Coweta County Georgia still has some rural areas. I like to drive the country roads in the early evening with the top down and the wind in what's left of my graying hair.
One of my favorite spots has always been this tree-lined country lane. I have tried many times to capture it in a photo, but the light was never quite right and I have never been satisfied with the results.
But the photos I have in stock are now going to have to suffice, because when I returned to this spot this evening all of the beautiful trees had been cut down to the ground.
Nothing remains but the stumps and a few piles of debris in a field. I don't know if the county came and cleared the right-of-way or if the adjacent property owner cut them down.
It doesn't matter who is responsible, they are gone for good. But there is a lesson to be learned. Never assume the photo you ignore today will be there tomorrow for the taking. If you see a shot worth shooting, grab it!
Because you never know if you'll have the chance again!

Great advice Richard. What a shame about the trees. We have area of homeowners losing trees to the gas company from a pipeline they have to expand. Lots of unhappy homeowners.
That is so sad. Glad you at least got the pictures I suppose. Could have been 50, 100+ years old ... hey at least they could salvage the wood! :)
Richard, Progress does have a cost but what a waste of a natural resource. Captured in pixels for now will have to suffice. Rich
Barb...
And lots of unhappy trees too. I love them, and I really hate to lose them. We had a windstorm when we first moved here and lost 30. It takes SO long to replace them! THX
Steve...
My guess is that the roots were ruining the road (it's pretty bumpy) but it was such a pretty spot before they cut the trees! Thanks for stopping by!
Richard... at least you had this photo. It's a good lesson in grabbing the ring when it's available. You may never get another chance.
How sad that those trees were chopped - they look lovely -- it took many years to grow them.
What a sad sight that must have been Richard. I absolutely love driving through the shady tunnel of a tree lined avenue.
Such a shame some are just left with stumps and are gone for ever.
I also take your message as one of living in the moment, tomorrow is gone, and who knows what tomorrow will bring, so enjoy the 'now' and everything around you...
Cheers brother Richard !
Sheldon
wow ~ that is very sad! I feel for the homeowners. I bet the city is widening the road. I love how Sheldon wrote:"I absolutely love driving through the shady tunnel of a tree lined avenue." I could not have said it any better and yet I feel the same way about driving down a road lined with trees (see).
Lucky for you to have taken a few shots of one of your favorite places. Have a great week.
Wow ... so sad. I'm glad you have the photo, but it's heartbreaking that that is all that is left.
Richard: What a shame about the trees! As for why you were not satisified with this shot, I have no idea. I think it's great.
Hi Richard,
what a shame about those big, beautiful trees!
Thankfully you had that photo in your archives.
Richard, that sounds terrible, plus it takes so long to grow a tree. You mentioned get that photo now. I am that way with phone calls and emails to people. Do it now. NEVER wait. Great thought on your part and sorry once again for the tree story. Maybe you can find out what happened.
How sad. What a gorgeus place that was. Let's hope they come up with something pretty. I reminds me of that feeling that you can never go go home.
Rich...
I just hate losing one of my favorite places to drive! Thanks for the comment!
Sally...
You never know, do you? Thanks.
B & C...
It was sad for me, that's for sure! THX
Oh, goodness...I'm going to take bunches of pictures of tree lined street now...I love that picture and love seeing them.....I will have to preserve the images :)
Richard, that is very sad. There is a road like that here where the trees are like a cathedral ceiling over the road, very magical. I am going to make sure I get pictures of it.
Sorry you lost your special place.
Richard so true. I have experienced that myself several times...

This could be a great analogy to use with buyers clients too Richard. How many have returned to a house that has almost everything only to find it is no longer avialble because just a few things weren't right? I think the photo is beautiful. It says cool country lane to me. Have a great week.
Richard, It's sad that something so beautiful is gone. Glad you have this photo. This reminded me of one of my favorite songs - Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows.... look it up on Youtube.
They took all the trees, and put em in a tree museum
And they charged the people a dollar and a half to see them
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone
They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot
It's a beautiful day here today. So, I'm going to grab my camera and head-out to snap some good shots for future use. Thanks for the kick-in-the-pants.
I guess you never really know when anything will be gone for good. It does seem like a shame that those wonderful trees are now cut down, sorry to hear it.
So sad about the trees and unfortunately a sign of need, progress, people not being engaged to question the reasoning. In our area, trees are like gold and protected for the most part. They take pains to try to re-located even at great expense. You are right, in the moment you need to act as tomorrow may not bring the same results.
Richard I like you saying...much like mine. I have never seen a piece of DARK chocolate that I didn;t like! ;-)
What a bummer about those trees. I'm no "treehugger" but I have cried when my favorite trees have been cut down. When I was a child it was a pear tree I loved climbing and about a year ago, a beautiful tree that provided privacy for my condo and some wonderful birdwatching was cut down because its roots were damaging the underground pipes. :(
Richard: I think you photograph is quite nice. So sad about the trees.
Oh Richard! How sad to think someone cut down this beautiful vista! Why?? I'm glad you had some in your digital memory bank. xxoo
Great shot, great blog.
It's all about light. Shoot when the light is right or you will miss it all together.
It's a hard lesson, but it applies to so much more then just photography. Thank you for sharing it with us.
