looking for a deal...forget the stores and buy some property!

I am not one who enjoys shopping in crowds so I try to avoid all the busy shopping days so I's rather head out mid-week next week.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

This year may not have lived up to the hype as gift card sales were down noticeably. I usually stay out of the malls on these type of days as I don't enjoy fighting the crowds. I figure that there is probably nothing I need so badly that I have to be there during the rush.

I avoid shopping for as long as I can.  However, my friend just called me this morning and said that he went out to get the 1/2 off bargain for next year's decorations.  Funny he did not mention anything about gifts!
