Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

It's the day after Thanksgiving and I don't feel so good! Why do I do this year after year?

My head is spinning this morning!I had to drag myself out of bed this morning. I really don't feel so good, but I didn't do anything yesterday but eat ... a lot! Is it possible to get a hangover from over-eating?

Is it possible to eat too much turkey and dressing, too many mountains of mashed potatoes, or too many Brussels sprouts? It could have been the pie, either the pumpkin or pecan, or both. I probably shouldn't have eaten those two last pieces before I went to bed.

Maybe a dozen or so cups of coffee this morning will get me straightened out, because I have to get to the office and get some work done. One thing is for sure, though:

I won't be taking a lunch break today!

We all this way, the day after! Yes it is a hangover of sorts due to inundating our bodies with too much food in too short a period of time and often food we aren't used to eating. I don't know about you but it is extremely rare for me to indulge in such quantity and in foods like praline covered sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes with gravy, green bean casserole and more. The best cure is not  to stop eating but to give ourselves a break from too much and processed (let's face it, there is nothing natural in marshmallows that top sweet potatoes!) and go all natural, unprocessed for a couple of days.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Actually Richard, there really is a chemical in turkey that makes you tired and sluggish.  It is called L-Tryptophan.  This chemical helps your body produce seratonin which causes people to get drowsy anfall asleep.

Good morning Richard,

You mean you do not feel like fighting the Black day shoppers today? Or show 12 houses to a buyer client? Hummmm I could send over an apple pie it sounds like it might be the only thing you didn't try. What the heck it happens every year..you had fun and now after your coffee try a brisk walk and you will feel like new! Glad to hear you had a great Thanksgiving and here is for a fun and productive week-end!

Richard,

Food Hangover,  LOL,  going to use it as an excuse for not working today. :)

Richard:  I know what you mean.  I'm still stuffed and have a massive stomach ache to boot.  I wasn't feeling 100% yesterday, but paid that no attention.  I'm paying for that decision now.  Think I might go back to bed.

Richard, I know the feeling. Glad to hear you had a good Thanksgiving Holiday with a lot of good food. No Turkey sandwich today? Hope you're feeling better.

Hi Richard.  I don't think you can actually get a hangover from turkey.

Perhaps a couple cold ones while watching football???

Have a great weekend,

Ken

Meliisa...

I agree ... we eat healhty 90% of the time and when we don't, we do not consume so much. My guess is a sugar imbalance ... plus a lot of food in general. Thanks for the very thoughtful comment.

Barbara...

And I hope that you had a great day too. Thanks, as always!

J & A...

I don't think that we are the only ones! lol and thanks.

Tami...

Thanks for the info, but I was queasy as well as sleepy ... you know ... afraid to move or else!!! It was probably too much sugar. THX

Dorie...

Richard, I do think you can suffer something similar to hangover with overeating. With Thanksgiving there is alos the issue of eating such a variety of food at one time. We normally don't eat 8 to 18 different dishes in a day, much less at one meal. I think it just overwhelms your system. It will be better by tomorrow. And I am off to get another cup of coffee too.

Richard, what no second helpings of stuffing or mashed potatoes and gravy. Maybe the sluggishness is a repressed sense of guilt at now being able to enjoy a little more? Thanks for sharing.

I don't think I can even TALK about food anymore. My downfall was the pecan pie... I admit, I was jonesing for it in advance. And we had a Thanksgiving meal after church last Sunday too. So I had 2 Thanksgiving dinners, and just could not stay away from the pecan pie... which will take the next month to work off  >.<

Richard, I am thinking that you can get a hangover from eating too much and from the sounds of it that's what happened.

BTW, did you have lunch today?  Be truthful!!!!  ;-)

Richard,

You would think that after earning our maturity stripes, we would know better. Maybe next year...yeah, right.

A friend of mine described herself as having a huge food baby.  She said it was twins ; )  I'm feeling much better today after two turkey dinners on Thursday.  Glad you had a great day!

Richard, I always think with the turkey, it is excessive Tryptophan in our system. This year I ate EARLY with pies late and did fine.

I think everyone hates themselves the day after Thanksgiving, and yes, I believe you can have a food hangover.
