The week of Thanksgiving is one of the most curious in American culture. It’s the only National Holiday that always falls on a Thursday, and so the entire week is controlled by the event.
Monday is the day for buttoning up loose ends at work, and for setting everything in place to allow a lot of free time for the remainder of the week.
Tuesday is grocery shopping day, because you don’t want to wait until all of the good stuff is gone. This is day that menus are finalized and houses are cleaned in anticipation of company!
Wednesday is the “day before Thanksgiving,” which involves either traveling or picking up guests. It also includes several trips to the market for forgotten or last-minute items.
Thursday is self-explanatory, a great day of thankfulness and fellowship.
Friday is “Black Friday.” Did you know that it is called Black Friday because it’s typically the first day of the year that retailer’s bottom lines go from being in red ink to black? So if your one of the millions out there at 4:00 A.M. on Friday, thanks your contribution to the economy!
So there’s the Thanksgiving work week in a nutshell. If you’re going to get some work then you need to get it done today. Of course it is Monday, so have a second cup and relax.
After all, it’s the holidays!

Richard,
I do believe you have a good order of events outlined for this week of Thanksgiving. I'm getting a contract receipted on an offer that came in on one of my listings and I plan to get other business issues resolved today. I love the picture of the church with the steeple. It looks like the church I grew up attending in upstate N.Y.
Now if I could only make it two trips to the market...but it hasn't happened yet! I'm usually there late Wednesday for the stuff I didn't get on the first two trips! Happy Thanksgiving Richard!
Richard -
Actually this is a great weekEND for selling a house...especailly this tax-credit year.,
Richard, My schedule will be pretty close to the one you laid out, but will have to work right through Wednesday and Start cooking Tuesday, so my over-lap will be the tough part.
Amen Richard. You have summed up the week quite nicely. I will not be one of those brave souls that head out for the BIG sales on Friday. I prefer to avoid that kind of frenzied madness. Hope you have a great week!
Richard, Richard. You forgot the most important tasks for this week. . . .
the cooking and the eating.
Dorie...
Thanks ... I had an offer accepted on a listing over the weekend so ... so far so good!
Laura...
I always cook for 20, and we usually have 4! But I keep adding to the meu and it's a lot of fun preparing the "feast!" Thanks and the same to you!
Jim...
We have seen a LOT of activity ... things are looking up! THX
Richard....I usually do all of the cooking and have everyone at my house....this is the first year that my daughter is having thanksgiving at her house.....I'm excited.....now I can relax and enjoy my grandchildren that day....of course, I will cook desserts on wed.
My friend you have just helped me make the decision that we all need to make...........I gonna work from home today!!
Well some of us will I am sure of it.
Richard, LOL, cook for 20 and usually have 4, that was always my problem! I am not cooking, this will be my second year of not cooking, it was very difficult last year UNTIL I sat down after dinner, didn't have to do a THING! My daughter and her boyfriend wouldn't even allow me to do the dishes. How sad is that.. NOT! Black Friday looks like a trip to Rhode Island to visit a friend who is visiting her daughter for the holiday!
And thrown in there is a bit of football..conversation...napping...and just plain old rest...enjoy all!
Richard, this sounds like a good plan for the week. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Richard,
This is the first year we're eating at one of the kid's houses. What the heck am I going to do for leftovers on Friday?
Rich
Richard I, leftovers are easy: (1) complement the chef then (2) ask for freezer bags because you just have to have more to enjoy later - it's that good (LOL). ;-)
Hi Richard, Thanks for the list -- having it will help me get better organized this week - although we are traveling to my Mom's for Thanksgiving Day, so I guess I can relax today and just go to my closing this afternoon:-) Happy Thanksgiving Richard!
Thank you for organizing my week for me Richard! I will be working 1/2 days this week and pick it back up to full time next week! Happy Thanksgiving!
Richard: Since I'm not cooking this week, and will be celebrating locally, I think I'll full advantage of that 3 day work week. Supposed to get final short sale approval on a condo Wednesday. Wouldn't miss that for the world.
For us, Saturday is shopping day because you have to start thawing the turkey- we get a BIG one. Sunday is normal, Monday and half of Tuesday are to get stuff finished at the office. Tuesady afternoon is to clean house. Wednesday is all cooking.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Black Friday..also known as 'the ladies are gone shopping' day. YEA!!!!!!!
Us guys will be doing what we want without being asked 'why are you doing that?!"
Everything was straightened out today so that I can remain on cruise control for the rest of the week. I will likely not participate in Black Friday though, I don't like watching people box over televisions as much as I like watching them box on television.
Steve...
Well we gotta make hay while the sun shines. Thanks my friend!
Paddy...
Since my wife works at a departments store, I let her do the shopping since she's already there! Thanks for the comment.
Lenn...
Oh, I thought I used the word "Self-explanatory!" lol and thanks.
Hi Richard, I'm taking advantage of the 3 days this week but will be working Friday. I do NOT do black Fridays. Around here, it's not safe and I'm not kidding :) That church looks like the one we have here just a few miles away. I love older buildings :)
Normally I work until Thanksgiving day, but this year Amanda's parents are coming in from Ohio. The schedule is pretty close to what you mentioned. We are hitting Publix later today.
Richard-Thanks for sharing a great plan for the week!
Richard, I blew it. I left my shopping until tomorrow and now I'm going to be fighting the crowds. I love your pictures. Do you take all of these? If so, I don't know when you find the time to do business. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
