Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

Sometimes the best laid plans are set asunder by unforeseen circumstances and there’s nothing left to do but buck up and deal with it!

Christmas Tree in bay window.Yesterday, there were some tell-tale sneezes. Last evening, my throat felt “cottony.” And during the night, the congestion started building in my chest and I started aching all over.

Christmas is three days away and it seems that I’ve picked up the bug that has been going around the office for some time. By Friday morning, based on the experiences of my friends, I will have a full blown cold.

But I can’t stop December 25 from coming and I won’t “wait until next year!”  Sick or not, I will fulfill my holiday obligations so that we can all enjoy nice meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Food has always been my forte, and I always plan on making the feast memorable!

My eyes are watering as I write this, so I know that it’s going to be tough sledding from here on through the weekend.

But I’m determined that Christmas will be merry …even if it kills me!!!

Here's hoping that you keep your cold to yourself...and not make it the gift that keeps on giving!

Oh no Richard.  Chicken soup might help!  Hope you make it through the festivities and have a wonderful Christmas

Richard,

An early gift from the Grinch I guess. Amazing what doctors can do, except treat the common cold. Feel better.

Richard,

I suspect handing out new Better Homes and Gardens Metro Brokers signs in the rain.  Not to plug products, but go buy some Zycam nose swabs. And have yourself a Merry Little Christmas now!

Richard, Paddy is right. And not just any chicken soup. It will take you 20 minutes to make, and boy oh boy not only is it good but it always helps me! Oh, and lots of vitamin C.

We use chicken thighs because we like dark meat and they are just the right size. No real amounts here, so forgive me.

Boil a few chicken thighs (with the skin on) with a whole UNPEELED onion, a few stalks of celery, a few carrots, and parsley, salt and whatever else you like in your soup. Boil it ONLY until the chicken is done, tender and not overdone. During this time skim any crud off the top of the water. Remove everything from the stock, (I don't use a whole lot of water, I fill my largest saucepan, not a huge soup pot only because I want the stock to be chicken-y, LOL) My hubby doesn't like to adulterate his chicken soup, so he tosses all the other stuff out, only removing the skin and deboning the chicken, putting that back in the stock. We top off the soup with grated cucumber. That is his Russian style soup that takes only 20 minutes to make, and it works like a charm.

And Irene is right, the Zycam nose swabs help too! And kick the person who brought it into the office. Well, maybe not, but I would feel like it if I were you. That is why I only use my phone at the office, and have a can of Lysol spray at my desk!

Feel better my friend... please!

Dennis...

Lots of Purex and a hot stove will help ... I am crazy about kitchen sanitation anyway! Thanks for the comment.

Paddy...

Ah, that's it! I'll buy a chicken and make some tonight. Thanks, my friend!

Rich...

Thanks my friend! I will be fine.

Richard, Richard, Richard. Get off the computer and get some rest!!  For goodness sake, your admiring fans can wait. We would understand if you missed a day. The world would not come to an end, I assure you, though we may be off-kilter during our morning cuppa but that would only be temporary. The best thing you can do is REST. Yes, lie down. Sleep. Dream. And eat lots of that chicken soup, which we call Jewish penicillin LOL. Hope you feel better. -- Tanya in Montreal

Irene...

Thanks for the tip ... I'll give it a try! And brand names are fine, we're here to HELP! lol

Andrea...

You need to put your recipe in a post ... I have never tried the grated cucumber on top, that sounds great. Also, I use a whole chicken but the dark meat is so inexpensive and actually makes better stock.

Also, the more parsley the better. I think that it is a diuretic but an elderly dear friend of mine swears by it!

And I don't blame anyone at the office. I love them all and want to see them, and we all have our jobs to do! Thanks so much,

I hope you feel better quickly.  Maybe today and tomorrow will be the worst days and you'll be back to feeling better by Friday.

Richard, I have been sneezing and coughing for a week ... ever since we brought the big Christmas tree into our living room.  Last evening there was a teaser on TV about a Christmas tree news report at 10 pm, but no way could I stay up feeling so lousy.  So straight to the web.  Research has shown that rooms with live trees have as much as 10 times the normal number of mold spores.  Some years I have problems, and other years none.  Maybe it just depends on the tree and where it came from.

Hope you are feeling much better very soon.  Looks like you have some great help here on AR.

Richard:  I was turned on to a natural remedy this cold season.  I swear by it.  Take 1/2 tsp of baking soda and dissolve it in half a glass of water.  It will be likel drinking salty water, but it's totally bearable.  Do that every two hours for 48 hours, a minimum of 4-5 times per day.  It makes your body more akaline and viruses have a hard time living in akaline environments.

Oh, noooo! Poor Richard. I hope you feel better fast!

If you keep yourself busy concocting remedies and soups, the hours will fly by until Christmas! :)

Cheers,

Ok Richard...Take one from us Nortern guys...we know how to handle such tings!!!!

Whiskey!   2 ounces to 6 ounces of water.  Tablespoon of honey and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.  90 seconds in the microwave on HIGH>>>  NOW Drink.  YOuv should consume this in 15-20 min.

The first one will clear your sinuses!  The second one will loosen the congestion in your chest!

By the fourth one...You won't care if you have a cold or not!!!  Trust me!!!!

I seem to have some night time ailment. I go to bed and start coughing. When I wake up I'm congested and cough for a while. I have my coffee and I feel fine all day until I lay down again. Weird, but I can live with it. Andreas recipe sounds like just what the doctored order. Get some rest so you can cook up a storm on Christmas.

Hi Richard... For months now, I have been threatening anyone who sneezes or coughs in the office with a full head-to-toe Lysol spray down.  If people are feeling less than well, they need to stay OUT of the office.  Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Richard, I concur with the Zycam as a deterrent. I have found that it not only lessens the cold issues in the present, but I think I have had much milder colds since. Take care and get better quick.

Richard, it's Friday, and I truly hope you do not feel zapped by a nasty cold!  And yeah - chicken soup!  Not from a can either.  Maybe from the local deli if you don't feel like doing it from scratch.  I like a few matza balls thrown in, too!  Merry Christmas!
