As spring wanes and summer firms its grasp, the fragile early blossoms slowly give way to the more durable summer blooms.
Some of the most interesting summer garden species of flowers are the Water Lilies or Nympheas. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors and they are the perfect addition to any water feature.
Water Lilies also contribute to an ecosystem that is conducive to coexistence with reptiles, amphibians and fish. They provide cover, a food source, and help maintain a healthy balance of gases, alga and minerals in the water.
But my favorite thing about Water Lilies is that they translate beautifully to photographs. Just as Claude Monet became obsessed with trying to capture the beauty and grace of the Nympheas on canvas.
Unlike Monet and his oils, I like to try and capture the exquisite beauty of Water Lilies through the lens of my camera.
And like Monet, I will continue to attempt to define these magnificent plants in the two dimensional plane!
After all, it;'s a worthy subject for any artist!

Richard: A rare moment to be the first one in to comment. Right place at the right time I suppose. Absolutely lovely photographs. Have a great holiday weekend!
Richard,
Quite beautiful. Don't let that artist thing go to your head and cut off an ear or anytrhing. :)
Steve
I love water lilies! You have done a wonderful job of capturing their beauty.
Hi Richard~ Here you go again with your fantastic photography! Beautiful water lillies. Thanks for sharing!
OMgoodness....what a beautiful array of water lilly pics....check this out...I didn't know there were pink flowers lol.
Very nice. Any frogs in that pond?
What an absolutely stunning presentation of prose and photography! This is a treasure, Richard, a bouquet of beautiful words and images that reflect beauty and summery still life...what refreshment...thank you!
Richard,
Can't "force" myself to embarrass you with another compliment this week. Besides, I'm speechless!
Chris Ann...
Well, I just guess that today is your lucky day! lol and thanks!
Steve...
Well, I am a little bit ... you know ... crazy! lol, have a great weekend my friend.
Dana...
I do these "theme" photo essays every once in a while. They look nice on my outside blog! THX
Richard, Your shots are absoulutely gorgeous! The big lily pads in your first picture look like you could actually lay on them in the warm sun with a cool drink in your hand, sunglasses on, clouds passing slowly by... oh! Anyway, thank you so much for sharing!
Vickie...
I actually use the photos as a crutch sometimes ... when it's hard for me to think of something. Thanks so much for the nice comment!
Sally...
And white, and lavender, and purple .... no wonder Monet spent years looking at them! Aloha my friend!
Kenneth...
Yeas, as a matter of fact there are! Thanks.
Mara...
Aw shucks ... but I did strain on creating this post. I looked though a lot of photos before I decided on the Water Lilies. Then I had to resize and "brand" them for the post, and then write some words to go with them. I'm really glad that you liked the result, thanks for the nice comment.
Irene...
I wasn't really expecting many comments on this post. I am awed by the response, you guys are great! Thanks so much.
Wanda...
I was indeed tempted to try to walk across them, but I restrained myself. Thanks for the comment!
They are beautiful -- thanks for posting -- have a good weekend.
Richard, how wonderful. We used to have a pond full of the most beautiful pink water lilies. I love them. Then there is always the pods in the winter.
Thank you!
Hi Richard ~ Absolutely great photographs. I've loved water lilies and lily pads in particular since I was a kid so particularly enjoy these.
Liz
Absolutely beautiful Richard. I always know you will have some gorgeous photos that are real eyecandy. :) Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
BTW, do you use Picassa to watermark your photos before publishing them?
What magnificant photos! I check your blogs every day and am just amazed at your photography! Thanks!
Mary
B&C...
And the same to you! Thanks for the kind words.
Andrea...
They are mesmerizing, aren't they! Thanks, I'll see you in the Rain this weekend!
Liz...
There is a bit of fantasy and whimsy with them, isn't there? THX
Richard,
Well you have succeeded in capturing the exquisite beauty of the Lilly's. Truly an artist. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Richard:
Great shots of the water lilies.
Just beautiful....each photo is stunning!
I forgot to do a Wordless Wednesday this week =( I just started participating and I really enjoy it! I should have known I would. I always LOVE everyone else's photos. And these are no exception! =D
I think all that photo is missing is a little frog sitting there.

Beautiful, as always Richard. But you better watch who you are calling a Nympheas! xxoo
Gail...
I use Photoshop Elements 7.0. As a matter of fact, I just purchased the latest version last month. It does everything I need and only cost me $70 for the full version. Thanks for asking.
Mary...
I appreciate that very much ... I'm glad that you like the photos!
Dorie...
Thanks for the king words ... that's what keeps me going!
As always sir you have out done yourself. You definitely set a high bar for others to reach for. Very nice subject my friend.
re your comment...that's exactly how the professional writing process works---the sometimes strain, editing, reworking, etc... and then, voila! It's suppose to appear that it just "flowed"...so this is a perfect illustration of a writer's wonderful WORK... Sometimes bloggers say they don't know how to write, but maybe they just don't understand how to work. I think it's like swimming...but you can't swim if you don't get into the water...lovely lily pads!
Beautiful photos of the lillies Richard. One of my favorite flowers/plants. We had beautiful lillies in Hawaii, and I loved the night bloomers. Have a great weekend.
they look so perfect they don't look real! wow! :-)
Richard...we have about 3 weeks before the water lillies will be in bloom to show their heads for a shot or two!
