Coweta Fayette Real Estate & Newnan Homes for sale blog by Richard Weisser of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

Be careful what you wish for ... or ... everything goes in cycles!

Building storms in Newnan GeorgiaIt's early Sunday morning so I had a little trouble deciding on the title for this post, but it doesn't really matter, as the principle subject matter still applies.

For the last two years, Newnan, and the rest of Georgia have been caught in the throes of a severe drought. Wells were drying up, the area lakes were mud holes, and crisis-level water use restrictions have been in force in all municipalities.

At one point, the city of Atlanta was down to a thirty day supply of water. How frightening to think of over a million households running out of water. Water became the subject of lawsuits and litigation, as jurisdictions fought over the right to use water.

Water at Starr's MillBut everything in life is cyclical. We prayed for rain, and our prayers were answered. After years of drought, thee downpours were at first a welcome relief. Our water table is rising, and the lakes are filling up again! And we haven't seen the sun in a long time!

It seems that in rains every day now. That's fine if you live in Seattle, but in Newnan Georgia, you expect to see the sunshine every once in a while. After all, this is supposed to be the sunny south. Sun deprivation is leading to depression.

And in the grand scheme of things, I guess that too much rain is somewhat better than no rain at all. Up to a point.

Now, where did I put those plans for that ark?

Good morning Richard, well, I know how worried my dad is about the lack of water there. Rain is good, even if it means no sun for a while. Glad the drought is easing up, that is a good thing. No sun, well, I can send you pictures!

Have a wonderful day, and yes, be very careful what you wish for, but this was a good wish.

Lake Murray is at full pool and local ponds are full. I love it and I'm so relieved for all. Farmers were having irrigation problems and we couldn't water our lawns. Rain is a great thing even on a holdiday weekend.

I hear from my son up in Chattanooga about twice a week and he is saying the samething.  I am glad that you are getting rain but it would be nice for a brief lull so you can at least mow the lawn :-))

Have a GREAT weekend sir.

Richard, we are going through the same here in Florida.  The rains are welcome, but it would be nice to see a little sun every now and then.

Richard - I am enjoying it, although not the additional humidity, more bugs and increased lawn mowing. Hmmm, maybe I am not enjoying it as much as I thought.

Hickory North Carolina was also in a drought situation for the past two years and we are experiencing the constant rains that you are in Georgia. My wife and kids are tired of the rain but I love that I have a green lawn again.

Have a great Sunday.

Good morning Richard! What a great post and way to think of things. Everything, including the real estate market, is cyclical!!! Hope your rain slows down soon!

I'll take the rain anyday.....I remember my first time I lived in Atlanta years ago...we had a summer where it was beautiful and sunny from 6pm on Sunday to 4pm on Friday...and then it poured every, I mean EVERY weekend for the summer. Could of not been planned better if you tried!

I unloaded and spread mulch in the rain yesterday....Green is so much better than yellow when it comes to outdoor colors!

Richard,

So right about the cycle. I noted the same thing here in Florida. The sun is actually out this morning althought it doesn't look like its committed to the whole day. :)

Richard, we've been fortunate that it has only been raining during the night in the last week or so. It's starting to warm up and the sun was out yesterday. We were also in a drought last year. Nature has a way of making things right again. Have a good holiday weekend.

HI RIchard, Im glad ya'll got some rain, I know how desperate everyone was about to get... rain is good, its a blessing.. until you can't go outside and enjoy it... and the mud is everywhere... well as you said, everything cycles.  Rain rain don't go away, just go take a rest and let me outside to enjoy it all.  (we had rain all day yesterday too, but wow is the bluesky shining this morning).

Richard, rain in Seattle?  What are you talking about?:)  I think stories like your city is going to get more common in the future.

I know what your saying. We prayed for rain and now we have webbed feet.

You are correct about the cycles Richard.

It's sort of the Goldilocks weather cycle.  It's always either too big, or too small.  If it's just right, we barely notice.

We lived in the Atlanta area from 2000-2004 and there was always a water shortage...I just assumed "drought" was a permanent condition!  LOL  Glad to hear you are finally getting wet.

Texas Hill Country reporting in...we too, are having a serious drought!  I live at Canyon Lake and as I sit here on Memorial Day weekend the lake is sadly low and only 3 of our 22 boat ramps are open currently.  The rivers are running low and there are trees sticking up out of the water that we have never seen in our 18 years at the lake.  We get little teaser showers...but nothing substantial.  I have survived three 100 year devastating floods here and I am very careful what I ask for....we need rain...but we don't need to make the headlines on CNN!!! :o)))  Glad you all are getting some relief in your neck of the woods!
