Although we have over a month left to go in 2009, the onset of the holidays gives one pause to reflect on the year past, both on the good things and the things that “might have been.”
I have experienced a lot of successes this year and a few failures. What started out as an ambitious and optimistic plunge into the new year was constantly assaulted by unforeseen outside forces beyond my control.
Every day has been a battle, and while I was able to prevail in many cases it was not without casualties. I have seen many friends give up the fight and head for greener pastures and regular paychecks.
During the next month I will assess all of the methods and tools that I have been using and decide if changes are needed. Success in this market demands adaptation, and I am always open-minded to new ideas.
I will also enjoy the season as I always have, with periods of joy interlaced with bittersweet sentimentality. And when the band finishes playing ‘Auld Lang Syne” I will no longer look back but will move ambitiously and optimistically into the new year!
Because I must, if I am to survive.

Hi Richard:
We are definitely on the same page!
Time to tweak our 2010 business plan and make some changes.
Richard, yes indeed, we need to tweak or fall by the wayside. This next month is such a wonderful, magical time that is perfect for reflection. And perfect time to implement new plans!
Love that photo!!!
The nice thing about a new year approaching. It gives us a chance to reflect, adapt, set new goals and move forward.
Gorgeous, contemplative photo Richard...goes perfectly with your thoughts and seems to reflect your feelings at this time. It's always good to approach reassessing our futures from a position of peace and contemplation versus angst and panic. Good luck to you through this process.

Toula...
Yes it is! Have a great Thanksgiving!
Andrea...
Although for me there is always an underlying sadness! But that's good for the soul. Happy Thanksgiving my friend!
Gary...
Yes it does. Have a great Turkey Day and don't eat too much!
Good morning Richard,
A pensive thoughtful post this morning. A good time for reflection, assessment and optimism!
Richard....December has always been the month when I make plans and set goals to reach for the next year....There are many adjustments needed this year and the best part of this new plan is that now I will have an Active Rain plan to structure....I need to focus more on improving the quality of my blogs....after reading yours, Richard, I feel so incompetent, at times....all I can do is continue to strive to improve and keep a keen eye on your posts!!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving, Richard.
Happy Thanksgiving Richard!
Loved this part in your post "And when the band finishes playing ‘Auld Lang Syne" I will no longer look back but will move ambitiously and optimistically into the new year! Because I must, if I am to survive."
That statement just sums it all up! We too are making changes, some that feel much larger than tweaks but we feel it will be a giant step into the future and that is what we have to do, if we are to survive!
Enjoyed this post Richard, thank you. BTW - that picture makes you feel God is speaking from the heavens, it is all well.
Richard, I need to come back to your post often for a reminder that "I willl no longer look back." I get in the bad habit of saying "if only I had" done something different then ... whatever. It's best, like you say, to make plans and move forward. Thanks for a great post and beautiful photo. Happy Thanksgiving.
Richard, so right you are about the casualties of this year, and the continued problems we will be facing next year. It is often said that only the strong survive, but to be strong today one must also be adaptable and open to new ideas. It's the right time of year to reflect and re-tool for 2010. Thanks for sharing.
Richard, although I have been lucky to be making a living in the real estate profession, I can't remember so many transactions going to the wayside over seemingly little issues. In the past these deals would have closed but this years a small snag spelled death of the sale. I can only hope things improve in 2010.
Richard: Nothing has been easy this year, that's for sure. But hey...a troubled transaction is better than no transaction at all. I'm in line for the fight in 2010.
I just have to say Richard that I'm happy to be here in the NOW and am looking forward a couple of months to see what the NEW year will bring!
Hi Richard, Time to review where we've been and make plans to move forward. I hope you enjoy a very Happy Thanksgiving!
There's little need in looking back my friend, what's done is done and once this year is in the books we can't change a thing.
Richard...we must look forward if we wnat to imporve and only look back to make sure we are improving!
Happy Thanksgiving, Richard. It is wise to reflect and see our success and failures - that's the only way to improve!
Richard,
It is good to look back towards the end of the year to see where we need to improve. It is a short glimpse and then we have to move forward.
Richard,
Once we hit Thanksgiving, it seems like we are on fast forward to the end of the year. Congratulation for your successes this year - many more in 2010. :)
Steve
Richard, It brings to mind adding a link to the Donna Summer song, I Will Survive. I truly believe you and I will, you have to BELIEVE to make it happen. All the best, Michelle
