Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

A view from a different perspective … or how first impressions can be misleading

A view from a different perspectiveDon’t get me wrong. First impressions are very important. We all have a tendency to draw a conclusion within a few seconds of a first encounter.

So it is very important to get off to a good start. But that does not eliminate the need to look a little closer and get all of the facts before jumping to a conclusion.

And it doesn’t make any difference at all whether we are talking about meeting new people, buying real estate or eating a fine meal. The first impression will only last as long as it is supported by the deeper reality!

First impressions should be enticements but not cover-ups!  Because once the appetite is whetted, anything less than expected will be a disappointment!

Note: What does the photo have to do with this post? This photo was taken from the outside of an old building looking in. Since the roof collapsed, nature has taken over the inside of the old warehouse.

Richard, how true. If you put up a facade, either in yourself, or with a home, it will all come tumbling down at the end!

Excellent point. The first impression will get you in the door (real estate) or a first date but then what is real will begin to show itself quickly.

Hi Richard:

You are SO right!

We sometimes needs to take a second look and not allow our regular first impression conclude our judgment.

I like the notation about the building...very relevant to your post!

Richard -

My first impression was that this would be a good post.  So, I read it, and my first impression turned out to be right. : )

Richard....cream rises to the top, but if it's skim milk, it will soon be known.

You are so right...First Impressions are important, but it is just as important to always be yourself, otherwise the real you will be found out eventually.  And we need to always remember to keep our minds open and like Toula said, "Take a second look".  Your photo is a perfect example.

We only get one chance to make a first impression ... it behooves us to make it a good one ... an HONEST one.

Richard,

The picture matches the post perfectly and thanks for the explanation because I was thinking that it was a picture looking out of a window.

Have a GREAT day my friend.

Richard,

Being yourself is the only way to be successful, authenticity shines through, insincere flattery loses its luster very quickly.

First impressions will get you started, but it's after that that thngs can get much harder.  Living up to an image in someone else's mind can be very difficult!

Amy...

It is always interesting to see MLS photos that make a property look like a palace ... but in reality it's not all that! Thanks for the comment.

Jackie...

First impression is one thing, but hiding bad stuff is another. Thanks for jumping in.

Dorie...

Yes it will. Thanks my friend!

You are right.  First impressions are just the beginning.

Posted by Rosina Woolston (RE/MAX at Jennersville) over 2 years ago

Ah, first impresseions!  I think it's crucial that a seller make a great one and that the buyer try to ignor them.  So often getting beyond a bad first impression will get you a wonderful place.

Richard:  Like that you added an explanation of the photo here.  As for first impressions, they are critically important in just about all aspects of our business.  In fact, I can't think of any encounter (with fellow agents, prospects, clients, etc) where a first impression doesn't matter.

Richard:  First impressions are very important, that's true enough.  But so is not judging a book by it's cover.  The main thing is to be yourself and honest and then there's nothing to worry about.  True colors always come out sooner or later.

First impressions are always so important, but we must not be too hasty when meeting someone for the first time. I have met several people that the first impression was not so great, but when I meet them again things went well.

Richard, This is so true...will only last as long as it is supported by the deeper reality...

And it doesn't seem to matter if that deeper reality shows up a few seconds later (as in food) or a month later (as in a developing relationship). It's important to be able to put your finger out "what you are all about" , and if you pull together a good lasting first impression, you will do great!
